Thank you for the great review and contrasting these three hatchets. It looks like the Condor is the best “value” and the GB Wildlife is the best copping axe and the GB Outdoor is the best for splitting. That’s my interpretation on it on it anyway.

I have had the Wildlife Hatchet for quite some time now and I like it a lot for the smaller jobs. Thanks a lot for the comparison :)

Thanks so much for the review, as I've been considering this hatchet. It is apparent that the relatively thick convex blade profile does not work well with this relatively light axe head. I find this particularly important in these lighter weight hatchets. Without question it could be reprofiled, thus allowing it to work better as a small hand axe, but this would require several hours of work in my view - perhaps still worth it, if the steel quality is there. But, I've already got too many projects in the wings to add yet another. Thanks, nonetheless, for your review.

Thanks for the nice rewiev! As a Swede, owning a Gränsfors bruks wildlife hatchet and a Hultafors Hultån Hatchet I would definately try my gear with the Condor if I could buy it for 50$ or less. Similar axes cost 100$ in Sweden for the same type of axe. This seems like a good and well sorted out axe for that price and with a nice design so yeah, would try that out. Would check out how they forge their hatchets and axes though. If this is done well, then ya'll should buy these hatches straight up.

What irritates me is that there are too many GFB axes that are just not 100 percent in order.
Often when I order a GFB axe or hatchet, the edge is not completely in line with the centre line of the handle.
I know these are handforged, but come on.
I pay over €100 for a piece, so they better make sure it is worth it.

Take a file to the bevel on the Condor and thin it out. Not a huge deal, or a whole lot of effort.

I like my Condor. Good little hatchet. But the front of the head leans ever so slightly to the left. No way to correct it. Not a huge issue. Just a bit annoying though.

If you're willing to sharpen and put a file to the blade to reprofile the cheeks, a 19" Council Tool Hudson Bay axe will do far more than any of these - for $35. Buy one of their (Review Outdoor) sheaths for it and you have an excellent American made tool. Or buy the Velvicut and it comes with better steel, shaving sharp blade and slightly better wood, for Gransfors pricing.

      @Zinski1911 Před 7 lety

Greg Mi well yeah, it's a totally different type of axe. In other news, a velvicut Felling axe will take trees down better than any of these three...

The Gran costs more than twice the Condor, is it really twice as good at chores? I don’t mind paying for quality, however is it really THAT much better then the Condor, or say. A Husqvarna?

The correlation between quality and price rarely follows a linear progression. You usually pay more and more money for a smaller increase in quality the better the quality gets.

Gränsfors has made axes for over 100 years, they dont do anything else but axes and few sharpening stones for their axes, all other companies nowdays makes 200 other things beside what your buying from them. I rather pay my money onto something i know is made out of quaity and perfected to perfection rather than some cheap mass produced crap.
you also have a 20 year warranty with Gränsfors, that should say enough.
www.gransforsbruk.com/om-oss/foretagets-historia/ google translate to see history of gränsfors axes. enjoy!

Axes are quite cheap, a bit over a hundred for one of the best axes possible? It’s a steal compared to knives where you have better steels and crazy handles driving the prices to insane heights. You need to pay for gear with a 20 year warranty and old school making, that’s the world.

First, thank you for acknowledging God in what you do. As much as I live creation, it’s the creator that deserves too billing.
I’m a big fan of Condor products and wish I had the budget to buy “one of each!” Alas! 🤔 but, I’d like your opinion on the Condor camping hatchet. 14” long. 27 Oz, so substantially “meatier” than the baby Condor you got there. $75-90 makes it sill a value. I think it would compare favorably to the 14” HB. I think the HB still has the longer, thinner beak. Gives the “edge” (pun intended) for slicing and carving. But, I think the Condor’s stubbier blade geometry is better for splitting and baton-ing. My hatchet experience is sorely lacking. So, I’m extrapolating from my knowledge of knives and axes. (I do have an eastwing that refuses to take an edge and struggles with all but the warmest sticks of butter.) thanks!
