  • The goon of Slapshot, Ogie Ogilthorpe, was quite the character, but so was the man that he was inspired by.
    Here's the crazy, but true story of the real Ogie Ogilthorpe...Bill Goldthorpe.

    • @weary1
      @weary1 Před 18 dny +1

      His “real” movie name was Ogilthorpe, however the Charleston Chiefs’ goalkeeper in the movie was from a French-speaking part of Canada. With his movie accent, he was unable to pronounce Ogilthorpe, hence we have Ogiltorpe . Slap Shot was filmed in my hometown of Johnstown, Pennsylvania. The cast stayed at local hotels and ate at local restaurants. During the filming a number of people that I have known would talk about going into a bar for a beer and meeting Paul Newman there. From everything I’ve heard he was very friendly and outgoing with people who approached him. BTW, the football movie All the Right Moves, which starred (a very young) Tom Cruise, Lea Thompson, and Craig T. Nelson was also filmed in Johnstown a few years after Slap Shot.
