Hi, I came in late to the live last night so I’m rewatching today. I have a month ahead binder. Mine are set up just like you’re describing. I’m so proud because I have 15 envelopes and I’ve just completed #10. I just started my journey in January. I can’t wait to see where I am in January 2025.

My daddy always had a car payment when I was growing up. What he was doing is during the years they actually did not have an actual car payment he put that money in the bank. The other thing him and mom did only one new car at a time. For example looking at years 1-6 that’s paying a car payment for an actual car payment. Years 7- 8 he pains the amount to the bank. Usually they would get a new car about every 7 and 8 years. No actual car payment he did still save for that. Then years 9 to 15 paying an actual car payment. Years 15 and 16 no actual car payment money goes in the bank. Years 17 to 22 actual car payment then years 23 and 24 money in the bank. So by year 24 all cars paid off and enough for new car in the bank. No more car loans but you do still sane so you have money for next car.

For me if the savings challenge started out as a steppingstone, then I don’t feel bad about putting it into other things if it didn’t start out the way then I don’t. I just put that straight into my sink.
