Look how healthy he looked here compared to his last game with Forest. One of a kind was Clough. My dad tells a story of when he was a young footballer in the Nottinghamshire area in the 80’s. He got injured and went to the city ground to see the physiotherapist (dad’s mate). He was sat waiting in a corridor and Clough is walking down the corridor towards him. Green jumper, short white shorts and a squash racket in hand. Looks at my dad and says “Good morning, young man. Cup of tea?” He replies “Yes please” Clough then says with a big smirk “No, I meant get off your arse and make me one!!” Clough walks off, reappears a minute later with a cuppa for my dad. What a character.

I remember that his family owned a newsagents in West Bridgford in the 80s. I must’ve been 7 or 8 at the time and went in the shop one afternoon with my mother. Guess who was sat behind the counter!? He requested a handshake so I offered my left hand. His reply was “that’s a tramps handshake, son” and proceeded to shake my right hand. I was an easily intimidated, wimpy kid but I remember the kind ,warm vibes Brian was giving off and I felt at total ease with him. He had a massive heart. Michael Smitten accountants are always meddling in affairs of business hey know nothing about. I worked with one for years and he was always poking his nose in and in meetings would come out with some of the most embarrassing suggestions in front of high calibration people. I would never work with an accountant again.

My mate Al met Clough a few times. On Friday night they would stay at Lea Green a Derbyshire sports Centre, away from the press.
Kevin Hector went to the local pub The Jug and Glass to buy a bag of crisps. When Clough found out he humiliated Kev and told him to fuck off , your not playing tomorrow. True story. Loved the bloke

In the same time that Mourinho was taking an already winning, well-paid-for team and winning a league, Cloughie was taking a team from the second division and winning two European Cups (back when ONLY champions could ever enter it, not top 4)!!
    Unbelievable what he achieved!!
