Excellent video, some very good tips, I'm glad you've mentioned about the lower tempo as a lot of FM players just expect to plug in a tactic and away they go, but then complain when the tactic becomes unstuck against a "lesser" team. But that "lesser" is literally parking the bus and you need to lower the tempo to encourage ball retention which then hopefully encourages the opposition to leave their designated positions leaving a space to exploit.

About the video, it was so helpful and clear. Nowadays almost 90% of fm CZcamsrs public a tactic a day. And all the tactics are so similar (higher tempo, counter press). So boring.

Your channel is golden, detail information, first game and season with Bournemouth took them to top 8. I still find the scout stuff difficult a little cause they barely spot player in the other regions, just Englaand a few country.

Thanks for the video. Watched it this morning. Was going through one of the mid season slumps you talked about. Promoted from french national to ligue2 with Sochaux (Fcsm) and around christmas in first season in ligue2 form fell of a cliff. I was top of the league. Was trying different tactics although i knew the tactic is pretty decent. I’ve changed a couple of things now on the same tactic and took counter attack off. Seems to have stopped the slide. Sitting 2nd in march with 6 games to go. Cheers

Some good advices on what to avoid, I've certainly been guilty of the counter-press and tempo many times before and nowadays I change it up depending on the game situation

Admittedly I am not very aware tactically. My current team, Coventry City, managed to get promoted to the Premier League and then proceeded to get smashed after a promising start. I was at my wits end trying to figure out what was going wrong. Maybe I should have watched this video at some stage during the PL season. I think it would have helped enormously. Surprisingly, I didn't get sacked so now the job will be to develop a new squad, new tactics and go back to the PL. Thanks for the video!

@@yalocalkebab_yt6093 Got promoted straight away with Coventry City but I was annoyed as they only had to win 1 game from the last 3 but lost 2 and drew 1. Lost the Championship by 1 point but still gained auto promotion. I quit Coventry when they were 11th in the Prem League, had a few months off and got the job with Liverpool. Not really enjoying it to be honest. Only playing now irregularly because of that. BTW Coventry now are relegation threatened again, only 3 points from the drop zone.

Tk u for ur content. One question, what do u think about that ppl who do OP tatics, and some of them works everytime without change team instrutions. Do u think its because of looking just for ME "errors"? I play like u. Try to change during the game but then i see this OP tatics and think "why i need to change instrutions?!". Sorry about my english
Your English is absolutely fine. I think everyone should just play the game how they want, there are definitely styles that “break” the match engine but I personally wouldn’t get any satisfaction from that so I try to play a different way.

A question on width and passing directness for possession heavy sides. When you increase width to unlock low blocks more should you also increase directness or remain with the directness set?
It really depends on that situation. If they are defending deep you might want your players to play narrower in the little pockets/channels and push your wing backs forward to overload. Or you might want your wide men really wide and your full backs as inverted wing backs to overload in midfield. There isn’t any ‘right’ thing to do as we would all do it.
Imho, no. Direct passing is more vertical than horizontal in nature. It tends to pass upfront to the next line. It's not about how long the pass range is.
"Short" pass in FM also doesn't talk about the range. It's about the "closer proximity", passing towards nearest teammates, rather than towards further ones. You can still play Short pass in Wide width.

In fm23 if i play on high tempo, the moment we win the ball we progress it fast towards their goal and we have a scoring chance. On low tempo the opposition just comes back in to its formation and sits deep leaving me with frustrations as my team can't break them down. Going anything but fast tempo didn't work for me. Im talking about teams that defend deep.
I said in the video it can work and does work but I found that if I’m doing well then playing slower lures the other team out of their deep blocks. Playing fast a lot of the time for me anyway just meant a lot of errors and misplaced passes.
i think your players just arent good enough then. decisions stat is important in determining if the player will make the best play in the moment
Yeah, sure you will gave MORE scoring chances with fast Tempo. But the most important consideration is: Are those chances good in QUALITY? I believe you can see in real life, most of our best works were done when we're not in a hurry. As the manager, it's your job to decide whether you need MORE chances (in quantity), or BETTER chances (in quality).
My advice, always go for QUALITY first. Your team have 90 minutes, that's a lot of time worth to be sacrificed for 3 or 4 great chances of scoring goals.
Your players need to have off the ball, tech, first touch, composure to pull the slow tempo thing. And try to overload one side of the pitch.😂
Forwards getting caught offside too often ? What could possibly be wrong tactically ? Or is it just the player ?

If your tactics stop working and you find it hard to even defeat a similar reputation team, what can one do
Are they dominating you? If they are, why/how are they? Maybe their AM is getting too much of the ball, you could man mark him. Are you giving the ball away too easily? Slow it down. So many reasons.
@@LewisH90 I'm dominating but the team is not taking their chances, and slight opportunity they get to score. Losing 2-1, 1-0, or playing a draw.
But overall shot always off target
kind of incorrect about the overlap instruction. overlapping increases the 'mentality' of your fullbacks/wingbacks and may decrease the mentality of your wide attacking players, depending on your team mentality and role/duties. in that vein the 'riskier' the mentality the more likely it is the player will get forward

I have no idea what to make of any of this. All of your tips directly contradict the meta as proven in simulations over at FM Arena. Everything you say people should avoid, is exactly what the most overpowered tactics in FM use.
I my opinion "anything can work" is not a real argument against "this is demonstrably better".
I have streamed Football Manager live on Twitch for over 5 years now and I have done some things on there that most people wouldn’t even try. I know this sounds big headed but I feel like I need to tell you. I took an English Vanarama North team to win the Champions League without any signings last year. I did the same the year before with a Spanish 4th division one.
I feel like tactics is my biggest strength in FM so I do feel like what I’m saying will and does work.
I also don’t really care what other people say (in the nicest way possible) because like I say I feel like I have accomplished the hardest tasks in Football Manager.
It’s perfectly fine to not agree also btw mate, just wanted to offer my side of things. If you find it contradictory then that’s totally fine.
I also followed those on FM arena at the start of my FM24, but most of them not work well for me; I guest maybe due to different FM version as FM24 match engine has changed while most of those FM arena tests are FM22 FM23.
The 'meta' tactics are the easiest to maintain. I've seen guys do very well with all sorts of other tactics including ultra defensive and classic route one. It is possible but you have to know what you're doing. Less so with the wild gegenpress tactics.
