  • The Lake George Steamboat Company owns and operates a paddle steamer off the shores of Lake George Village. Her name is Minne Ha-Ha and was built by the Lake George Steamboat Company in 1969. Her name, Minne Ha Ha, means laughing waters, and is actually the second vessel owned by the company with that name. Though this Minne Ha Ha still operates alongside Mohican and Lac Du Saint Sacrament, the original was torn apart for scrap. Minne Ha Ha has gone under many upgrades since her construction, including diesel engines just in case she runs out of steam, and to make docking easier. Though she has a diesel engine, the entirety of the cruise is powered by her two steam driven paddles in the rear. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the sounds of this beautiful vessel, as her whistle echoes throughout the Adirondack Mountains

    I have fond memories of being up at Lake George as a little boy with my family. I remember riding the Minne Ha Ha and Ticonderoga. I'll never forget the calliope! I miss Gaslight Village and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

      @@TrainChamber The Three Rivers Queen from the Gateway Clipper is my favorite riverboat. She's so beautiful! If the one at Disney wasn't attached to rails I would say that one. I really don't go to a lot of railroads or riverboat cruises because I am an amusement park fan and I really don't want my family to drive 5+ for a boat. The Gateway Clipper is the closest option for me.

    • @TrainChamber
      @TrainChamber  Před 4 lety +1

      Shes a real paddle steamer. Her diesel engine is used for docking. The whole cruise on the lake is powered by real steam.

    • @anthonybenedetto9315
      @anthonybenedetto9315 Před 4 lety +1

      The Diesel engine and single prop was added to the vessel when it was lengthened in 1998 as emergency backup propulsion should we lose steam pressure or encounter heavy winds coming into the dock. The Minne Ha Ha operates to this day as a genuine steam powered sternwheeler just with an emergency modern backup diesel for safety reasons.

      @@anthonybenedetto9315 I read somewhere you're the captain that loves to use the Lunk? What days are you at the wheel?! I'd love to be able to get some videos of that whistle. In my 15+ years of visiting Lake George I think i've only heard it in person once. It was refreshing to hear the Crosby all summer last year, too. Can you tell the Mockingbird is not one of my favorites? LOL.

    • @anthonybenedetto9315
      @anthonybenedetto9315 Před 4 lety

      Michael S yes you are right; although the Crosby is my favorite! Unfortunately I’m not working this summer. However if you ask any of the captains to use the “high pitched” whistle, they’ll do that for you! Some of the Captains don’t know the brand of whistle so if you say Lunkenheimer, they might just blow any of the 3. Lol.

    • @michaelstrohmaier1612

    strange sounding whistle... what kind?

    • @TrainChamber
      @TrainChamber  Před 4 lety +1

      She has 3 whistles, 2 are heard in this video. The First one is a multi-tone where a lunk and 2 hooters blow at the same time. The 2nd one is a flat-top 3 chime, and the last one that I didnt catch was huuugeeee one chime

      Train Chamber gotcha

    • @anthonybenedetto9315
      @anthonybenedetto9315 Před 4 lety

      Train Chamber the big one is the Mockingbird whistle. The Minne’s signature whistle actually heard in most videos. This year the captains are mixing it up! 👍

    • @TrainChamber
      @TrainChamber  Před 4 lety +1

      @@anthonybenedetto9315 He was blowing it this year but mainly after dark is when i heard it

    • @anthonybenedetto9315
      @anthonybenedetto9315 Před 4 lety

      Also the 3 chime single bell whistle is a Crosby. If you don’t open the valve completely she barks a bit which you can hear on the long landing whistle; but she is a really beautiful sounding whistle. The higher pitched three bell lunkenhiemer was off of the Army Corp of Engineers Steamboat: Iroquois and is pushing 150 years of age! I rarely open it up all way and only use it for saying hello to people and I do a few quick toots opening the valve maybe a quarter of the way. However when a boat decides to stop right in front of us the Lunkenheimer is the go to whistle because it really gets peoples attention! I really love the Minne in case you haven’t noticed. 😊👍
