    Lentil pro-tip, pressure cooker. Then you can make even more with lentils, and cross over to the side of dal. Since getting a pressure cooker a year and a half ago, my consumption of lentils went from occasional to all the time. You can even make the best hummus in the world if you use dried chickpeas, soak them overnight, and then pressure cook them for 40 minutes with a natural release, freeze some of the cooking liquid into ice cubes and blend those into the hummus, it makes an absolutely insanely velvety smooth hummus that holds its shape, perhaps blender dependent, I have a Vitamix and it works great, others maybe not so much.

They ARE a legume so are good for you and while they don't require as long a cooking time as most dried beans, they are a good source of fiber. That sounds delicious. I just wrote another post about the Indian dish dal makhani, which I’m told shares some key ingredients with refried beans. To me, it almost seems like you could call it refried lentils because of the shared qualities between the two dishes.

    • @johnhpalmer6098
      @johnhpalmer6098 Před rokem

      yes, so does any other bean as they are a legume. You can reduce the fart issue by properly soaking most beans, not sure if needed with lentils, drain them off, use fresh water and then cook, with some taking several hours until done.
      while it won't eliminate the farting, but it'll reduce it by quite a bit.
      To soak, cover them with water, let sit covered overnight, drain, refill with fresh water and cook. OR, you can do the quick boil if you forgot to get them soaking the evening before you cook them and that is, cover them with water, bring to a boil, turn OFF the heat, put the lid on and let them sit in the hot water for an hour, drain, refill with fresh water and then cook.
