  • The 120D has a lot of engine problems if you dont take care of her, but if you make keep the engine clean and fix all of the problems you will get thousands of miles out of her.

    solution for all this problems? (yes, even for timing chain in some degree)
    - Use premium oil, premium diesel.
    - Do anual maintenance (oil & filters)
    - Do preemtive maintenance (100k km, 150k km, 200k km)
    - use fuel and turbo additives (to clear carbon from turbo geometry and from injectors)

    Thanks for the video, I’m just about to buy a 2011 120d and this video has given me a better understanding of what to look for , my previous 320d never gave me issues since 2012 - 2018 and when I sold it , I regretted it hence me finally wanting to get a modernised 120d now. Thanks a lot.

    A lot of these chain issues were likely due to terrible oil change intervals for fleet buyers to skimp servicing costs. If you buy one of these cars forget any car that has only had services at 15-20,000 mile intervals. Cared for cars that have had traditional 6,7,8,000 mile oil changes should be sought out or your playing Russian roulette. If you don’t see that in the service book demand massive price discounts or walk away period. These cars have terrible reliability reputations so you shouldn’t be paying a premium just because of a BMW badge- it isn’t relevant in the 4 cylinder engines at all.

    Did you encounter any problems with the torque converter not locking up after removing the egr from the software? I recently did my water pump and now it takes forever for the car to warm up. With the egr disconnected it takes even longer. Like 10mins of driving before the gears bite.

    • @ChrisVSCars
      @ChrisVSCars  Před 3 lety

      Nope we have zero problems, gear slippage on the torque converters sometimes happen because of old megatronic sleves.
      I had a problem like that on my 335i. I made a video on that as well.
      But our 120d runs perfectly🤘

    Main issue is these cars don’t get serviced enough and DPF’s do have a life expectancy so obviously if the exhaust air can’t get through the DPF then it’ll get recirculated through the EGR and then you have an EGR issue
