the best feeling is getting caught but the dumpster conveniently gives you an item they like/love
i like it even more when i get an item that’s useful to me (community center items, food for energy, or bad gifts to give to lewis or george bc i hate them)

This one is super funny to imagine seeing from the villager's point of view. You basically never see that weird farmer guy until he bursts out of nowhere, starts swinging tools in the air, and ostentatiously digs in the garbage in clear view of you.
"There's this person who is allegedly the grandchild of the man who owned the farm, but we're not sure, none of us spoke with him. We've always known that Lewis is shady, and he's the only one who told us. I suspect that the two of them must be up to something."
Maybe if they didn't throw so much useful stuff away, one would not be tempted to go through their trash

it actually rewards you with 5 friendship points with him... but he can only catch you rummaging through the trash on one day a year... and 5/255 is 1.96% of a friendship heart, so it's not worth doing for anything other than a cute moment
Fun fact when u open a trash can infront of Linus it gives you heart and he asks if you find anything good

@@MILOEBA Yea :) I like to think Linus sees the player as a threat until he realises they do the same things he does. There's also one of Linus' heart events where he digs through George's trash, so he's confirmed to be a dumpster diver.

Ive been caught by penny at the library too many times for it to be completely discounted but i can understand it being too scarce for a speedrun lol

Once i tried to loot a trash can and got a baguette, but an npc saw me. I then gave them the probably stale baguette and they enjoyed it.
I’ve done this with Sam and Joja Cola’s more times than I can count

I got caught by Penny at the museum trash can. She was waiting to go inside, but she blended into the background so well that I didn't see her.

I was so confused until I just learned that if you dustbin dove in front of multiple folk, it only picks one of them to be grossed out by it. I always thought it was all of them and couldn't work out why you weren't deciding to do it when there were loads around.

This was one of the most chaotic things I've ever seen and I loved every second of it.
the radius for the trash can is 7 squares I believe, almost as much as a scarecrow. they don't need to be next to you to see it.
I do go raccooning through the bins but before a villager looks at me I just sneak away into the shadows of the night.
Challenge suggestion (if you haven't done this already, I'm new to this channel): give each npc a hated gift .. should be relatively easy, looking at the universal hates. The question is .. how fast can you accomplish this on the main island, but ideally including Sandy. Leo would be too much hassle imo.
I was thinking… we should get Em to do this. Not Z. Just Em. I remember Em LOVES checking the basura

You can rerout villagers by planting trees in the way and sleeping until you can't walk past them.
He misses so many oppurtunities, unused trashcans that should be easy and times to clean up mistakes

Now, if digging through trash in the hopes that as many people as possible see it isn't the perfect representation of this channel, I don't know what is. ;)

I'm wondering if it's because Penny wasn't facing the trash can and Jas was even though she was closer? Wouldn't make sense for Alex but just throwing it out there.
Also I'm sure Seanie tries to block out certain stressful speedruns but seriously would love to see him do these again I bet he could cut the time in like half.

I think the NPC chosen is the first NPC who has entered the area, which is also within 7 tiles. So I think for example Vincent came out before Jas and Penny, so it picked Vincent.

If there are multiple NPCs it might be decided by the left most and then top most NPC. Or maybe just the order in which they entered the map

Trying to talk to someone and accidentally digging through the trash kills me and it happens far too often
Trash can interactions are with a random NPC in a 7 square radius. It doesnt work if they’re running

/me getting caught multiple times in the span of a couple minutes every day, including by my romance character
I only started playing the game a few months ago so idk if this was before 1.5, but with 1.5's release Leo exists and it's my understanding that he spends time in Pelican Town once you have enough hearts with him, which would mean getting caught by every possible NPC in 1.5 would require completion of the community center.
The amount of times that Seanie said “Jas” made me REALLY confused as someone named Jas.
Maybe if they weren’t throwing out entire plates of food, live cephalopods, and diamonds we wouldn’t have this problem
What did you expect poor penny to do as a young lady being stalked by some creep that desperately wanted her to watch them go digging through trash? I'm sure I'd take evasive action too in that situation!

Could improved if you remeber that 1 NPCs only have to be in like a 10 tile radius AND everyone in that radius has a chance of reacting not the closest character

penny is really easy, you can get her on any rainy day at the museum
I think the person farthest left when you dig through the trash can is the person that catches you digging through the trash, not the person closest
Non related question: How come Penny doesn't pick Jas and Vincent up but does drop them off after 'school'?

You are incorrect. NPCs walk past three trash cans on the right, too. I have been caught by Penny, Elliott, Caroline, Jas, Leo, Vincent, Abigail, Lewis, Pam, Jodi, Sam, Shane, Harvey, and Clint while digging in them. I try my best to dig in all cans every day. It is a part of my routine :)
It is a pity that decorative trash can cannot be dug in. At least I did not manage :) Did someone here manage it?
