should you buy the shoes half a size to a size to small to make them fit better

You definitely can if you want to, but you might feel some rubbing on your pinky toe. That's just my experience

They all come with the same lace length! You might need to spread apart your shoes more

Am I missing something here? Is this for real? People need a tutorial for this? You didn't even need to relace them. You could have just loosened them up!
By the way, "race laced" is the way to go. And I never tie mine too tight to not slip on and off.
