    I got chatting to a guy on holiday with his Mrs in Poole and they had travelled down from Rugby on theirs. He had a really positive opinion of the machine as a two-up tourer, with the caviat that "but I wouldn't want to do prolonged miles on the motorway on it two-up". "An A road cruiser" was another term he used. I love the look of them, and at the price they are available at I reckon these are a bargain...just need a larger garage...

    I got mine, new, 3wks ago so I got a LOTTA running-in to do. But, it's lovely - like a faithful, fat Labrador. Rode the 42mi home, from dealership - I hadn't ridden for 37yrs but, it's NOT heavy, it's NOT uncultured or thrown together & it had sufficient 'poke' as I nursed it home. I LOVE the foot position, too. No rev counter is a bummer & the trip doesn't have a good rep' but, I fuckin' love it. It looks cool.

    Man this bike looks the nuts, would love to have a go on one of these.
    The leg position looks very natural, something that a lot of similar bikes take too far forward so that’s good to see.
    It definitely needs a screen, even if it’s only a small one, however like you said I suppose it’s built more for the single carriageways rather than a motorway 🤘
    The bike really suits you mate, ever consider getting one?
    240kg? Wow that has surprised me, it doesn’t look that heavy at all.

I've got the 350 meteor, I did consider the 650 but find the 350 does everything I want , 1000 mile tour is no problem ( just toured Cornwall and Devon ), but obviously the 350 cruising speed is 55 ( or 60 of you regear like I have ) . I suspect for two up touring you would be better served by the 650. Amazing bikes not just for the price but really offering character no other manufactur can 👍👍 outstanding

    Great review, thanks Steve. A few have "upgraded" from the Meteor 350 - according to my local dealer who has their old bikes in stock 2nd hand. But you're right regarding the thumping single vs the parallel twin - it's a completely different experience. This might be the same situation which faces the Classic 650 when it arrives. I found the rear shocks surprisingly firm too - even two up. The forward controls were a bit of a stretch for me. Hopefully, there'll be an aftermarket (or RE) kit soon to bring them to the mid position. Overall quality is exceptional for the price as you say.

    The rear suspension is a point of common comment on RE bikes the 350 meteor was know to be a bit hard and harsh, which makes me wonder if they are made that way for the very bad India roads and tracks, I changed my meteor 350 for the endurance shocks, which improved the ride 20-30 %

    You could be right on the upgrade from the 350, but to be honest I think that the cost is too much to make it worth it, given the price of the 350 meteor, you could literally buy two 350's for the price of the super meteor, so is it worth twice the price, certainly some will switch, but it's a heart over head choice 😊

  • @economicalrides
    @economicalrides Před rokem +1

    Nice review Exmouth and I think you got the pertinent points spot on !
    Anybody thinking that this is just a bigger Meteor 350 needs to have a rethink. It's a completely different bike, the only similarity being that both bikes are "cruisers" in style.
    The character of the twin engine is completely different. The ergonomics are completely different. Maybe you can say that both bikes are friendly and easy to get comfortable with.
    But I actually think it would be harder for a Meteor 350 owner to fall in love with the Super Meteor than it would be for somebody who chose the Super Meteor having never ridden the Meteor before. For me it is clearly a well conceived, capable motorcycle but it really didn't have the x-factor that the 350 Meteor does.
    I think that probably way less Meteor 350 owners will upgrade than we perhaps all imagined when the Super Meteor was announced.
    I was surprised when I tried it and found practically nothing of the Meteor's DNA in it.

      Going from the Meteor to the Super Meteor will not be an intuitive switch. You will have to get used to a completely different feeling, mainly due to the ergos but also the character of the twin cylinder engine.
      To be honest, I am not hearing of too many of my Meteor owners making the switch. I was expecting half of them to make the upgrade but so far barely a handful !

    Let's be right, the rear suspension is rock hard; I've ridden smoother rigids. It may well be it will start to soften up after a few miles (my Interceptor did). Would it stop me buying one, hell no, loved my test ride, and changing the shocks wouldn't cost an arm and a leg. I think you'll find the mudguards are steel. Not sure about the forward controls, I think I would prefer mids. Not sure about the mapping, it's not as smooth off the idle as the Interceptor.

    Nicely done review again E.R. Re: the rear suspension (i'm not design engineer and im probably spouting a load of rubbish) But, the rear shocker is precisely lined up with the rider's coccyx and spine thus sending the shock right up the rider's back, meanwhile the feet are forward so all the riders weight is on that tailbone....... Don't shoot me, just thinking aloud.... 🤔😇

    good review , rear shocks on a lot of bikes are often the cheap weak link in the price build of a bike ;; am sure this can be upgraded ,, all though i like cruisers - this bike needs the pegs moved to a more mid mount placing for the uk market - which will also take away some of the rear shock jaring as the rider will have more support from the centralised placement of the leg position , if i were the importer i would pursue this mod with some urgency ;;

    A nice honest review of a good looking bike. Although Meteor 350 owners might enjoy the bit of extra poke and more mile munching capability, while it's style catches my eye it's power to weight ratio still seems lacking to me. Though perhaps I haven't quite reached the age or reduced stamina levels to appreciate such bikes for what they are. As an owner of both a ZZR 1400 and a Rocket 3 GT everything else is going to be tame in comparison.

      A point about quality of materials, RE engines need valve checks every 3000 miles yet a Honda engine with screw and locknut adjusters is about 4 times that.

    • @blearyview2254
      @blearyview2254 Před rokem +2

      @@mikehurley5052 More and more of the Honda engines are mixed with screw and locknut on inlet and shims on outlet (or the other way around because I cannot remember 😁). It probably worth mentioning that it is easy access to the valves on the RE while my NT1100 needs a major strip down to access the screw and shim adjustment so if you get a dealer to carry out the work the cost at the end of the day will be very similar. I suppose each manufacturer has pros and cons, regardless of perceived merits of quality, but there is no doubt RE provide terrific value for money.
