UPDATE 03.03.2023
Guys, I've had some inside information today and planning to drop another video on Monday or Tuesday with the full low down on everything I now know.
Make sure you subscribe and hit the bell icon to be notified when that one drops if you want to know the full details of what's coming on 09.09.2023
I think you summed it up in conclusion. Few outside of us watch geeks would even know of Blancpain, whereas Omega advertising is inescapable.
I love my moon swatch and cant wait for this collab!
I think Swatch is doing great with these collaborations. Awesome ! 👏🏽
Great vid, glad you’re feeling better now 👍🏻
I can’t see this reaching the same hype levels as the moonswatch - I’m also struggling to see what theme they can adopt to justify lots of different colours on this model (oceans maybe? Seems like a bit of a stretch though!)
Who knows, maybe it will be a single model with a metal case? Bring on the 9th!
Thanks buddy 🙏
If it's a FF homage it's going to need to have some level of water resistance so I'm wondering if it'll be based on the Swatch Scuba series somehow?
@@Escapement24 does it though? The swatch takes are a bit of fun and getting the look for a fraction of the price. (Although I’d love to see a moonswatch on the moon!)
Anyone looking for something to wear underwater wouldn’t be looking at a swatch when there’s so many better options out there. At the end of the day, these are fashion watches with a prestige model base inflating the price. 100m max I reckon (but I would love to be wrong!)
We'll soon find out!! 👍
Glad to have you back brother and looking forward to the new content. Also we will see what this new collab looks like and if it would be a hype watch like the moonswatch was for them.
Thanks man, it's been a while but I wasn't going to let COVID keep me down for long!! 💪
@@Escapement24 👏
Good to have you back Simon.
Few people indeed outside of the watch crowd are familiar with the Blancpain 50 Fathoms. A few 70 year old Jacques Cousteau fans, maybe ?
But, let’s face it, wasn’t it the same with the Speedmaster ?
Certainly, Omega is a much bigger and more visible brand than Blancpain, thanks to the James Bond franchise and the Olympics. And, yes, George Clooney. But it’s all about the SeaMaster line, Aquaterra and all that.
But who knows of a civilian having gone to an Omega AD and asked for a Speedy ? All this NASA missions to the Moon stuff that watch aficionados love to romanticize about happened 60 years ago and I doubt that fitting a co-axial escapement in a Speedmaster case got much coverage from mainstream media.
Despite all that, the MoonSwatch was a sales hit. Good for Swatch group. I wish them well with the Swatchy Fathoms. Maybe they will make enough dough to snatch Bucherer under the nose of Rolex 😂
Thanks buddy, it's good to be feeling better and I'm looking forward to catching up on some content creation!
I think Omega just has a lot more brand awareness than Blancpain - as you say, the wider world knows the brand through affiliations like Bond and the Olympics, whereas Blancpain is likely to be less widely recognised. Who knows, if this collab takes off then maybe Blancpain will become a household name?
Glad you're feeling better Simon. Great video-short and to the point!
Cheers Jason and hope you're doing well buddy
The MoonSwatch hype shouldn't be taken so seriously. You should see it as a game, like Pokémon Go. You go out and try your luck to find some rare Pokémon, or in Swatches case... MoonSwatches. It's about playing the game and levelling up until you have the final showdown with the endboss and win the game. Mission accomplished: you've managed to find stock! Like computer games, it sucks having to get stuck at a level and it might get frustrating. But not having to pay overs for grey market scalper goods feels quite rewarding. I've gotten the 3 pieces I wanted: Moon, Mercury & Mars at the retail boutiques (be it, with months of trial and error). Of course, not everyone wants to play along and it sucks that you have to.
Will be interesting to see how a diver and Blancpain hommage/collab would turn out!
That's one way to see it 🤣 Think it just reminded too much of the games involved in getting a Rolex...yet for a $250 plastic watch!
I'd happily buy a swatch 50 fathoms if it's a wearable size , that's what puts me off buying one. The only 38, 40 mm are limited additions that are way above my price limit .
Glad you’re on the mend Simon 👊🏻 Yeah as you alluded to, I don’t think many people … hardly any people that is would have ever heard the name Blancpain. I predict a huge flop
Thanks Mike, feeling much better now! We can only hope this one doesn't get as much attention from the flippers!
@@Escapement24 let’s hope for at least 5 meters water resistant 😉
🤣🤣🤣
Hope it’s a flop so I can get my hands on one or two…and hope the real thing doesn’t skyrocket either so I can get that too.
was thinking the same...actually own a 50 fathoms and maybe it may get some interest as they do not keep value
A Swatch diver collab? This could be brilliant if done right. Hopefully it will increase brand awareness of Blancpain and give old mate Rolex a bit of schtick.
Completely agree - I just hope they will do it right! Let's wait and see....
"Brilliant"
Thanks for the video. One short question; do you think Swatch will stop producing moonswatches anymore?
Thanks buddy, I don't think the Moonswatch production will stop this year as sales are still strong
@@Escapement24 Thanks for your comment. I was worried because I haven’t been able to get all the watches in the collection yet.
It is a Glashütte Original SeaQ Crown. That's why the article in the german newspaper.
🤔 It does look similar to the SeaQ crown but with fewer "notches" and I can see the logic about the German newspaper, but this morning I was shown a picture of a prototype of a Blancpain Bathyscaphe x Swatch concept presented to a handful of watch journalists last October, so that's now looking like the most likely candidate for next week's release. I can't share the picture but will be putting out a video with my own mock up of the Bathyscaphe in the next 48 hours.
Estimated retail price ????
My assumption would be in the £299/$350 region
I think Swatch's plastic ("bioceramic") case + quartz movement (Swatch ones are so loud) are turn-off factors for many watch people, but if Swatch can somehow eliminate at least one of these two factors, it might be able to capture more interest from the watch community. But then I guess these collabs are not meant for watch enthusiasts to begin with, but rather targeted towards the general public... we shall see! I'm excited about it regardless. Edit: spelling
There is a good chance that it won't be quartz but the Swatch Sistem51 automatic movement.
If you lost those 2 things it wouldn't be a swatch. I don't think this one is for you.
@@sortasapienI said “eliminating one of these two factors”. Also, Swatch makes a lot of non-plastic automatic watches too in case you didn’t know.
@Seongjinkim What does the metallic swatch cases have to do with you being idiot?
Here we go again! This is why I wear G Shock.
Happy that you're back and Healthy. Looking forward to seeing this ine. Think these releases are fun, as long as you don't take them too seriously.
Thanks Don! Yeah I'm curious to see this one but just hope they're more available and don't just mostly fall in to the hands of flippers like the Moonswatch did!
Being a quartz "homage" to the FF it may be around 40-42mm to encompass a wider audience. At least that's what I would do if building a cash grab😂
Fingers crossed that it is a fifty fathoms "homage" with the sistem51 movement and a steel case. This is the only way i can afford a blancpain😂.
You and me both!!
Another watch I can never get because it's only sold in swatch stores?
More than likely I'm afraid
Lets just pray it's not all bioceramic 😅
I think I've just lost all my interest in MoonSwatch and can't wait to see the BlancSwatch... (but will it still be plastic or something that you won't worry about wearing).?
I feel the same. No doubt it will be Bioceramic (read "plastic") as Swatch is using that in an increasing number of new models, though I hope they've learned some lessons from the Moonswatch and have made the crystal more durable.
If it's a dive style watch I'd like to think it will have at least a few metres of water resistance too!
Have a look at the crown of an Aquaterra..
Similar ..but too much knurling. The drawing on the advert only shows 8.
@@Escapement24 that’s true.. let’s see. If we have a 20 bar water resistant, sapphire crystal and automatic movement watch for less than 300 with a FF shape… I’m in.
You and me both!
FiddySwatch™️
Went to buy a moonswatch. Realised it was cheap and overpriced when shown it. Went to buy it anyway before realising they sold about 14 of them in the short time i was in store. Thought im just buying a hype here so left without purchasing
The quality of the Moonswatch was disappointing but from the information I now have it seems that Swatch Group has listened to feedback. Updated video dropping later today with full details.
Incredible how they want to destroy the best looking diver
Yeah, they already destroyed the Speedmaster! 😊
How would they destroy it by raising awareness to it whilst marketing and selling officials plastic replicas ?
WTF Blancpain?!?!! Are you out of your minds?!?!!!!!?!!!!!!!!!!11111111one
If the movement is not mechanical then it will flop like the moonswatch
Obvious troll post
The MoonSwatch was a resounding success !
It'll be hilarious if nobody bothers to buy one.
🤣🤣🤣
Blancpain….. Fifty Fathoms… if it is a shit quartz plastic watch…. It better be holding the fifty fathoms water resistance
Unlikely to have the FF water resistance that's for sure, but the latest info I have says it's not going to be quartz. Updated video to drop tomorrow with more details.
@@Escapement24 i really excited tho! Cause I really love the FF.
Another s*** plastic watch just because of the name
Can only hope the quality and sales strategy is better than the Moonswatch but not holding out too much hope
