Hey! I just bought mine and was wondering what chair are you using? And I have seen quite a few videos where people have to mod their chair to work, did you have to do this with yours?
@@Staracer Ok thanks for the fast reply! I tried to use the chair from my old static sim but the mounting brackets would not work so I will look into a NRG chair! Thanks again!
Fantastic! I have a couple of questions about your VR setup. Are you just using the lighthouses for tracking without the use of a Vive tracker? If so, do you notice any exaggerated motion due to the motion rig? I have a H6 on order and I have read differing opinions on this. Any info would be appreciated!
I find with the valve there is no need for motion compensation. The lighthouses are tracking me as they usually would from two corners of the room, yes.
Love the rig, how do you like it? Are you running the actuators in the 1st or second position (max or min articulation). Also how's the response, looks pretty instant from the video but do you notice any delay?
Jamie - I am about to pull the trigger on a P6; at the end of the day is there any reason you would not now buy it? I understand the general pluses and minuses. Also if you don’t mind, which NRG seat are you using? They seem to get mixed reviews. Thanks. Bruce
Nice system. How do you feel about rigidity of the wheel mount? As far as I know the worst part of DOF Reality setup is that the wheel stand has a bit too weak support and it moves relative to your seat if you push or pull the wheel - how do you feel that part and have you done any modifications for it? (They sell center support bar for the mount but that would have to say between your legs which is not optimal.)
I corrected that issue with my own design. Look on DOF REALITY Facebook here: facebook.com/groups/1858593921047822/permalink/2607624916144715/ I also run a different wheelbase now, the Simucube Ultimate.
@@SosaKinkos Excellent, so far. Haven't raced much since the summer but it still works as it did when new. Never did get the P6 upgrade maybe this year, we'll see. Don't think you'll be disappointed as it now come with the upgraded gearing and a better wheel mount plate.
@@naxalar have the drawbacks with some inverted forces at times and the low center of rotation ever really put you down? I’m a perfectionist, as I’ve read more and more, the surge on the p6 models seems to be the most important factor. Especially with the braking you see a lot of people’s head snap backwards, then forwards when braking. Whereas with surge, when you brake, it’s not only leaning down but also pulling back to push your body forward negating that initial inverted force you feel
I love the motion, but I feel it would be a better experience if your headset was in fix position in game, so as your getting moved around by the rig it's not throwing your head around the cockpit like you've got no seat belts on? I run Windows Mixed Reality for my VR and I always set it to a seated position, and I'm currently running a seat mover......... Body moves around outside the sim to simulate car moving around but in game I'm strapped into the race seat ........ Do you know what I mean?
Hey there, thanks for the video!!! Now I got a question, gets me perplex... on some videos, I saw on the same P6 system DAMPERS, here missing on your system. They would be 3 of 'em, each between motors up to chassis (I see your screws popping out where their head should be fixed). That pointed me out a second point: the rods of yours are more middle-base mounted instead of the more outer sides, not sure if it's clear what I'm point at..... Did they changed the system over time? TIA
Ya they did change. I did get the dampers and the mounts but found it too rigid and hard on the motors with the gas dampers. I did however leave the rods mounted toward the center. I have had no issues.
@@Staracer excellent, thanks for your fast and kind answer :-) Can't wait to get mine in a few month, I might post a video too, but there's quiet a lot around already :-) Again, many thanks, and have fun, stay healthy ;-) Cheers
Nice video! I have a P6 as well, but I’ve had issues with he front left wheel support bar hitting the front left motor. How is your clearance there? Also, I added the dampeners, but am thinking about removing them. Thanks again!
Great video. Did you upgrade from the P3, or go straight to the P6? Curious if you have a comparison to the 3. I'm running the H3 and love it, but the 6dof looks tempting. Just afraid to lose out on traction loss.
@@TedPeterson For home use the P6 has slightly bigger max movement range so it can simulate slightly bigger g forces. It has also beefier motors less vulnerable to overheating but I would guess that's not the limiting factor for home use.
Not so strange really...handbrake and pedals are Fanatec, wheelbase and shifter are Thrustmaster. All 4 other wheels are Thrustmaster....just got the Cube wheel in anticipation of my Simucube wheel base. I also just sold the Fanatec pedals and got my new Meca Cup 1 Pedals. I'll have a review on them soon. Sometimes it's better to get good pieces of each company's stuff. You end up with a better result more tailored for what YOU are looking for, not what the company wants you to buy as a package. Cheers!
Hey Jamie I am looking at this same unit but the H6 version, to save some money. Have you heard of any differences in use between the P6 and H6? I am really curious if the gear heads on the two are the same. I know the P6 has beefier motors.
Duty cycle is much higher on the H6 and the P6 actuators are larger. I'd save up a few more dollars to get the P series. Just my .02. I've had my P3 for about 1.5yr and haven't had any issues.
I think for home use the most important difference is that H6 has 17° max movement and P6 has 21° max movement. If the sims you use do not need lots of movement, you can go with H6. Considering that to get accurate movement for sim racing, where even basic sports cars can get 1g cornering and braking in real world, you would really want 50° max movement so I would assume every degree helps.
Sometimes I have to calibrate the arms on each motor but it's relatively easy. Maybe a few times a year. Checking nuts to make sure things are tight. That's about it. This is my old rig. Some parts are different now. I will post a new video soon.
Hi Jamie, I also bought a P6. I'm currently trying to mount the FANATAC V3 inverted pedals to the factory delivery plate of DOF. Could you give some hints how you attached it to your rig. Thnx. Koen (Belgium)
Mine never came with them. They were added after but I found that they actually were hard on the motors, so I immediately took them off. I like the way it performs without. Less stress, but that is just my opinion. Try it yourself as an experiment and decide.
Its many different parts. Just the DOF P6 is anywhere from a few thousand if you find it used, to around 8k (CAD). Check online, im not aure about current pricing.
I see you're right hander, try to use less force with right hand that'll balance the force automatically, I had the same trouble, you won't be left with pain in your right wrist at the end of it
They are too hard on the motors and they restrict the movement of the arms. Set up the sliders in SRS very carefully one at a time and you can get to a good place with the DOF 6 units.
Jamie Lizmore FYI-I talked to the owner of DOFReality after watching your video and he said you should be using the dampeners. Whatever works for you, though.
Awesome driving !! And a lovely little setup too..
Now, that's A HOT LAP! Amazing
Tidy lap mate! 😎 Love the ring
What I want to know is: If you crash, does it eject you from the seat and throw you across the room for more realism?
I would rather have a seat which flips over in real time, sideways, or lift off up backwards, like a Mercedes, all belts attached..
It does. This is his twin playing. The other one died
I like the dynamics of this platform. Not to much travel but quick.
This is the best VR video on youtube.
I subbed in hopes for more content. Nice Rig
