    And as you know the new 3350 has a blinking light on the inside of the hood that tells the wearer that the lens is in grinding mode when blinking. Helps you avoid flashing yourself as long as you realize the blinking light means your in grinding mode. Of course I miss that clue once in a while and just call myself stupid for screwing up my eyes. Good hood for old eyes.

    Here's some new information on the 3350, as of Dec, 2019.
    3350 is the general "model name" of the full range of these helmets - slightly different designs, graphics, etc... I'm pretty sure that the one reviewed here is part number K3034-3 - partly from the lack of the grind button on the outside, and partly from the glossy black finish.
    There's now another plain-black helmet in the 3350 series, numbered as the K3034-4. This one has a matte-black finish, and I'm pretty sure it's a newer model because it has (a) an external "grind" button, which is big enough to find and operate that I can switch from grind to weld modes with the helmet down and gloves on, (b) the interior LED flashes a few times quickly when you switch modes, so you know you held the button down long enough to switch, and (c) once you're in grind mode, that LED flashes one quick flash every few seconds, just enough so you can see it out of the corner (or bottom, actually...) of your field of vision, so you can tell it's in that mode. I find the flashing to be enough to keep me aware that I'm in grind mode so I don't forget and flash myself, but out of the way enough, and not so "flashy" as to be distracting.
    These improvements do a good job of addressing the issues you mentioned (which are absolutely valid ones...) I had done my research, so when I called up a local welding shop, I asked if they had it in stock by the model number "K3034-4", specifically checking for the -4 suffix.
    You can get them a bit cheaper on Amazon, but it was still under $300, and I like to support my local shop (and I wanted it for use that night!) But if you do use Amazon, and you search for , you might see both the shiny black and flat black ones. Look in the listings for the "K3034-3" or "K3034-4" numbers to be sure. Sometimes it's in the title, sometimes you have to look further down the listing into the details.
    I'm not associated with Lincoln or anyone/anything that sells welding stuff - just an additional independent piece of information to add to the review and hopefully help someone out. I really like this helmet, and I find the external grind button and the flashing LED to be very useful.

      Thank you for that most excellent post. Having an external glove friendly grind button is an awesome feature. I’d actually prefer a weld, cut, grind mode, and the rest of the controls on the outside as my eyes have trouble seeing little dials inside the helmet when in marginal light.

    Thanks! I'm using cheap hoods. They have True Color, but I feel like I'm missing something.
    I saw the 5th generation of the 3350 at the Bakers Gas website. It has a battery powered 95 lumen LED light above the lens--adjustments went digital and it now allows adjustments via phone app--Grind button on the left side of the hood with a flashing LED inside so the wearer knows the setting. Five year warranty, too. I like all that.
    Cheers. Jeff

    Easily the best review of the 3350 I've found. Baker did at least two and never showed us what it looked like through the lens. Excellent point about grind mode, too, even if it has been remedied since. Well done!

    The new 3350 has the grind button on the outside. I am definitely going to get this helmet. When I grind, I remove the helmet and use a half shield. You can easily unplug the grind function on the helmet so no worry about flashing yourself. I am a hobbyist so no worry about time.

The optrel is really nice but after replacing headgear it always fall down and i have to buy the inner and outer lenses. Lincoln is one of the brands that my employer provides free lenses for. Good review, i think I'm sold on one of these.

  • @lifetrekfinancialgroup4468

    Hi there, I am just wondering if your 3350 welding helmet is still working well for you? Mine started to eat batteries like crazy after about 3 years and I know a lot of other have had the same problem. This is very frustrating considering how much these things cost! The helmet's electronics are not serviceable either. It seem like they are designed to die shortly after the warranty runs out. I have used a hot Exacto knife to carefully gain access to the inside of mine and will try some testing to see if I can locate and replace the component that has gone bad. If I am successful I will share with the welding community how to do that.

    What do you set all your dials at? Occasional welder. Did you ever change the batteries?

    • @farmertylerranch4399
      @farmertylerranch4399  Před 5 lety +3

      Shade is personal preference. For mig welding I set it at 12 but most people probably do 10. Start at 12 and see what you think. Then try 11, then 10. I wouldn’t go lower than 10 for your eyes sake!
      “Sensitivity” is basically how much light it takes to trigger the hood. Dial position depends on where you’re welding. If you’re in a shop turn it all the way up. If you’re outside in the sun turn it down until the sunshine no longer triggers the hood to darken. For me that’s usually right above “grind” mode.
      “Delay” is how long the hood stays dark after you stop welding. Start with the dial in the middle and that should be pretty good. After you use it for awhile make adjustments as you prefer
      Haven’t changed a battery on this hood yet but have done it on others. With occasional use battery should last 1-2 years
      I hope that answers your questions! Thanks for watching

    • @TYMWLTL
      @TYMWLTL Před 4 lety +1

      When the battery starts to wane the helmet acts up. Goes to light while welding. Not good. Check the battery indicator test before use and during a long day of welding. Batteries are cheap, eyes are precious.
