What is in the waters of Modena to have allowed it to produce not just 1-but 2 heart-breakers, Freni & Pavarotti? Everytime I hear them I'm left trembling with the uplifting emotion they've inspired. What magnificent humanity!
I was born in Modena and still live here :) I can't tell you what is there in our waters... surely something special.. a match that was meant to be... written in the stars
Now, 2 years on from my comment above, the great Mirella Freni passes on this Sunday, 9th February, 2020 - but the memories linger. Bless Modena for giving us both Freni AND Pavarotti to enhance and enthrall the world.........an era closes.

So, let's hear it for the genius composer, Puccini,without whom none of us would have these comparisons to make! Let's just adore his magical music-making - whoever the performers are.., I love them all!

I am so lucky to live in this era. The great gift of having Pavarotti and Freni and being able to hear such utterly beautiful singing. This is pure joy. And still having all the greats of past also on recordings. So many gems to choose from. Thank you God for giving us these marvelous singers.
Also, please thank the artists for all the very hard work they did or do to actuate the gifts they were given via their DNA; and thank the people who nurtured them. After they were born to the "stage of life", everything was in their hands... God stood in the wings. Cheers!
I remember hearing Madame Butterfly at the Verona Arena in the early 2000s. Cannot remember the names of the two lead singers, but they weren't in this league that's for sure. Great to hear two of the finest opera singers at the peak of their powers. RIP Pavarotti.

esto es verismo .....verismo....no....belcanto........y es un verismo maravilloso........freni y Pavarotti........la gloria........aquí la impostación vocal es romántica.......trágica y certera.......sin florituras y con el encanto de la melodía mas endiabladamente atmosférica amorosamente hablando...........y cantando........esto es verismo puro.....con unas voces únicas y maravillosas que hacen el sueño de cualquier principiante....y veterano del mayor de los cantos ........la opera........grandiosa y sublime......cuando se canta con pasión ...voz y sentido......se come todo los sonidos del mundo...........

I wish I could find a version sung by Franco Corelli,as Pavorotti is tech.very good there was no match to Corelli as far as Dramatic Tenors go,if anyone finds it anywhere I will pay good money.

Definitivamente, Madama Butterfly is an opera "for sopranos" as someone said... No me, and it's true. The sopranos real heaven in this opera.
