- This video follows I-17 North, from Mile Marker 265 to Mile Marker 288. Includes footage of the dramatic descent, down into the Verde Valley, which features a 6% grade for 7 miles.
I've gone in to Phoenix that way and leaving doing truck driving, an experience I'll never forget. Especially at night.
Thank you that helps my broken heart I miss my home so very much. I know every rock and tree on I 17..
I miss home so much, what would have I done without you? Thanks for all of the videos!
That is by far the most beautiful drive! I've only had a chance to take it twice, but I plan on spending more time in AZ.
It's one of my favorite freeway drives in the western US. "Thrilling" wouldn't be a bad word to describe the entire stretch, featured in this video. Thanks for watching!
+Alex2001646 Never taken that one! Now I must!
What an awesome stretch of road! I had the privilege to drive it in the early dawn hours back in February while on my way home from Phoenix to Minneapolis. Stunning scenery.
Yeah, this is truly a thrill to drive. First time I drove this was back in 2010 and thought it was amazing stuff for a freeway grade.
Going here soon, and can't wait to show my family what we'll be seeing!!!! I love this place so much! Thanks for the Arizona videos!
Absolutely stunning and amazing! The scenery and descent on that stretch of I-17 is something to be experienced! I remember an old family trip I took to Arizona around 1999, but I didn't think much of it then. Thanks for bringing this to life, and awesome job on the visual signs!
Looks great to me. I'm really impressed with your work, Brent!
Haha....one of the best comments I've read. Well, I'm not here to compare myself to what else is available on CZcams or cable television, but I really do appreciate the kind words. Glad you enjoyed watching.
Very nice! Spectacular view coming down the grade into Verde Valley!
Most of southern Arizona is indeed a desert, and a harsh one at that. However, you may be pleasantly surprised that much of Northern Arizona is covered in dense pine forests...in fact, the area around Flagstaff contains the largest Ponderosa Pine forest in the world. It's definitely worth checking out!
Great video, as always! That's a pretty amazing landscape. And I love the new touch with the exit signs.
Again, another great video. Thanks for all the time and effort needed to make this, it was very enjoyable.
Great video. I'm glad I can say I went down that hill weighing about 75k or so, hauling lumber. It was great and hot!
Beautifully done as always. Thanks for sharing.
.. great video Brent - loved the arid nature of the landscape too - that is one long down hill run! Really interesting to see the 2 way switch as well! :)
One of my favorite drives. Fell in love with the area in the 70s as a kid watching Kingdom of the Spiders.😂
Now I drive it often.
Fantastic video as usual. I used to live in Arizona and this brings back the memories....hopefully one day soon I will be adding my driving trips to CZcams.
I drive on the highway almost everyday; it is so much fun to watch the video of fast driving and smooth road. Loved it..
Thank you very much! Arizona is always a pleasure to drive around.
Perfectly put together, nice graphics, well done
I ride a CBR 650F, been through here many o times
Excellent choice in music as well
Bravo
Hey Brent,
I got to say, that is one of the best videos I've saw. The desert
looks pretty out there
Welcome back! I enjoyed the riding through the valley. And I thought Arizona was nothing but a flat desert! The new signs are a nice touch, Thanks Brent!
Great video!! This is a neat stretch of freeway
Nice work with the video, good synching especially, liked the soundtrack too, thumbs up!
That's Great!! We're heading out that way in a few weeks, can't wait!! Thanks for sharing!!!
Fantastic video as usual. The inclusion of the guide signs is a definite plus.
Great footage and great music. You're definitively the best highway recorder on YT.
That always a pleasure to see "FreewayBrent has uploaded a new video".
Beatiful landscape, cool graphics...very, very nice video!
Man, it was AWESOME! You really have to get out there sometime; Northern Arizona is full of scenic treasures.
I had a fun time driving this on Saturday. Nice video.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed riding along.
Great work!
great footage, appropriate music, great video as usual
This is so beautiful! I remember traveling this road on the way to the Grand Canyon. Was coming from Tucson.
Tanya Bryan great drive June 2018
Amazing Tour and Landscape.
Glad you enjoyed...thanks for riding along!
Thanks man! I had a lot of fun working on this video over the course of Friday and Sunday. Next video promises to offer some truly breath-taking scenery.
Thank you so much! Much appreciated.
Fantastic, Brent. I am trying to get in to this( freeway videoing) but from a motorcycle perspective. Thanks for sharing this.
I bet, thanks for posting this video!!!
It's amazing, indeed. It's one of those "must-see" grades along the Interstate Highway System.
Thanks a lot! Totally appreciate reading comments like these.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed watching.
Awesome..thanks! Glad you enjoyed the ride.
Thank you!
i love the drive from new river to camp verde!!!
Thanks! The Southwest truly has some amazing areas to visit. You could drive for hours and hours and not see another living soul, depending on where you go.
Yes, it's been nearly 3 months. Figured it was time to finally release something new. Glad you enjoyed!
Glad you enjoyed! I have a lot more footage from around the state. Just a matter of (eventually) editing it all.
Love this!
Sedona and Flagstaff are both within half an hour of each other; definitely worth checking out both towns too.
Great..I'm really glad you enjoyed watching!
You made a great film nice job
You're welcome, and thanks for watching!
It's great to hear from you. Arizona continues to grow rapidly, and not just within the Phoenix metro area.
Glad you survived your crash, yikes! I usually try to leave at least a 3 second gap of space, when heading down that VERY LONG grade, and switch the transmission into D3, to avoid having to use the brakes. Ya just never know what could happen out there.
Thanks...glad you noticed the changes. It's a bit more work, but I think it makes the videos look even better. Thanks for watching!
Thanks, man! Would love to see you film this same stretch somebody.
Glad you enjoyed, thanks for watching!
It's awesome to see and drive it in person...I HIGHLY recommend it. :-)
Thanks! I Lovet it!
I couldn't seem to replicate the flag with the blue field in the opposite corner, so I finally decided on posting it as you saw in the video. Glad you enjoyed the ride!
Thanks! The comment is much appreciated.
I've driven Cabbage Hill once, heading down the grade. What a kick ass drive that is. Would love to get back out there and record it. I have some ideas for music on that one, as well.
Glad you enjoyed!
By bad sun angle, I'm assuming you meant the southbound ride? I think it was acceptable, considering that the focus was on the northbound ride. And yup, you're correct about the seasons...I filmed this during New Years Eve of last year.
Thanks! This is actually one of the longest videos I've done...most of them are somewhere between 4 and 7 minutes long. Believe it or not, I recorded this the first week of January in a 1992 Honda Accord. I've also recorded in a '95 Accord, '06 Corolla, '09 Corolla, '09 Camry and an '06 BMW 5 series.
Thanks, man! I actually do have footage of I-40 through Flagstaff on my hard drive...I don't plan on working on it for several more months, though. I plan on trying to release 1 video every 3 weeks from this point on, so we're probably looking at 5 - 7 videos down the line.
Cool dude, glad you enjoyed!
Thanks! Nope, same technology, just decided to implement some changes over the past few months. Should be coming out with another video in less than 2 weeks.
Thanks a lot! I think you could say the same thing about quite a number of Arizona's drivers; some of the fastest drivers in the country are to be found in Arizona.
Un hermoso lugar jamás pensé que iba a vivir por aquí cerquita Yo vivo en cottonwood Arizona s de Nuestro camino para ir a la ciudad de Phoenix amo este lugar por los últimos 30 años he vivido aquí
Great music, but the videos with Nadia Ali are my favorite since they add relaxation to your drive
I really hope that CZcams eventually allows true HD quality, as well as 60 frames per second uploads. I may attempt to actually upload this video onto my Facebook FreewayBrent fan page, to let users see it in its original quality. Much clearer than what you're seeing on CZcams. Anyway, thanks for watching! The next video will probably be from the San Francisco Bay Area.
Glad you enjoyed...it's nice reading comments like this. See ya on the road, next time!
You are right and Jim spent most of his highway video on the narrow Interstates of the Northeastern United States ex, I-95 in Providence,RI and Newark,NJ
Ahhh, cool. Yes, it's a bad ass drive. Would love to drive this a lot more often.
I was there during the 2012 Annular Eclipse. I live in Phoenix. :)
It's one hell of a drive up there.
It's a pretty interesting drive, at least in my opinion...the stack interchange at I-10 (the northwestern interchange) is very nicely engineered and pretty impressive. As for I-17 itself thru the city, it's definitely worth a drive, but only if you're into urban freeway design. It's also quite straight, so if the relative lack of curves will bore you, you may not find it to be the most interesting freeway.
The filming opportunities out here are endless!
Yes, the American West never ceases to amaze me. Thanks for watching!
Never been to Payson before. What exactly is there? I guess that means it's time to take another road trip, lol.
Cool ride.
The pavement looks so smooth in the beginning, the road deserves a higher speed limit than 75 mph.
Wish I could offer you advice on your idea, but I've never filmed from a motorcycle before, lol. Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed riding along with me in this video. Until next time...
I'm assuming you have footage of I-17 or I-40 in Flagstaff? Been wanting someone to post a Flagstaff video for quite some time now. Excellent video. You never fail to amaze me with your editing skills and the dedication you put in each of your videos!
I really like your work, Brent, because you have a way of communicating in your videos that is engaging and gives me a great heads-up of what is about to happen. I would like to know if your camera is attached to a suction cup type of attachment or what? Thanks for the vid!!!
Hello there. Some of the signs I actually create myself, while others, I download from 3rd party sites.
Thanks for watching!
P.S. - Someone made the layouts for me. :-D A gift to me.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the ride!
Interesting...I'd love to go check that out, indeed. Just "Streetviewed" the ride along AZ 87 on Google...looks REALLY interesting, and had no idea it was 4 lanes, all the way from Phoenix to Payson.
Must have been a VERY slow day. I remember that highway being packed almost all the time.
Funny you mention that...I do have some CA 20/CA 49 footage on file that I'd like to re-work sometime (my parents live by Grass Valley).
I'm waiting your next video. I remember when you used one of my favorite song on your video, that was...pleasurable (finished symphony remixed - hybrid).
I wish you use "I need you (gabriel & dresden) - dave gahan" one day but I love discovering new song on your videos. >.
I really wanted to do part of the I-17 where it meets the I-10 interchange but need some feedback
Really wanted to do this drive
How is i-17 South from Albuquerque to highway 10? Pulling a travel trailer and I'm trying to avoid steep grades and passes. Thanks. Doing the drive tomorrow.
Great video but Why not I-40 east from Barstow to the Arizona State line, but on it's eastern end in Wilmington, NC then tell freeway Jim might film the final miles of I-40 East
Arizona. Just a 1 hr/20 minute drive north of Phoenix.
Just read this comment. Thanks a lot!
I actually have my camcorder on a tripod, with the legs carefully positioned on the passenger floor, to minimize shaking.
I'm personally okay with the 75 MPH limit, given the amount of curves the roadway has. 80 MPH would be reasonable too, though.
