    Hello ASL Heroes!!!
    Hey, I could really use your help.
    If you’ve enjoyed having access to an expert in ASL you can help me continue my work for you. A small (or more if you can afford it) donation from you would instantly make a big difference here at the studio because teachers don’t earn much and I could use some help paying for server and domain hosting for Lifeprint.com.
    You can help out a humble (not to mention kind, caring, generous, compassionate, helpful, friendly, fair, and hard-working) ASL teacher -- just go here right now and a few clicks later you too will be a true “ASL Hero!”

      The more people click the "like" button and share the videos -- the better the channel will do in the algorithm. (I mention that here not for you -- since I'm sure you already know that -- but rather for other individuals who are reading these comments). It really is such a simple no-cost way to support the creators you like -- especially if a person can't afford to donate. Another way is to let at least 30 seconds of the ads play.

    • @sign-language
      @sign-language  Před 4 lety +33

      Hello Beth!
      In some of the prototype versions of this course we tried using multiple cameras and switching back and forth. It didn't work out well. It took too much time to zoom in on individual students close enough to see their hands clearly. It just really interrupted the flow of the class and created a bit of a whiplash effect. Sure, the current method means you don't get to see the audience but on the other hand keeping the camera pointed up front and relatively tightly cropped insures that you get to clearly see the instructional parts of the lesson.
      Another issue here is that the audience members are real students most of whom are just trying to get their degree -- not become internet famous. It is actually scary for many people to be video recorded -- especially if they know that tens of thousands of people might view it.
      Yet another issue is the "photographic rights" issue. The students who sit with me in front of the camera have given permission to be recorded and broadcast. The students in the audience have not. It is awkward to ask 25 to 30 students to unanimously grant consent and photographic releases. It has to be unanimous since if the camera shows one student chances are it will catch the student's sitting on either side as well.
      Brainstorming here -- instead of being driven crazy by not seeing the audience's responses to the questions you might wish to consider focusing on using that same time to practice signing "your own" response to each question. (Just an idea.) I do get it though that certain people are highly curious about "other" people. My wife is the same way. She seriously enjoys "people watching."
      I note that you have elected to become a patron and donate to ASLU. Thank you very much. I appreciate it.
