    A lot of you asked what I would change about my undergrad degree ...😅⤵️
    I wish I knew about Physician Assistants before I started college (I found out about that career path towards the end of undergrad). Otherwise, I would have worked toward a PA degree (ideally a BS+MS program) and then my ND degree. I could have applied to a PA program (MS only) after undergrad, but at the time, I felt rushed to go straight to naturopathic medical school (pressure put on myself by myself). Don't get me wrong though, my degree was still great (Health and Wellness), and I took pre-med classes outside of my degree program and volunteered to help with research. But I wish I had a stronger background/more experience in the medical field before ND school, and I feel like a PA degree would have been a good option for me to pursue.

      I definitely feel like I don’t have any medical experience yet, but I was planning to go straight to ND school after finishing a BS in Bio. Would you suggest maybe getting a certification in something medical first for some experience?

    • @TalkNaturalToMe
      @TalkNaturalToMe  Před 4 lety +4

      You can totally survive ND school without prior medical experience! This was just a personal preference of mine 😊 So it's up to you and how you feel.

    • @TalkNaturalToMe

      A degree in Biomechanics sounds awesome! Honestly, it doesn't matter which degree you choose as long as you complete the pre-requisite coursework required for admission into an accredited naturopathic medical school. If you resonate more with Biomechanics, then go with that.👌

    I can’t believe how many people are against naturopathy. MD's have always let me down and a professional in the studies of cancer was the reason why my mother is gone. I studied into natural cancer treatments and while my mom was on them her cancer didn’t spread. She then turned to the doc instead of me, got her shot of chemo, and passed away 2 weeks or so later. She was 40. I’m going to become a naturopath to try and change other people’s lives.

I found you that way. Through your videos and social media I understand now that it’s not only not “quackery” but it’s actually SO IMPORTANT in the field of medicine. I’ve recommended seeing NDs to friends and family. Just thought I’d share maybe it would make you smile!

    Hello! Thank you for this video.
    About two years ago I was in my junior year of high school when I was contemplating on my career path. I have always been intrigued by medicine but have my opinions about Big Pharma. I then began my research of functional medicine and came across Naturopathic Medicine and your channel. I remember I DM'd you (maybe you don't recall since it was about two years ago lol) and asked if you recommend any undergrad degree, and mentioned that it did not really matter, only to complete pre-reqs. In your video you mentioned one thing you would change from your journey would be your undergrad degree, and I would like to know more about your thoughts and why!
    I am now a freshman in college and am majoring in Biomedical Science. I am still in the fence about either pursuing medical or naturopathic school based on how society criticizes holistic medicine. However, I strongly believe in naturopathic medicine and would love to practice it some way or the other. Either by attending ND school and becoming an ND or attending MD but completing some licenses, like mentioned in your video!
    I really hope naturopathic medicine is more well accepted in our society in the next couple of years.
    I would also like to ask. if there is anything you would recommend for me to do/complete during my undergrad years, such as volunteering, research or internships involving holistic medicine.
    Sorry for the long comment lol, I am just a really curious freshman that is interested in naturopathic medicine but is a little lost.
    Again, Thank you!

      Hi Monica! Wow, you're so young ahh! 🙊 So much to look forward to in the years to come. You still have time to make a decision. A lot can change in 2 years with the naturopathic medical profession. In the meantime, focus on a pre-med track and getting all the pre-requisites done for medical school (MD/DO/ND - all fairly similar). Either career path you decide to pursue will be great. Definitely get involved volunteering/researching/doing an internship (I would do conventional over integrative. If you really want to volunteer at a holistic or integrative medical practice, do that in addition to doing work with conventional docs). Also, I pinned a comment talking about my undergrad degree at the top 😘 Best of luck on your journey!💓

    I’ve been on the fence for deciding to go to ND school because of the negativity behind this type of medicine. But I love natural products and what they stand for so I decided this year to work towards getting into an ND school and lucky for me there is one in Arizona so it works out perfectly! If all goes well, I’ll be in an ND medical school next year! Thank you for your content, you make me feel a little more at ease with this decision and I’m glad it wasn’t only me feeling doubt about potential choosing this route ☺️ though they may get backlash, I know that this is the field for me because we will have to fight together and grow together to get it legal to fight in all 50 states ☺️ thanks again you’re amazing!

      Hey Ariel! Have you looked into becoming a functional health or nutrition coach? Check out these programs: functionalmedicinecoaching.org/ and www.mindbodygreen.com/classes/functional-nutrition-coaching.
      And in regards to the schooling process - yes it takes a long time, especially if you want to become a naturopathic doctor...but the years will pass regardless of whether you are studying to become an ND or doing something else!

      Hi Ivelisse. I think it depends on what you want to do. If you want to practice as a general wellness consultant then it would work. But if you want to practice medicine as a licensed Naturopathic Doctor (treat, diagnose, prescribe medications if needed, perform physical exams, and order diagnostic labwork) then you would need to attend one of the accredited naturopathic medical schools in North America. aanmc.org/

    I have been home with my kids for 14 years and just now got back into school. I’m a Spanish teacher, but my passion is healthcare. The actual healthcare lol. I’m looking into becoming an iridologist and am wanting to obtain my BA in science so I can apply to the National University of Health Sciences for my ND. Literally the only concern I have is being vaccinated. I’m not interested in any of that. Do you have any advice for me?

    • @TalkNaturalToMe
      @TalkNaturalToMe  Před 3 lety

      Hi Tiffany! Is being vaccinated a requirement for going back to school to obtain your Bachelor's degree? This is a tough question that only you can answer. If it's a requirement then I'm really not sure what else there is to do if you really want to go back to school and pursue a naturopathic medicine degree...

      PA - but I'm really ambitious and love to challenge myself (I just didn't have time to switch last minute and wanted to go to med school asap). But don't get me wrong - I absolutely loved my Health & Wellness program. Go with anything you're called to do (as long as you complete the pre-requisite coursework for whatever accredited naturopathic medical school you're interested in attending).

    • @TalkNaturalToMe
      @TalkNaturalToMe  Před 4 lety +1

      I think it depends on what you want to do. Do you want to do more research or clinical? Naturopathic medicine can definitely help with things like allergies, asthma, autoimmune diseases, and certain immunodeficiency disorders - so either ND or MD would be a good choice. If you're leaning towards research or primarily treating/managing immunodeficieny disorders then MD would probably be the better route.

    • @TalkNaturalToMe
      @TalkNaturalToMe  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Leverne,
      Here is a great definition from the AANP:
      "Naturopathic medicine is a distinct primary health care profession, emphasizing prevention, treatment, and optimal health through the use of therapeutic methods and substances that encourage individuals’ inherent self-healing process. The practice of naturopathic medicine includes modern and traditional, scientific, and empirical methods."

    means *you can* practice (freely!) not you can’t 🙄

      If you're practicing freely in an unlicensed state as a Naturopathic Doctor, including treating/diagnosing/performing physical exams, then you are practicing medicine illegally. But you can see clients (not patients) as a naturopath and work as a wellness consultant.
