    Great video. I just bought the smaller version of the base called the bear “cub”. My Grizzly band saw is 300 something pounds so I didn’t get the bigger one. 5 years later than your purchase the unit was $98. Still worth it because my garage is smallish. I’ll put it together this weekend and see how it goes. Thanks for the help!

      I have 2 of these and they work good once they are adjusted to the floor. Move them and if the floor is not perfectly flat readjust them. Best to mark the floor where they are adjusted. Thanks for watching.

    A smart, sensible and easy to understand video. Well done. *** Heads Up. Before your Laguna lower wheel shows up try to pull the existing one off the axle. I've had a fair bit of trouble getting Laguna bandsaw wheels off their axles. A normal fit of wheel to axle should allow you to grab the rim with your hands and give it a yank and pop, the wheel should slide right off. The last wheel I pulled off a Laguna 14 SUV bandsaw fought me tooth and nail. I eventually needed the largest wheel/bearing puller I could find along with my longest breaker bar to convince the wheel to grudgingly come off. Once I pressed the bearings out, cleaned the bore and the bearings and measured them, I found 15/1000" of difference between the two. Meaning, there was +15/1000" of interference between the bearing OD and the wheel ID.

    • @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
      @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023  Před 6 lety

      Thanks for the heads up. The wheel is fairly thin cast iron so any force would probably destroy it. At least there are 3 taps in the hub area that should fit my harmonic ballancer puller if there is an issue. They told me the new wheel will have the bearings pressed in so it should be a easy swap and that is what I am hoping for. I will make a video so we all can see what it takes. Thanks for watching.

    Nice video, great addition to your new saw. Those of us who work alone can easily figure out how to accomplish what you demonstrated while others would have assembled the base then had help lifting that heavy saw on top of it. Smart move leaving the saw on the base.

    Glad to hear laguna has made good on your problems. I ordered the grizzly g0513x2 ( i think thats the model #) today. Its going to be interesting to see what minor problems i have with it. I was torn between the laguna you have and the grizzly. They had a small sale on so it made my mind up for me. I also ordered that same mobile base. I know now how im going to put it together. Thank you

      @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023  Před 6 lety

      It would be nice if they packed the base a little better but it is a decent base for the price. The trunnion looks to be a easy fix on mine and the wheel definitely has a warp centered on the 1 spoke so hopefully that will solve the vibration issue. I think it is luck of the draw with these offshore machines. Hope you get a good one. Thanks for watching.

    Companies will say things like "No sale is final until the customer is satisfied" That's great that they stand behind their products, but I find it frustrating that you buy a 'quality' product and there are issues and then you have all the inconvenience of contacting the supplier, the shipping, the e:mails and especially the waiting before you get a tool that you are happy with and can actually use. They should have better quality control so that it's perfect right out of the box. After all you are paying for top notch gear, you want to get top notch gear.

    • @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
      @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023  Před 6 lety +3

      I feel the same as you but these lower price offshore machines can have problems. Laguna is working with the manufacturer to ensure this has not and does not happen on other machines. Both parts should have never made it on a machine but the reality is they did and parts have to be swapped out to fix it. It would be nice if they would assemble and test each machine before shipping but that would double the price. I think it will be a great saw once the bugs are worked out and Laguna says they will stick with me untill they are. Thanks for watching.

    • @mikedickson2925
      @mikedickson2925 Před 6 lety +1

      That's great!! Like I say, most companies will support their product and help you all that they can and sometimes even maybe provide you with more than you asked just to make sure you are a satisfied customer. However, this seems to be the way they prefer to do business. Send out their product and let the customers be the quality control. I bet that saw will be great. Looking forward to seeing what you make with it!!!

    Hillbilly - - You had some trouble with packaging/damage, but it looks like Grizzly has their quality control fixed now. I rec'd my Bear Crawl a couple of days ago. Everything was neatly wrapped and in place, no rust anywhere, no paint chips and it went together with ease. Looks like this product is a real bargain, considering its capacity and price point.

    • @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
      @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023  Před 5 lety

      They are a great bargain and work good. I purchased another one and the whole end was ripped off the box and taped back up when it arrived. The casters were missing and the finish damaged on that one. I had the ups lady note the damage. Grizzly sent the missing parts right out and filed a claim with ups. I think people at ups tear open Grizzly boxes on purpose to steal the parts that fall out because it happens with many boxes from grizzly. Thanks for watching.

  • @stormbytes
    @stormbytes Před 6 lety +1

    Just a follow up here. I'd love to know how you got this mobile base to fit. I checked p.10 of the manual for the Laguna 12/BX (110V). Under "Machine Dimensions" it has "base footprint" of 22 11/16" x 17 9/16". Grizzly's specifications for the "Bear Crawl Heavy Duty" mobile stand state it "Adjusts from 19" x 21" to 29-1/2" x 29-1/2"". Accordingly your band saw should be about an inch-and-half short of the narrowest adjustment on the mobile base. Did you trim the bars? I'd have no issue doing that if the MB assembled was an inch or so too wide for my saw. I don't think an inch is going to compromise stability.

    • @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
      @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023  Před 6 lety +1

      It fit my saw perfectly. My base is 20 x 27. They tell you to use a plywood insert for anything smaller to set the tool on and I would not reccomend cutting it down. Give Grizzly a call and see what they say.

    • @stormbytes
      @stormbytes Před 6 lety

      Confirm your saw is a Laguna 12/bx 110v model?

    • @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
      @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023  Před 6 lety

      It is a 18bx like the title says. The 12bx is much smaller.

    • @stormbytes
      @stormbytes Před 6 lety

      Okay that makes a lot more sense. I was reading specs for the 14bx. I guess the 18bx must have a slightly wider base. I'm gonna buy this base for my 1412. It has a base width of 18 1/8". The minimum width on the mobile base is 19" so theoretically I'll be about an inch too wide. I may just split the difference (you mentioned fat welds and a "gap all around") or trim the metal bars by an inch and half. I don't see that affecting the stability of the base.

    • @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
      @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023  Před 6 lety

      Like I said call Grizzly before cutting the bars to be sure it won't affect stability for your machine. It probably will fit without cutting or you could always drop in a 12 ga steel plate to set the saw on if the feet miss the welded in corners.

    lol - I ordered a bunch of Behlen's lacquer products from Grizzly a few years ago - I have never seen a shipment so completely trashed when I got it. Amazingly nothing leaked - but every single can was caved in and dented. I think Grizzly uses the slowest, cheapest shipping option UPS offers. I actually tried to file a claim with UPS, because the cans were compromised and I'm sure my shelf life is limited. In the end both Grizzly and UPS did nothing for me.

      I bought 10 sets of slides from them and just received a big almost empty box with a hole in the end and 1 set left. Luckily I was there and had UPS note the damage and missing parts so they were replaced. It was also caused by a poor packaging job. Even my joiner crate was completely trashed by ups freight caused because it was never put on a pallet. It only seems to happen with packages from Grizzly.
