I admire how keep this information interesting. My interest in deer hunting starts to elevate around this time of year. I enjoy watching the videos.
Thanks Nathan
That's great to hear Nathan...you and a lot of other folks!
Just put in a 40gal with a float valve to 500gal of storage I’m excited to see how long it lasts
I have a T-shirt idea
Bottom Line is
Gotta make one with that phrase 👌🏼
I can’t say enough good things about water holes, shot my deer last year over a water hole just like this!! Well done Jeff!!
And he was HUGE Brian!! Loved it 😊
Nice info. I have used these tanks to water cattle, same problem, not close to electric so I dug a post hole about 12 inches in diameter and about 4 to five foot deep straight down then installed a 12 inch pipe and made it where it meets the bottom of the tank, similar to a geothermo system of heating . Doesn't keep it from freezing when it gets really cold but does seem to keep water from freezing sooner in the year. Might try that, might help. I am around north central KY.
Thanks Jeff!
You are welcome Isaac!
Good idea, lot of work though I’m a one man crew so my my pond will have to do. Thanks Jeff
Oh boy...lots of work! Seems to go up terribly in hours worked relative to size
Jeff, what do you do with your water tanks during Winter? Keep them filled or do you need to empty them before they freeze hard? Thank you
Do have any tips for creek bottom hunting? Currently trying to add cover to a 60 acre piece in Buffalo county
I'm also really curious as to your setup to heat the water holes in the winter months!
Hi Jordan! It involves elec and a cattle tank heater 😊
What are you using to keep open in the winter???? I want to keep mine open too!!
How small of diameter trees have you put a treestand in? Our current treestand tree got blown over during the storm so the trees around it are like 8-9 inches in diameter
Hi Drew.. I use that 8 to 9" size tree all the time! Mostly red cedars, hard maple or oak...
Anybody have any tips on how to fill a water hole that’s about 1/2-3/4 mile deep in the woods, when you don’t have access to a ATV or the like? Best I can think of is filling up a 40gallon water bladder and making multiple trips with either the bladder stuffed in a ruck, or with a wheelbarrow. Anyone do anything similar?
Hi Taylor! A frame pack and water container works well! In that case ingo with the 110 gallon tank from TSC. It's about $80, and is 22" high. I then only full 1/3 way and hope for rain. I add more soil in the bottom too
Hey Jeff I got a river running through the middle of my property we float it with kayaks in the summer but do you have anything for that I got so many spots that deer go to the river and drink
Hi Gaige, it just really depends on if the deer are traveling from dry bedding to food or bedding somewhere else. Then they will hit the water you provide.
Does it matter why color your tanks are? At our local farm and country store they have large 1000 gallon tanks but they are blue. All the ones I have now are black. So if you have a blue tank underground would that be ok?
Hi Beau! I don know why, but I always shade towards black and brown if they had them. Something that blends. I don't think it would matter? But you never know. If something appeared like a block of white or light gray on the ground I wonder but have no experience to know otherwise...
How many yards to place water from a feeder where a you have deer coming to in between feeder and bedding area going to feeder
Hi Kara! I like to look for a funnel of some kind...but far enough away that you can take advantage of diff rent access routes and not spook deer from the food source. Maybe even a slightly different wind direction.
Can water go bad in 50 gallon tanks if coon stay in it alot getting it dirty and lots of warm weather. Or should a guy change it out off and on?
Hi Tom! I like taking it out in the Spring/Summer...sticks, leaves, etc. Outside of that they begin to do very well in the Fall every year
probably too late for anyone to read this but I found a dead fawn in one of my 110 gal tank waterholes this year. critter stick didnt help the poor little thing?
That really sucks Rick...feel bad for the little guy!
First season with a water hole. They don’t seem to mind the dirty water. What about all the mosquito larvae growing in it? Should I treat it with anything?
Hi Nick, they are a lot of fun! I wouldn't treat it in any way. Natural is always best!
I have 47 acres on a river, about 500 yards is water front so it’s more rectangle shaped. How would you approach a water hole position? Or would you plan to work around the natural source?
Hi Adam I would certainly add water away from the water that is natural!
Good stuff
I was wondering the same thing. No shortage of water around me not sure id have any luck with your approach maybe I’m wrong but why would a deer drink from a stagnant scummy take vs a drink fed pond or brook?
I found a free coy pond on the road. Its 7 by 5 feet and about 2 deep. Is that worth the dig time with a shovel to put in the ground?
I've already got a 100 gallon tank in the spot where I would put it . Thanks to you and all your videos I have learned alot over the years.
Hi Pat! I like that size...doesn't sound too bad! Having a 100 there already will help save some digging too.
I'm signed up for the Camp Kicking Bear event. Will there be an email sent out with some additional details or anything?
Hi Jordan that is great! Here are a lot more details...

Also Jessi will send you out directions to my house too 😊
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 great! Thanks Jeff! See you then!
hey Jeff, what happened to Venti? Did you end up getting him?
No one of Jeff's neighbors shot him.
Use 150 gal rubber made...with 1500 gal tank on top of hill gravity the water thru a rubber made water float..works great
Hey Jeff. What happened to the podcasts?
Hi Brian...TIME 😊 We actually plan to record one today for tonight.
