Jason Ecks to the rescue to reshape his clients beard. The client had gone to a different barber and was unpleased with the end result. To even out the beard, Jay trims down the bulk of the beard below the jaw line to allow the upper part to fill in. When the upper cheek area gets a little longer, it will give the clients beard a more natural, fuller appearance. - Jak na to + styl
Some of the comments don't seem to get what was going on here. The guy started out with a neckline that was too high and a cheek line that was too low (hence "Fixing Mistakes" in the title). So the barber faded everything on those areas so that the beard could be grown out and look even while doing so. The idea being that in a month or so, the guy could get another trim and have the lines set in properly, which will end up with a fuller-looking beard. In the end.
Overall the barber did a great job of making it look decent for the short term process of adding length and getting the lines reset at a later date.
You sir, know what you're talking about.

Beardbrand hahaah ur barbers r trash u gotta come to the usa. Barbers over here would make ur barbers look like a little kid smh cant even make a clean line with the razor mad uneven
You know their HQ is in Austin TX right?
Precisely. He is dealing not only with mistakes made by the guy in his home trimming, but also with the fact that different parts of facial hair grow at different rates, and different parts need to be slightly different lengths when you are at an ideal shape. The comments by some that he should shave the whole thing off and start over again are therefore off-target, and the comments that say he should just let it grow even further before trimming miss the obvious point that we want our beards to look as good as possible while we are getting to where we want to go.
ColoradoCamper je could have faded the top cheek lines in with the cheek length. idc what you say. he could've done that. that's the only thing wrong that I see.
I can understand what was done on the cheek and neckline but the trim on the moustache is unforgivable
Yeah he should have used the scissors on the mustache & no trim down at all
The sadness in his eyes is the look of "I just paid 50 quid for this"
Ok, we will need an UPDATE vid
teakey he never came back lmao
I think he's done with growing a beard forever
If you can I would like to see another beard trim on this gentleman in a month from now like the barber recommended.
Andrew Clark l he didn’t come back lmao
I am not a licensed barber/stylist but have been cutting hair for a long time with the help of my older brother who is a barber and showed me the way. I love beardbrand because they definitely cater to the client and give them as well as us viewers education on proper barbering and talk them through the whole process! Their customer service is definitely A1 and I take a lot from these vids. Thanks for the lessons!
This is somehting that must be appreciated.. following the natural lines.
Looking forward to seeing the end progress in 2/4 weeks!
Big Fan of the series.
Have you guys ever made a video on how to deal with an asymmetrical/uneven beard from your left side to your right? (not just how to work with a patchy beard). I think most guys have a dominant side to their beard but mine is very pronounced. My Right side grows in perfect (Thick and Full, High Cheek line, Low Neck Line, Full Moustache, Great connectors for the moustache and the sideburns). My Left side on the other hand grows in much weaker (Patchy and disconnected, Much lower cheek line, Higher neck line, weaker moustache, weak connectors for moustache and sideburns). The result is a noticeably uneven beard if I grow it out naturally.
As a workaround I end up having to groom my good side to match my weak side (which I'd rather not do). I take down the cheek line and take up the neck line on my good side higher than I would want to in an effort to make both sides match. I understand that we all have asymmetries but what should we do when they are very noticeable?
I've seen several videos on how to work with a patchy beard but never something specifically addressing how to work with prominent asymmetries from left to right.
Anyways I thought this might be a good and beneficial topic to tackle for the bearded community. Thanks for the quality content.
tommyhc u can try minoxidil if youre ha ing problems with growth on your weaker side, it helped me so much to reach my goal on connecting my stache to beard combo. give it a try
tommyhc it would also definitely help with your neckline situation. I had the same exact problem as you, also with the cheekline
I read up on it but I don't like the possible side effects. Think I'm just going to work with what I've got.
Grow it as long as you want and tidy it up when ever as it slowly grows bigger with volume. That's what I did but it's a process
you messed his beard up all he wanted is a little clean up you act like you know it all but you need to listen to what your client wants
Faz AnwR The hard lines that was put in before was prolly from the client asking for it. And then came here and said help me, and they did a great job trying to blend in the super harsh lines formed. Yeah client has an idea of what they would want but a barber literally does it every day, and these guys actually know about hair and how to make it look best for each individual. Getting a beard lined up to a cheek length you want isn't good. It looks weird, hard to maintain, and just isn't natural.
Faz AnwR he wanted it fixed
Luis Torres no. No he didn’t. He wanted it tided up a little.
In a month it will look sweet
Great job! Is there a way to start adding a before and after trim image? Also can we see an update on this after he has grown it out a bit. Very informative video all around though! Keep up the work!
what's the reason of removing the top hairs of the moustache? I don't get it.
There is zero point, it is the absolutel opposite to how you trim a moustache. It looks ridiculous.
This guy's beard is still in progress, that's why the barber trimmed it like that. You can't have ten different lengths of hair, try to grow it out AND get it cleaned up. He had to trim a lot off to keep the shorter hairs by his natural line. The other option would be to shave/trim everything and start all over lol.
Or the other option would be to do you know, what the client asked for instead of what he thought needed to be done.
People complaining about this have not had this problem before, i have. In a couple weeks it will be filled in more and the beard is where it should have been from the beginning. Great work.
He's looking at him like "WTF?!" I said I wanna keep it basically what it looks like with the stray hairs trimmed.
WhiteRhino no it was necessary. you young buck learn.
He did a great job of fixing the natural cheek line and the fade was excellent. I still don't like how high he brings the neckline though, it takes away so much mass from the beard.
I think he did a good job. If you want to grow it out and you have all those different length hair, the barber has to take out quite a bit. Additionally if you look perfect when you get out of the barber shop you will not look perfect anymore in a few days. You WILL almost always be disappointed at your barber but realise wether or not he did a good job a few days to a week later.
I was kind of sad when my barber cut my beard into a really weird shape but he did it so that the different lenghts and the different growing speeds could catch up to each other. Now I am really happy with the shape.
at first i thought he was messing it up but after it reallly looked wayyy better he did a nice job
It'd be nice to see the growth after a few weeks, see how it inevitably turns out.
I loved the way you explained it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for watching!
- Jack
It's really hilarious to see these people posting that don't understand how beards are grown. You get a trim every so often so that eventually, your beard just grows in naturally looking good. Until you're closer to that point, you need a lot of trims which will take a good portion of your beard off. Hence why I grew my beard for months, got a trim and then let it grow in again. Once my beard is an ungodly, messy state, I'll get it trimmed again. This way my beard will still be fairly long, even after being trimmed, but I'll be able to slowly have it start growing in better, and trims will be less necessary at all
yeah idk why everyone is saying he did a bad job the beard was not right to begin with all he did was trim it so it can grow in properly itll look epic in a month or so beards take time to perfect unfortunately his previous trim was trash but this guy fixed him up
And that's how a barber perfectly ruin your face 😂😁
Am Always desired to have a thick beard but my hairs are soft and bit bouncy i would love to have 1 like the eric.... Luv ur beard man
Is there a follow-up video?
so many barbers won't touch a straight razor where I am ffs there's an odd pleasure I get from the steady hand and accuracy need to use one
This is the 2nd guy this barber messed up.. is he fired yet?
Franksta281 he fixed it up
Franksta281 he is fixing the beard brother 😊
Luis Torres no he didn’t.
Half of you know nothing about beards. We need an update vid.
That barber vandalized the client's beard overall
Hi what type of beard is this as would like to ask my barber for the same
I'm very impressed by the skill of this barber. This guys beard is excellent. Just goes to show just how many differences you find in beards. Well done that mam!
what can you do with the facial hair that grows on different directions like on 1:55 i have that problem on the right side but if my beard it's around 1month it looks good but now that i trim it looks weird if i go full shave will fix the problem?
I would recommend using Utility or Styling Balm for those stubborn hairs. Of course you can always get a pair of scissors and strategically chop off those hairs.
-Parker
How to lose the will to go @barber shop
RIP Your beard dude, even if he fixed the " mistake " I prefer keeping my inequal beard than having a beard like the final part of the video :(
btw where is this barber shop i want to go
1:20 NOOO
i just shaved off 5 months of growth because i messed up the neckline. im still having nightmares about my poor follicals
i eat plants ..me too bro
Esse cara é um monstro na arte👏👏👏
I want my beard to come to a point like that but I messed up trimming it recently and made my chin too short by accident. Not sure how to fix my mistake
I need you in my life,
where is this barber ??
Awesome fade
6:38 I'll leave it there...HAHA
At 4:02
Barber: “I’m taking a number 2 here.”
Client : “ please go to the restroom”.
Me: “Wtf is this? 2 boys 1 cup?”
Im sure he said in the beginning he wants to leave it the way it is but just clean it up this barber did not care lool
he was looking good before the barber's experimentation on him
good job dude
i don't personally like the moustache, but the beard is pretty good
Fabiana Milone yh, those type of moustashes i don't think they work with that beard.
Fabiana Milone I wouldnt really call that a beard! lol
I want to see the six month followup to this video...
6:39 lmfao 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
the barber sounds like Tom Hardy anyone else agree?
Yes haha. Not sure I would want Bronson giving me a cut.
#Beardbrand is doing very good job for me best on youtube 💪👍
I guess it was pretty good seeing as it was pretty messed up to begin with imo.
Where is this barbers
why did barber trim bottom of lower lip/above chin?
I would have let my beard grow more for a couple of months, before going to get a trim. Not much to work with...
Wolfy Lubberwort but he is going to let it grow out and at this point in time it looks maintained and clean.
teakey I know.. I'm just saying what I would do.
His moustache looks funny 😂
What if i have too much curly beard....
I do understand the 'fixing' cut but personally I would have had the cheek and neck line cut in a couple of months
cool video. you should do a second one when he has another month of growth. Then show the comparison between the two beards
These 'beard barbers' just talk like their professional and make you think they know what they're doing. But mate the guy in this video had a better beard before they guy even touch it. He just fucked it up so badly he didn't even cut the extra hair at the bottom. The beard still looks scruffy so basically the guy did nothing
How can you tell with your Head up your asses?
6:36
At this point he knew. He had fucked up. (Queue music 🎶 Hello darkness my old friend 🎶)
Why everyone seems to miss that they forgot to shape the neck line.... (below the chin and on the neck hairs) ...
Neat. Makes the face less round
At the start he was so bubbly 😂😂😂
Lol the mustache
I agree with everything he has done but the stash .
Fair enough!
- Jack
Boy got him s chin strap lol😂😂💯
Looked better when he walked in
His beard was too short to be getting a trim to begin with. The only work that's needed in the early stages is to maintain the neckline. Which is a DIY job. And possibly cheek lines if your have hair that is high up near the eyes. Keep your beard nice and soft by using oil, and you will be fine. Nothing else until the beard has LENGTH. That's when you can afford to take a bit off for shaping.
joaquinbond007 I agree I am kicking myself in the rear just come from the Barber did not stop and use my regular Barber boy what a mistake lost some the seventy five days of growth.. high up on my cheeks had a good C curve going over to my mustache now both sides of my face I've got a check marks pissed pissed pissed
its very frustrating brother but remember. Its hair. It will always grow back. Learn from the mistakes now, the next 75 days will be better because you know what to do now!
Smith Fletcher: That sucks! Sometimes, the best thing to do is to start from zero. Barbers are experienced with head-hair, but most of them don't know what they're doing with beards. The worst ones are the chain places, like Gre@t c1ip$, and $p0rt Cut$. You don't want to let those ladies touch your beard. It would be a disaster. You could always go to a pricey specialist, like the ones in this video, but even those guys will tend to mess your beard up because they have huge egos and like to think of themselves as artists. They might do too much to it. At the end of the day, who can you trust? Yourself, that's who.
Growing out mistakes or even first cut on a new beard sucks every time.
This customer literally wanted to TIDY it up. Nothing else.
just come back from the barber shop pissed off just lost 75 days of growth up high on my cheeks where the hair meets mustache Barber did not listen got that check look on both sides instead of coming around like a c coming to the mustache After I spend all that time before I sit in the chair explaining what I want
Good video, great sales, terrible execution on the beard. God bless and good luck
Some barbers think we want skinny low beards. NO WE WANT IT THICK AS POSSIBLE
1:30 he has a peak at the mirror and sees how much beard the barber took off. he hates it and you can see his adam's apple moving showing his nervousness. ouch.
Nice save! Seems like he went to a NBA or NFL barber a few weeks before... and he destroyed his beard, as they do with most players.
Where is this guy? I need my beard fixed
Cut & Grind in London
- Jack
No eyebrow treatment on this gentleman...?
many uneducated comments on here. I went through the same thing. I had a barber that didn't understand full beards. finally found one who did but he had to fix the mistakes. now I can refresh my beard with a straight razor on my own. your beard will always look like shit during the regrow unless you opt to cut it off and start over.
This is the unfortunate truth.
-Parker
Great trim
U want a beard then jst let it grow ..!!! Dont got to barbers
Sometimes a good trim helps keep a good shape though
- Jack
Just line ups and let it grow.
Beardbrand yeah but not at the point where he was. U gave him a good trim and shape up but im talking if u want the beard beard .
I don't know why I'm watching this I shave everyday x)
Maybe that should change :D
-Parker
I’m not paying for those messed up lines lol
Ideally you should shave it all off and re grow it from scratch
I feel sorry for this guy....didn’t get what he asked for
The only bright side is that I did learn about the need for a nice fine tooth comb and balm for moisturizing ones beard
Great job! Now he will go to another barber to fix that mustache.
Wish I had his hairline. I'm only 20 and already bald af lmaoo
jason do good job from this bad beard...
He was better off leaving the beard alone 😂
So the barber spends the whole video ragging on this poor lad's beard and then fucks up a brother's moustache.
He fixed it
That’s why he never came back lol
barber sounds abit like tom hardy lol
I would've trimmed the whole beard down evenly to regrow it....
Got to be one of the biggest fuck ups from a barber ive watched, wtf was he thinking on the tash hes taken random chunks out lol 😆
I like your technique and vids a lot but mannn your guys lines aren't crisp like I'm used to in Chicago ! It's all about pin point cuts and curves out here you guys are more natural and normal out there. Not saying it's bad but just different, like the mustache, out here everyone likes it thinner and more crisp you guys like it much bulkier. Anyways cool vids
Yeah you're totally right! Cut and Grind is all about the natural lines with longer lengths on the beards.
-Parker
the barber sounds like tom hardy haha
Having a beard looks cool, but the maintenance seems like a lot of work.
It's definitely not easy. If you want to keep it trim and neat, it does take some time, but like with most great things in life, the effort you put in is worth it.
- Jack
That mustache does not go with that beard mate. Try to disconnect the mustache with the beard, I have similar facial hair as this guy and it looks much better disconnected. Sort of what David Beckham does with his
great fucking job mate
ERROR
WTF!
you didn't cut over his mustache?
Yeah it's a personal preference thing.
-Parker
I don’t care what anyone says, the guy didn’t ask for that, he fucked him up. Let me guess, he never came back?
Fuckdup work
Saved it. Legend!
