  • I decided to go to one of the Biggest Festivals in Meghalaya, the Wangala 100 Drums Festival !!
After meeting the Chief Minister Conrad Kongkal Sangma at his Residence in Garo Hills we headed in his Convoy to the Festival Ground. Check out how unique the Festival is !!
The Wangala Festival is a harvest festival held in honour of Saljong, the Sun-god of fertility.
It is also known as the 100 Drums festival and is celebrated for two days in the west garo hills. The ceremony performed on the first day is known as "Ragula" and is performed inside the house of the chief. The second day is known as "Kakkat". People young and old dressed in their colourful costumes with feathered headgears dance to the tune of music played on long oval-shaped drums.
    Did you know?
The Garos are one of the few remaining matrilineal societies in the world. The individuals take their clan titles from their mothers rather than the father.
