I am a revert. Is voluntary prayer done at whatever time you want to and prayed the same way you pray a obligatory prayer? Or is there only certain times you can do voluntary prayers?

There are sunnah prayers described after and before certain prayers and voluntary prayers which you can do when you want (for example you want to thank Allah for something).

@GreenPillPod the sheikh just said it has to be said in the volunteer prayer not mandatory. Stop giving fatwa out as if you're wrong and they act upon it then you'll get the blame. Leave it to the sheikh to answer and stop giving an answer out as if you have the capability. You and me as laymen Muslims so refer back to this video and listen to the sheikh.

As-salamu Alaikum WaRahmatullahi WaBarakatuh. I hope you are all well.
Yes, my dear brother or sister, in general, supplication in sujud or prostration is one of the best places or times in which you can pray or make supplication, but with regard to the supplication of Istikharah, it is desirable and better to supplicate after finishing the prayer, as it is better to do as the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, taught us., and Allah (God) knows best of course.
