What harmony.God music and wonderful voices. Bach always allow us to fly away of the earth to a limbo where the real life problems are less heavy. Viva Bach and is music!!!
You haven't performed a number of famous cantatas I grew up listening to yet, but I am discovering wonderful arias I'd never heard (or never listened to) before; "Eile, Herz, voll Freudigkeit" -- sublime!
I see the comments on the use of an altus for the first aria. While not always enthusiastic about the use of an Altus, I was much impressed and moved by this particular performance, obviously not easy but the intensity and discipline made it to a wonderful performance. Bravo !!
This Bach's performance is incomparable and exquisite ! His singing voice is amazing and tremendous . My soul is in the profoundity of Bach . From chaotic Tokyo of the Land of the Rising Sun . Which are you watching this from ?
Magnifique! What a group of performers... (Nitpick: Bach was Cantor of the Thomasschule, not the church. He was employed by the city council, whom he described as 'odd and not much interested in music', and held no church appointment in Leipzig).
Paul Booth the fact is that Bach’s grave is in St Thomas church and he gave all his performances in this church while he was living in Leipzig. The museum of the St Thomas church presents Bach orchestra original instruments...
@@guylebras9880 In fact he divided his performances between St Thomas's and St Nicholas's, which was the more important of the two main churches. St Thomas's was, of course, his parish church, and so it is appropriate that he is buried there. He held no church office, though.
Many thanks for sharing this stunning performance. Everything fits well together on this fabulous orchestra. I personally do not like the sound of countertenors, rather prefer a warm and rich female Alto voice. But this is just my opinion and nothing against the person singing! Well done!

Sato provides a wonderful drive and indisputable skill to many of Bach’s works. For me the beautiful triplet-figured tenor aria loses a graceful dance, however, in this horse-whipped interpretation.
Oui, pourquoi ?
Very curious cantata with three arias in a row with no choir or recitativos (except within the unusual mix with the music in the bass aria)! the first aria comes across as frenetic more than fast, which I don't like. Blaze does a very good job despite the conduction, although he's a bit weak in the low notes. I don't mind the jumpy feeling of the tenor aria, instead -although I find it rather uninspiring despite its virtuosity.
Happy times in the new covenant where our faith takes Jesus Christ in its arms. What a joy in the last hour when the grave of our rest will be ready! Now, Lord, let Thy servant go in peace according Thy word. What terrifies men constitutes for us the entrance into life. Death, the end of this time and of its sufferings, is the pledge that the Lord gives us as a sign that He cares for us and that at the end of the fighting He wants to lead us to peace. And since the Saviour is now refreshments for our eyes there's no wonder if the heart forgets fear for death. He can exclaim with joy: "Because my eyes have seen Thy salvation prepared by Thee before all peoples!" Hurry up, heart, to approach the throne of grace filled with joy! You'll embrace your consolation and receive mercy, yes, in hard times, strengthened in spirit, pray persistenly. Yes, even if your faith still sees a lot of darkness, your Saviour can dispel the shadows of doubt; yes, when the darkness of the grave will render the last hour terrible, you will certainly recognize His shining light even in death. This is the salvation and the blessed light of the pagan people, to enlighten those who doesn't know Thee and give them nourishment. He is glory, honor, joy and delight of your people Israel.
Magnificent NBS; but why, once again and as elsewhere, does McLeod's voice seem dull, not very expressive, the German elocution imprecise and haphazard, and, as is often the case with the bass, the tone approximate? Yes why ?
That's the only thing I dislike about this, otherwise excellent, channel. Unnatural sounding high male voices very quickly become unbearably annoying. Just compare Widerstehe doch der Sunde from NBS with any good alto performance such as Majdan.
@@emfox6280 Agreed, unfortunately NBS has eliminated female altos altogether. Not sure why, if this was implemented in order to get as close as possible to the original, they should've employed boy soloists and choir. It's inconsistent and counterproductive. Hopefully, if the viewers of this channel complain enough it will change.

Ya.
10:36 Daniel makes me smile! The entire ensemble really enjoys this aria... it bounces!
"Eile, Herz, voll Freudigkeit" absolutely bounces -- I love the emphatic syncopation!
I love tenor´s smile when he sings (14.55)... Music must be bright, hapynnes and fresnesh... Bach would be proud of this performance. Thank you.
I totally agree with you!
I really like the happiness, passion and joy in this performance too!
@@luuktorn Thank you for posting. That´s very kind of you. Bach´s Music enchains the world. Greettings from Spain. :)
Speaking as a tenor, I would smile too, if I nailed all the notes like he did. Amazing voice and performance!

I became a great admirer of the cantatas, Maestro Sato and NBS.
Thanks for posting! Great violinist
Thanks so much for bringing us this wonderful cantata NBS ❤️❤️❤️

This cantata is an obscure gem
Wunderbar, krásné, vielen Dank
Beautiful🎶
Magic! Bach must have had some superb soloists (voice and instrument, especially the horns) at his disposal to produce such a delicious mix!
Beautiful.
Hermosa música, que inspira mucha paz, un saludo de MZA.Argentina.
Beautiful!!
Wonderful.
How can all not be right with the world when such beauty is possible. We are blessed. Thankyou all.

Mamalón ;v
Is his pronunciation of "Zeit" a historical one? It is not how the word is pronounced in modern German

Well said of you... "unbearable annoying" lol... Definitely would feel great to hear some altos now.
Couldn’t disagree more; listening to Majdan doing this would be a penance for me! Tastes change!
Please stop with the countertenors. Ruins it for me.
