Debbie & Chris from Blondie appear on BBC TV's Swap Shop. [I always thought they were appearing on the program especially for me as the 22 December is my birthday].
Everything about her is stunning. Not just the looks The facial "mannerisms" the intangible little things that it is hard to describe but so enchanting.
Debbie would be just great with those beautiful eyes, but she's got those lips, those cheekbones, that hair, that cute nose and she's so nice ... what a bombshell!
She was adopted, but never sought her birth parents, she said that would be disrespectful to the Harry's. That takes self assurance, I really admire her attitude.
Yup, despite being tired Debbie kept polite and composed, but then she's probably had a lifetime's experience of fending off creeps like Edmonds. Chris also showed he was smarter and funnier than Edmonds, despite being patronised by their host.
Debbie's beauty is just so sublime, her face isn't just simply pretty but there's a sweetness to it.I don't really know how to explain it. She's ethereal to me.
@@brianmorecombe2726 No harm intended in my comment Brian, it was just a joke as I wrote LOL in the end. The "read between the lines" bit was me referring to the fact that I was clearly talking about Debbie in THIS clip when she was young. I think "most" people would have easily understood that I was talking about Debbie's beauty at her peak and not now. But anyways no need to take this seriously bud.
Chris and Debbie act with such good grace and humour in this clip, faced with so many inane & insensitive comments from a presenter (Noel Edmonds) who I thought at the time was always really annoying. And then the BBC / Jimmy Saville fawning lowers the tone even further. Makes my skin crawl. These two artists together crafted some of the most perfect pop songs in history and this is how we treated them. The UK owes them a huge apology.
Looking back on Debbie Blondie clips now I realise how ahead of the track she really was. Beauty yes, but so cool, composed and regal and never embarrassing to the teenagers still within us
the women in music today look like they spend days in hair and makeup, debbie always looked like she just rolled out of bed, and is more beautiful than any of them ,that said she was and is much more than a beautiful face ,she also wrote lyrics ,and is one of the most charismatic persons to front a group either male or female ,she has the same kind of magic that bowie had , and annie lennox has truly a rare gift
Funny you should say that ,as my mum has a friend who was on Deal or no Deal (she won) .My mum asked her what Noel was like ,and she replied ,if he takes to you ,you`re fine ,if he doesn`t ,he shows it.
@@Joy-qw3wm Don't think that is the case here though.. Just Edmonds coming off as an obnoxious twat generally without necessarily having it in for either of them at the same time
Thank you Chris for showing this clip. It was so wonderful to relive this moment. I remember watching this as a kid back in '79. It would of been an exciting time for a kid being so close to Christmas. There is an awkward moment watching it back knowing what we know now about Mr Saville. I think Noel had a little too much self-confidence which did reflect on his interview technic. Still a hero to me though.
Noel is particularly rude here, and she has him totally sussed. Chris is irritated, but he hasn't sussed his interviewee out yet.. "My relationship to the studio and the engineers was very direct"...Love it
I was 9 years old then and remember seeing Blondie perform 'Heart Of Glass' on TV, when I suddenly realised there was 'something more' about girls, instead of just being silly and annoying x-))
I love the kids in this clip. Little Paulette Baker sounds like a 52 year old on 40 fags a day, then there’s the boy who asks about “competitive sports” and especially dear Louise who seems preoccupied by the subject of nerves but is utterly charming. I was 10 and we’d just come to the end of the best year of pop music I’ll ever know, and we all stood on the brink of a new decade that would transform the UK. And then there are little frozen moments like this one to hold up to the light all these years later. 1979, I know you’re out there somewhere and I send greetings from 2024! Wish you were here.❤
In some regards this all happened at a great time for her, well into her 30s, a seasoned vet, beyond the kind of exploitation a girls 20 years her junior might've endured, she'd met a thousand Noels by this point too so these kind of 'gigs' were a breeze, she knew what kids expected of her and delivered with grace
She started as a Playboy Bunny! That applies to her! And I love Edie Sedwick i.e., who was before her time, and there was no biggest case of Exploitation! Blondie were in the scene with Andy Warhol! He was an exploiter! But Debbie made something Great, what did Edie, but posing, doing drugs and being confused???! with all due respect to Edie! She could have been as great as any other person! The blame is on Andy and her own Family, and the world that works that way! in that case, and you're right, that is wrong! but... Debbie chose to not be exploited! She went through that... you only know her already famous!

The kids calling in back then sound more mature and well spoken than 90% of adults today.

That's odd, because the kids back then are the adults of today! 😂
@@iamyourfuture808 This interview would have been much improved by chucking a bucket of water over them.

Danielwatt also THE perfect smile and gentle manner .
She is so nice to the callers and they are so sweet and childlike sounding....oh I remember being 11 and into Blondie. Now I'm 50 and into Blondie.
Deborah Harry was always a sweetie. She never had that arrogant snark that some artists believe they should have.
Blondie is the greatest.
Their live shows were really fun. These callers seem so young!
She was adopted, but never sought her birth parents, she said that would be disrespectful to the Harry's. That takes self assurance, I really admire her attitude.
This is wild. The callers are all so nice & polite.
Nowadays sucks.
Debbie Harry, a woman with beauty, class and a degree of humility. And definitely the woman Madonna desperately wants to be, even today!
