I bought it and I am very disapointed. I did almost nothing with it and there is now a rattle in the handle. The saw works well... for 2 minutes before being deformed. To be fair, it sharpens easily and the handle is comfortable.
Most Machetes are not razor sharp, just sharp. The weight of the blade and a fairly sharp blade will easily hack through vegatation. You don't need to be able to cut paper.
I completely agree. It is a lower quality machete but a paper cut test is completely irrelevant for any machete simply because that’s not what the tool is used for. In my opinion this is a pretty bad review overall there’s much better reviews for this machete. I’ve put a good amount of use in it and it dose work, for machete task that is. granted there’s better ones out there but if your just looking for a machete with relatively decent quality this isn’t a terrible option. It'll hack through bone and not break. Machetes are not meant to cut anything thicker than vegetation. Everyone who buys this machete bitches about how it breaks but that's their fault. You wouldn't buy a sedan and then go driver in hills, mud, desert so why are you trying to use a machete to chop wood.
I noticed the rivets holding the sheath together grind and dull the curve of the blade from the inside, this is really freaking annoying as i like to keep my blades razor sharp, usually using a 2000-3000 fine whetstone to maintain them. Seeing as the machete is cheap as soap you'd still think gerber would hold higher quality standards even in their less expensive products. The only good thing i found about this knife is the handle, otherwise it loses in every aspect to all the other blades i have.

right,probebly fine for that task but for my needs a machete has to be able to chop large pieces of wood,as well as other tasks as i really dont care much for axes. @@deere3321

I have one. Definitely a good blade for the price. u need a sharpening stone for it tho because carbon steel blade can get nicks. Good Review M8!
even my 15 bucks cheap machete with 420 steel blade stays sharp much longer without any deformations. the Gator is worth nothing because it's junk^^

Can't expect much more for $20. It does the job for me at clearing brush. I beat the hell out of it for 2 years. Now it's time for a new one.
