    He did understand it, he was just very aware of the fact that it was hard to follow. I also don't believe he was trashing this, he was simply saying "Look, Ridley, you're better than this, putting out movies at this frequency is no good for you".

    Love Kermode, love Mayo but Body of Lies is a good movie, its not the book but its pretty good, with good performances and a nuanced and subtle message that the Middle East isn't the black and white place we believe it to be. Kermode is God.

    Anyone know what the Eminence Grise pun / reference is at 6:00?
    Also have they moved Amman to Lebanon now? I know it's crazy round those parts but didn't see that coming!

    Body of Lies wasn’t bad or not bad enough to say that it’s a step down from American Gangster which would’ve been garbage if it wasn’t up to the cast that pulled it off.

  • @Raymint
    @Raymint Před 14 lety +1

    It's not and I don't think he said it was but the majority of who'll go to see it will be Ridley Scott fans and they'll expect more, of which they won't be getting.

    I thought body of lies was better than American Gangster. I’ve watched body of lies many times but American Gangster just twice because of the cast but that was enough for me.

    Whilst the film has great acting, style & great direction, the film’s lack of storytelling & the use of the film’s spy genre is what destroys the film. (47%) (2.5/5 stars) (mixed)

    An average review by Mark Kermode, one highlight of his is the Sex in the City review - terse, scathing and uncompromising. Of course I have disagreements with him on films such as Taken and Quantum of Solace. However he is clearly well versed in film and does know his subject matter (some may scoff at thesis on horror fiction). I find his output more engaging than the likes of Andrew Collins or James King.

  • @johnmilnes8118

    Is it racist that Mark Strong went brown and put on a wig and accent to play a Jordanian character? Why couldn't they have just hired a Jordanian actor? They didn't hire him as a 'name' to bring in money because they had Crowe and DiCaprio to do that. I also thought that Crowe's character was rather pointless and nobody really knew what was happening, including me. Mark Strong was definitely not the best part of this film, DiCaprio was by a mile

    • @shapeshifter7676
      @shapeshifter7676 Před 2 lety +1

      Why do they never hire Russian actors instead of Americans with horrible accents? It's not racist unless you make it so. And how is it always the white boys looking for racism where there is none? You don't get to cry about it if you're not from Jordan yourself.
