    Physics on Khan Academy: Physics is the study of the basic principles that govern the physical world around us. We'll start by looking at motion itself. Then, we'll learn about forces, momentum, energy, and other concepts in lots of different physical situations. To get the most out of physics, you'll need a solid understanding of algebra and a basic understanding of trigonometry.
    About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.

    @3:00 Is not instanteneous power similar to the uncertainty principle in quantum mechanic ? I mean, the smaller the distance, the less precise the speed is (because you can only measure the speed between these two points). But the smaller distance means you know precisely where the car is.

    I know the video says both weight lifters are doing the same amount of work but I think this might actually be impossible. If we are talking about the same mass and distance, then the the lifter with more power will be doing more work. Force is mass x acceleration and work is force x distance, so more work will be done by the power lifter since his acceleration is greater.

    • @thetaiman5351
      @thetaiman5351 Před 3 lety

      I too was confused about this, but work in the case of lifting something against gravity is the total amount of energy used, yes work involves force times distance, but we are not using the force of the hand, but the energy required to hold it against gravity. To hold something (in this case) is to oppose gravity, cancelling it out means to apply an equal and opposite force. If the weights are at the same height and weigh the same, then to hold them up is to apply the same force that gravity is acting on them.
      This is in sort of the same principle of how energy works, when you hold an object to a height, the potential energy of that object while it is resting there is the same amount of energy used to lift that object there in the first place. This is what the video started when saying the 2 people did the same amount of work, which just meant how it was transferring the same amount of energy from the person to the weights to achieve that potential energy at that same height. As he said in the video, work is equal to the amount of energy you give, or take away, in the case of the 2 people, they are both giving the same amount of energy to get that same gravitational potential energy.
      Since your question was asking about the amount of force that was used, then yes, the initial force would be different from the hand to the weights, more force would be required to lift/push something the same distance but at a faster rate than not. However, since we are just lifting it and then stopping at the top, the force you exerted, whether big or small, travelling fast or slow has to be cancelled out with gravity to stop it there, so you would have to apply an opposite force to the weights to decelerate it to the same force of gravity for both scenarios, the net forces are equivalent. That is why we don't find the force of the hand useful for Work (in this case), the only force required is gravity, any other forces that are used that accelerate it faster will just be cancelled out in the end, so it doesn't matter since we are just stopping it at the top. If we didn't stop it, then the weights with more force will travel further and in return have more work done to it.
