    VBAC - vaginal birth after cesarean section
    TOLAC - trial of labor after cesarean section (if TOLAC ends in vaginal birth then you had a VBAC)
    -ACOG recommends VBAC as a safe choice for most women who have had a C-section in the past. Studies show 60% to 80% success rate for women who attempt VBAC (who have low-risk pregnancy).
    Who is a candidate for VBAC with a high rate of success and low risk for complications?
    -Low-transverse incision = horizontal incision on uterus (vertical on the uterus = “classical”)
    -2 C-Sections (no more)
    -On-board healthcare provider who will do a VBAC
    What increases your rate for success?
    -1 C-Section
    -Labor starts on its own
    -Proven pelvis (you have had a previous vaginal birth)
    -Age (under 40 years old)
    -Mom’s weight (BMI less than 30)
    -Size of baby
    What is the risk associated with VBAC?
    -Uterine Rupture
    -Contents spill into the abdomen *Be in the hospital!
    -Very small risk (less than 1 percent)
    -Risk for uterine rupture increases with 2 or more C-Sections
    -Mom may not successfully VBAC for other reasons other than uterine rupture
    How to VBAC Safe in faith?
    1. Make sense of your first birth and know that this birth is new and different
    -Learn about the previous C-Section (look at medical records and ask your healthcare provider that did the surgery)
    -Was C-Section because of an issue that is likely to happen again?
    -“Was the baby just not in the optimal position to help labor progress or was there a problem with my pelvis?”
    -You can give birth vaginally even if you have a “small” pelvis!
    -Is the incision on your uterus a low-transverse incision?
    2. Decide that you can VBAC
    -Mindset of peace, calmness, trust
    3. Find a supportive care provider if your current provider is not supportive
    -How do you feel about VBAC
    -How do you help me have VBAC
    -What is the percentage of VBAC that you attempt
    -What is your VBAC success rate
    -What is your induction rate
    -What is your c-section rate
    -What is the hospital’s VBAC rate and philosophy on VBAC
    4. Readiness
    -Birth plan
    -Childbirth class with an inspiring community
    -Continuous labor support
    -Supportive healthcare provider that educates you and works with you

    Does the incision matter for having vbac? Mine was vertical.

    • @pearently
      @pearently  Před 4 lety

      Yes, the incision on your uterus matters. The incision on your skin might be different. Request your health records or talk to the doctor that did the surgery to verify which incision you have on your uterus.

      Hi Shakeel. If your physician feels like a VBAC is safe for you then I would continue to discuss this with your doctor (getting ready for VBAC). Waiting for labor to start on its own is safe and recommended for most moms when attempting VBAC. I wish you the best on this journey!

    Do you know what the success rate is for VBAC after classical?

    • @pearently
      @pearently  Před 4 lety

      Hi Tamara. A classical incision means you have an inverted T shaped scar on your uterus (not just your belly). This is a contraindication to VBAC - meaning that it is not safe to attempt. You can request your medical records to verify this is the incision you have. There is no current study that I am aware of that gives a percentage to VBAC success rate with classical incision.

    How much scar thickness matters for VBAC even if a reasonable gap between two pragnancies. I conceived after 2 years of my 1st pragnancy. Now I am 36 weeks pragnant. But scar thickness that was measured on 35 weeks and 3 days was 2.1mm. Is it ok if I wait for natural pains till my due date? Pls reply.

    • @pearently
      @pearently  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi. The incision type matters most when considering VBAC. Scar tissue can cause problems, but this usually isn’t known until labor. VBAC is very safe for most women and is recommended by ACOG. It is safe to wait until labor starts on its own for most women (“natural pain”). Please talk to your doctor about your specific circumstances as this is not medical advice. Best wishes!
