regarding shield comparison section, the reason thoma's a bit higher is because it's max stacks, but in reality it rarely reaches max because shield immediately breaks while stacking. Not to mention that you need his burst for it which is very bad. So realistically speaking, layla's shield is stronger

@@itsmertbitch5790 ER/HP/HP is the optimal build for him, not full HP so that makes the shield fragile from the start of stacking, if you're replacing ER on sands with HP then you can't get his burst back immediately cuz his burst costs 80 just for a fkin shield that you still need to stack, that's why he's shielding is worse cuz you really need high amount of both HP and ER on the substats which already sucks cuz it's RNG
@@ravenaloro1767 you can always get ER on your substats or have an ER weapon. I use favonius with him and have no problems with energy at all, and neither the shield breaks, his output its pretty much 100%. You only need to be mindful of the timer of your skills (maybe the constellations are helping too.)
And the fact her shield duration is equal to cd its top all other 4 star char shields, and u just tap no time wasted like hold for diona
@@kidesohjo9637 I had previously attempted to replace black tassels with fav, so I replaced ER sands with HP. It's even more difficult for me now that I need to get crit rate on the substats. It's a bit harder on the rotations too; if the passive didn't proc while doing E-Q, then I need to do normals to proc it, but if I use ER sands instead of HP, then it's easier; however, that leads to a weaker shield that may break while stacking. The point is, there's too much to think about just for a shield. That's why, even if on paper it's the second-strongest, in reality (or at least in my experience) it's really not. But now at least I'm glad that I can use him on burgeon teams and not rely on his shield anymore

I have C1 Layla myself, and I'm planning to make her ~the next Zhongli~ or at least, a 4* co-op friendly Zhongli. Farming will be a pain seeing as the domain's 2nd artefact can't benefit on a lot of characters according to my playstyle, but I know it'll be worth it in the end!

I'm so glad this character is actually quite valuable in combat (unlike the last couple 4-stars that were released) because I really liked what we saw of her personality in the event quest and was looking forward to rolling for her. 😊 That said my Layla is now C4 and I'm building a HP/Cryo/Crit Millilith set on her!
I don't really think "niche" is the right word. It seems like it's being thrown around by all the CCs right now, but practically no one is running her in the same teams. It's happened, we got a 4 star that's a good option for A LOT of teams. I don't think we should undersell that. Hoyo did a thing we wanted them to do. Triple HP tenacity is enough shield for any non-corrosion content, she's got consistent cryo application, and can buff your team. Scaling on HP also makes her great for teams with hydro resonance. Put her with Xinqui and Yelan, and your flex is your driver - that's kind of insane.
I've been doing yoi, xq, yelan, layla, and yoi actually mixes in melts now and then in this comp. because of how much hydro there is going around and with the occasional cryo, there's some freezes happening now and then.
I kinda wanna try swapping out one of xq/yelan for candace and seeing if that works out because it maintains the hydro resonance while also adding in buffing yoi's normal attacks
I think that they say niche instead of saying she's just weak so they don't get too many hate comments
@@thebrigade7684 She's not weak though. She's got a lot of value, and you can see that by the variety of comps people are already using her in for her build guides and reviews. We actually got a four star that's good and versatile on their launch. It's been a while. It shows promise going forward.

I think Hoyo could still show their 4 stars more love. I decided when Layla was leaked I would pull for her and try her with my Yoimiya team, which allowed me to replace Zhong Li and get Yun Jin's full buff.
I think she works well in this comp and will only get better with constellations. I just wish that her damage scaled better with a pure HP build.
seems like hoyoverse refrain themselves from creating 4 star with pure HP build and reserved it for 5 star like yelan/kokomi/nilou moreover with hydro rework now giving 25% bonus HP

I’ve been loving Layla in my Nahida, Miko and Kokomi team. Her design and animations are so satisfying. Also love that her shield is instantly cast, compared to Zhongli and Diona.

Now with scara/wanderer, Layla is one of the good options as she provide 20% crit rate for scara + preventing interuptions (I run Wanderer-faruzan-bennett-layla) or just get mika and thoma to replace the last two place for similar effect

I want to mention in most playstyles you skill/burst and swap. Meaning that weapons like sac or favonius will only proc only when the character is on field. So favonius is only good as a er stat stick since to even get the white particles she has to be on field and crit. Imo her best 4 star is festering desire. It also has er as a stat and gives extra skill damage/crit rate

fav is so broken in terms of particle generation that it's worth doing a normal attack to proc the passive
--- also u can burst first before skill so that cryo rain starts before u swap

Finally a solid 4*. What a relief. I benched Diona long ago, I don't expect finding any serious role for her. Meanwhile, I still see a role for Layla, like running cryo against bosses. Also - why not more emphasis on her c4 - buff for NA and... CA! That's first in the game CA buffer! Layla is a really nice 4*.

one thing to remember on the shield strenght graph in terms of both diona and thoma...layla is the only one among them that can keep it up consistently
diona needs a few seconds of downtime
and thoma im pretty sure can only do so during his burst
dont remember if he can 100% keep his burst up but if he cant she is the only one of them with consistent shielding like zhongli
i think that alone makes her the best shielder below zhong if the shield is what you want and dont have him

Finally got her after getting so many 4 star weapons, but I'm glad. She's seriously made my Ayaka team OP, she's C0 and still lvl 60.
The fact that it took me until her second boost re-run for me to get her gives me even more reason to build her. She's such a comfort character, honestly, and her idles are so pretty.
layla and heizou are my favorite 4stars so far playstyle wise, they're awesome!

Deepwood Memories is also a pretty decent set to run on Layla in Dendro team. If you have Freedom Sworn, it can be a solid option as well since she can trigger the passive reliably. Overall, nice guide :)
i recorded a section abt it then removed it bc like at that point idk if i'd even recommend using layla wothout the shield strength and hp that ToM gives u vs other options + vid was getting long
but ya -- if nobody has deepwood and you are running a dendro team then it can be viable (although her dendro teams are limited)

My initial thoughts on her from watching her Collected Miscellany video and checking her out in the Trial Run event was that running her with 3HP in Tenacity would be ideal. I think that's still my best option after watching this video. That said, while sleep deprived last night I suddenly remember a hydro goblet I have in the Blizzard Strayer set and started thinking of a team where she could be the on-field DPS in a freeze team 😅 I don't think that's a good idea, but the numbers I checked at least made it seem potentially viable. I mostly think that could be fun.
For her weapon I gave her Festering Desire. I guess you probably didn't mention that since most players these days probably don't have that sword and will never get it, but the ER is nice and the passive is very well-suited to her kit. I have found so far that the ER is enough, even when she's the sole cryo character in a team with no team ER buffs of any kind. I was running her with anemo traveller, Miko, and Nahida, so I don't think the team had particularly high particle generation.

What "needs" honestly... In the current era of 80 cost burst characters, 40 cost is basically a free burst which can be easily sustained by an odd ER substat roll here and there
I tried her out with Ayaka and honestly combined with Fav Sword she batteried Ayaka so damn well I'm not planning on going back to Diona lol.
I was really hoping she'd work well with Hu Tao since my Zhongli is for my Xiao team so I'm super happy to see she can work well in that Hu Tao team! ^^

I'd like to see the synergy between Diluc and Layla investigated more thoroughly as Layla generates two stars when an elemental skill is used and Dliuc can trigger 3 elemental skill procs in a 10 second duration. Enabling more melts for pyro carrys appears to me as her greatest strength. She also boosts normal and charged attack damage as a percentage of her max hp at c4, something that greatly benefits pyro carries. I bet her pyro variant comps calc the highest amongst all available teams she couild be slotted into.

A sword-user with HP scaling is kinda pain, considering there's only 2 swords with HP scaling and they're both 5*s (Jade Cutter passive, Key of Khaj substat + passive). Such a low energy cost on her burst though is a welcome compromise, can get all/most of your ER from the weapon, but I still wish to see a 4* sword with HP substat.
I absolutely love Layla's personality ( relatable) and how easy she was to build for me. I gave her some pretty decent stated leftover tripple HP Blizzard Strayer pieces I had from constantly trying to farm for my Ayaka, Rosaria and Kaeya decent sets still to this day. Her shield is strong and with sacrificial sword it will stay on almost always. She is awesome for freeze, melt and superconduct.

I really like her I'm using her in my wanderer freeze team since I do not own zhongli, she's the first character I built after ar45 and I got really good artifacts very quick!

Main problem i am having with Diona - Layla comparison (most common one, for obvious reasons) is that a lot of people have a C6 Diona at this point, and if you do - there are very, very little point in switching to Layla. Diona's burst does some damage too, btw, and with C6 that 200 EM buff destroys almost every possible benefit of using Layla instantly, DPS and all. I don't hate Layla, far from it - i think she's rather cute and her idle animations are adorable, but with a lot of Sumeru's characters ahead you should REALLY think twice before summoning for pretty much the same character you already have.
C6 Diona is really incomparable to her. C4 Layla will excel in a Scara team though, with Faruzan as another buffer. Also, Layla suffers from not having any good 4* weapon since there's no sword with HP substat yet.
Ngl, I just don't like Diona's deisgn. I don't care if she's the better pic, I'd rather use Layla personally.
@@kirin1230 Fair enough, using whomever you think is more fun is always better, especially since there's no endgame. I just don't want to waste a lot of resources (since you kinda have to 90 her to use effectively), but i still got a copy for tesing. Gonna stick with Diona after all. Layla is a great pickup for new player who lacks dedicated shielder tho, that's for sure.

Very true, but if people find her pretty they can still use her in the open world and get the most out of her tbh, which is what I'm planning to do. Don't risk pity to get her if you want Scara, but if you don't mind using a few wishes in the current banner and you like her design, it's not really so bad.

you are over-selling Layla's shield strength. Diona's shields are much bulkier because of her Hold E giving her +75% Shield bonus for a total of 175% Damage Absorption.
That in combination with simply being a bow character and being able to heal + Noblesse Oblige makes Diona a better utility character
I would say C4 is very good concidering shes cryo and can proc superconduct which is amazing for physical team comps! :)
C4 might be good on Scara too. sadly I have no constellations with 50 pity
Yes. No idea why there is no more emphasis on this. That's first CA buffer in the game, I think? That's great for many characters, like for Itto.
also, wouldn't her C4 work with bow users? Wouldn't she be a good option for melters/reverse melters since giving a buff like that can increase Charged Shot damage thus increasing melt damage? Amber + Layla is something I've been thinking about, testing and with a second cryo unit/hydro unit it works surprisingly well.
@@r.d.4465 Yes, Layla is realy great shielder + buffer, solid unit, for many teams, not only cryo but for others, like Itto or physical dpss. No idea why so many people are confused thinking Diona is better... Diona can only help fulfill more roles if someone doesn't have certain characters and practically that's all.
You had it in the graph but didn't mention it during your constellation run down, but c3 has a fairly significant impact to her shield strength as well.

I've been using her with a Heizou freeze team (Heizou, Rosaria, Xingqiu and Layla) and it's been pretty good. I've pretty much cleared up to floor 11 (floor 11 I'm trying to find a good team to quickly beat dendro cube - comfortably cleared 1st half w/ Heizou freeze within a minute - floor 12 I just need to lvl20 my artifacts and overall up my DPS).
Thinking of switching Rosa with my c1 Mona (50/50 losses are pain) to get that double Hydro HP buff for Layla and buff Heizou to One Punch style (currently 2-3 punches does the job). But still need to finish building Mona and figuring her playstyle out. We'll see how it goes.

Layla? Where's Layla? I don't see any Layla. Lately the drop rates have become appalling. Getting a new 4* has become harder than getting a 5*. Too many useless 4* weapons instead of characters in your pulls. Getting Layla seems impossible without reaching Pity. Only 2 Heizou in more than 250 pulls considering his previous Banner and this rerun. Thoma everywhere. And a bunch of weapons.
I got C5 Layla during this recent Nahida rerun in just 70 draws.

I put Festering Desire on Layla to give a little more oomph to her shooting star shots and get a hefty amount of ER. The thing I don't like about Favonius and Sacrificial swords is that their effects don't work in the user isn't on the field. So Favonius won't generate any particles if Layla's not the one currently in the shield when a shooting star shot crits and the same goes for the Sacrificial where the skill cooldown won't reset on any skill damage if the holder isn't currently the one that's out.
It really stinks that Nilou's keyblade is the only tried and true HP% sword in the game currently.

she is my new ayaka shushiuahiuhs i love to play with her as a cryo dps and fisical dps, it takes a bit to kill the enemys but i love her playstyle that i just cant get bored of her
It's really interesting you brought up zajef's calcs, because that's the exact reason I don't think it's worth it to get her.
1) the most important thing, I would absolutely not use her as a shielder. Her shield is mostly fine, but most of her utility and function is in the shield being on. If it breaks, you get nothing. So that means instead of using the shield as a shield, you're actively still trying to dodge to make sure you get it's full time out and that defeats the purpose of using her as a shielder.
2) what she offers in place of her closest comparison, diona, is not nearly as good. She has a stronger shield and does cryo off field (sometimes). That means you lose out on the healing diona gives and the EM buff. As well as whatever bow buff she could give. In exchange, since it's been tested by zajef, you get very mediocre damage occasionally.
3) because of her off field status, her ER needs are slightly worse, taking away from other stats. She has a 40 cost burst and was in a team with 2 other cryos and still managed not to have her burst on after a rotation.
4) honestly the last and most annoying thing is that she's a hp sword user. Bow or catalyst would have fit her support role better
Layla is just one of those characters where I truly don't get the point. They just made a lesser version of diona.

Got her last minute. I use her in my Kequing team. (Kequing, Nahida, Xingqui, Layla) it works pretty well. ANd my Layla is just level 40

As a F2P genshin player i don't have all chars. But i do have a C1 Layla. Been using her in a Beidou+Xinqui+Nahida+Layla team. And it just cruised through the abyss. I know Beidou isn't the best option for aggrevate/quicken but it's the best i have :(
There's this Freeze Conduct team with Raiden, Kokomi, Beidou and Layla, it's such a satisfying team, it may not be a very meta team, but it's just so satisfying to hear all those stars chime and electric crackle

But there is one thing, i am missing here. while you explain, what Stat is good on the artefacts, i would love, when you show your overall stats on the Character so that someone like me can have a overall guess of how do the stats need to look like to be exceptional good, you know? but all in all, i really appreciate your work. My keqing and my Eula are better than ever thanks to you guides. Much love bro
getting overall stats is as virtually impossible as running a good ganyu melt team, he alr said what ER you should be aiming for a good rotation, the overall DMG>Shield Absorb stat priority, her artifact set choices. her damage would change depending what team and character you're running her with, like melt could be helped with a little bit of em or with ganyu wouldn't need much hp% due to her range and em would be pointless for her playstyle, on bosses you wouldn't run freeze teams, etc. it is game experience, not pinned to a textbook, if you're ever stuck just use rules that usually works on other characters like 1:2 crit ratio or smth, also could ask forums, or use genshin calculator but honestly the latter is just overkill unless you're tony to
I pulled Layla a month ago and didn't use her. I really wanted a shielder but when I tried her playstyle I didn't like it. However, yesterday night I tried playing her again and she's actually great to have. She's so much fun to play. Idk why I didn't like her playstyle back then.
The same thing happens in Yanfei in my other account. Took me months before liking her and adding her to my team.
something kind of interesting is that because i dont have the key sword (for obvious reasons), i dont have an hp sword i can use on her. i also dont have a favonius sword copy, my only one is used on kazuha, and didnt like swapping sacrificial around for her so i gave her amenoma. turns out its actually a pretty good weapon for her. i originally gave it to her because my hp% tenacity pieces already had decent enough er so that i didnt have many energy issues and just picked something pretty for her to use, but its actually pretty nice on her
