I think Grier needs to win executive of the year soon. He took us from the 27th best prospect pool on a bottom tier tier that was in Cap he’ll to the best prospect pool in the league, with tons of cap room to take on assets and a young core that has top end talent and depth everywhere except RHD and GK(2025 draft). I think we finish bottom 5 but the games will be high scoring and the Shark Tank will be a fun place to go to! All hail GMMG

I will give Grier all the kudos I can! He has been soo much more calculated and planned than anything sharks fans have ever seen (sorry but not sorry Wilson and Lombardi). He has a plan, has convinced the upper management and Hasso to accept the rebuild, made hard decisions on fan favorites and repositioned the sharks well! His scouting and the scouting department has been well above average. you can argue he hasn’t gotten the best returns on those trades, but the trades have set us up better than I could have expected.
This off-season I like the adds and I understand the plan with D and In net (we still need another year drafting higher and 25 1st round is deep with talent) I fully expect a bottom 3 finish and drafting 3-5 range. (Can’t expect to win the draft lotto twice lol)
I expect Logan Hensler and Charlie Tretheway (both RD) to be heavily scouted by the sharks! I also expect with one of the sharks first 3 picks to look at getting a goalie. At that point the prospect pool will be strong at every position with ample cap space to add older vet placeholders to bridge gaps and give prospects time to develop.
In 2-3 years sharks are likely going to start fighting for playoff spots and in 4-5 years sharks likely will be in discussion as cup contenders !

@@robertevans00 I definitely think we finish bottom 5 but I also can see vegas finishing in the lottery slots too. Would love to get Hensler and another forward to bolster our top 6 depth.

It's possible other teams were a bit worried about the drop-off in his offensive production from the MHL (Russia's equivalent to the major-juniors in North America) to the KHL. He was almost exactly a point-a-game in the MHL, but only has 4 goals and a single assist in 39 career KHL games. His draft stock might have been significantly higher had he played for Dynamo St. Petersburg in the VHL (Dynamo Moscow's minor league affiliate), but I don't know the rules for call-ups from the MHL. Perhaps they're like North America's, and a major-junior player is only allowed to play in the top professional league.

Great breakdown. After drafting and not signing 2 goaltenders recently from the CHL (Beaupit and Gaudreau), the Sharks draft strategy for goalies seems like it’s focused on the NCAA and Russian route because of the bigger development windows.
Also, Pohlkamp is another defensive prospect Sharks fans should be excited about. RD, physical, violent slap shot. He’s transferring to Denver this year and could be paired with Buium.

I think Edstrom could be a great 3rd line center. Halttunin has a bomb of a shot and will probably be top 6 winger and PP specialist as long as he rounds out his game a bit more. Like others have said Polkamp is a sleeper.

    • @robertevans00

@@baysick11 Edstrom for me is a more offensively gifted Sturm and perfect 3rd/4th line C, if anything I expect Bystedt to swing out to wing.
Poolkamp really shunned in the prospect scrimmage and that has me excited!

Love me Cagnioni and getting a big solid Stay home RD to pair him with would be ideal!

Really hoping that Celebrini and Dickinson are as effective at rejuvinating a franchise as Mackinnon and Makar were for the Avalanche. If the Sharks remain at lottery level and get a high pick again next year who ends up being great, the team will really have a good leg to stand on going forward and hopefully speedrun their way back into the playoffs by the time their dead-cap contracts expire...

Sharks got a steal with Dickinson. Absolutely going to be a stud on D. Watch him regularly with my hometown Knight's and he's in my opinion the best defenceman in this year's draft. One more year in Jr with the Knight's and play for Canada at the world Jr tournament and he will make the jump to the Sharks the following season

What are your thoughts on Jack Thompson? Seems like no one talks about him when mentioning the prospect pool. He was in the AHL all-star game, but what is his potential for the NHL? Could he be a top 4 pairing? He shoots right so that helps avoid the abundance of LHD that the sharks have.

    • @SJallday13
      @SJallday13 Před 27 dny +2

I’m also curious to what the league and prospect watchers think of Jack.
Maybe he’s bottom pair RD, maybe middle pair.
Either way one more high end RD and I think the pool looks incredible at most skater positions.
Let everyone bloom and add a goalie when we’re knocking on the door of contention

  • @prosperfireson

    Hey Sebastion,
Thanks for the interesting dive into the Sharks cupboard which no longer looks like a bachelor pad cupboard! I have been a Sharks fan since their first play off appearance against the Red Wings back in the day and in all that time we have never really had much in the cupboard until now. In general building a team the old school way from within via draft and trade gives a team the potential to have the Avalanche/Red Wings effect where a very good team seems to keep popping out elite level talent every year.
Because once the pipeline is primed regardless of how well the NHL club is doing those prospects keep developing and when one is ready to make the leap to the NHL voila! A new prospect shows up to add to an already strong team. Think those great Sakic led Avalanche teams that then popped out players like Milan Hayduk (sp?) and other high end talents and Detroit after winning the cup retools their roster and along come all these great players led by Lidstrom and once again they are challenging for a cup with an array of European talents leading the charge.
This is what I am excited for when I look at the Sharks pipeline filling up from every league around the world. Yes, some prospects may fail of their potential but, others will not. Its like darts at a dartboard. If you take enough shots you will hit a bulls eye eventually. Think Yvgeny Nabokov (7th round pick) Joe Pavelski (7th round pick) and so on. With all those pipelines filling up from every league we are going to see some of those prospects you just detailed fulfill their potential. Remember Joe Sakic a first ballot hall of famer was the 15 over all pick his draft year! How many GMs' were kicking themselves that they passed on one of the best players of his era?
Thanks again Sebastion for doing this. Uh....at the risk of being offensive I have to tell you an unrelated story. When I was a kid in high school we had a dog of mixed parentage named Woody who was a trained frisbee dog at 100 lbs. Massively strong, fast enough to match 40 mph when my dad tried to outrun him in our car down the street and just a muscular physique.
Woody's arch nemesis on our street was a big golden retriever who lived across the streets named...yep ...Sebastion. All it took to get Woody furious was to just whisper: "Bastion" and Woody would run to our dinning room picture window that afforded a clear view across the street to see if his enemy was in his front yard! Hahaha Woody did not like Sebastion at all but, I am sure Woody would like you just fine so long as we didn't mention your name probably. hahaha Cheers!

The Sharks have had huge success with drafting European goalies in their early years. I wish they'd pull that rabbit out of their hat instead of trying to just fill in with stop-gaps and band-aids. My guess is they're gonna go RD in the next draft, if they can't pull of a FA signing or trade sooner than later.
