This is very touching song to me because in this song with name of Maragathavalli which ambal in perur temple near Coimbatore. If any carnatic singers visit coimbatore dont forgot to visit this temple. They can also sing this song in ambal sannithi. Swami in this temple is Patteeswarar. This temple has a greatness equal and above to Chidamparam and called as Melai chidamparam. The natarajar mandapam and the sculptures in this mandapam should be watched once in a life time.

Karnaranjani ...Its classified as a janyam of 22 Melakartha ragam- Kharaharapriya and its unique identifier phrase is “SRGMGP”. Hence the scale is:Aarohanam: S R2 G2 M1 G2 P D2 S /Avarohanam: S N2 D2 P M1 G2 R2 S....devoid of Nishadam !!! Its name signifies - ‘karna’ means ear and ‘ranjagam’ means pleasant sounding. The ragam was a creation of Harikesanallur Muthiah Bagavathar. For a relatively newer ragam it has grown to be one with few but all popular compositions. This one- 'Vanchathonuna vagaludhelpavey Amba " composed by Harikesanallur Muthiah Bagavathar should be the first known composition in this ragam; and the chitta swara giving a complete picture about the ragam through its patterns. Other popular krities are....-"Om Namo Narayana" by Ambujam Krishna ( however the song has been set to tune by Charumathi Ramachandran; the charanam ends in a kanta-nadai madhyama kalam (faster singing) ; "Deena Sharanyane" by Nila Ramamurthi, daughter of Papanasam Sivan & Thillana in Karnaranjani by Lalgudi Jayaraman . I have heard about/listened once, think so the Thillana composed by Sri Devanathan in Karnaranjani on Lord Dhanwanthari.
I must say here about a class rendition I listened in this ragam.."Naamam Annathu Kel Om Namo Narayanaya" - a pasuram of of Periyazhwar ( in Maestro Madurai TNS's concert/ January 2001 on Vaikunta Ekadesi day.

The interaction of two voices is both skillful and sweet. Seldom do we hear such vocal music. Wonder why Hindustani vocalists don't pick up some strains of such Carnatic music and bring in some variation, liveliness and colour.
