For everyone who thinks "why does a 7 year old girl sing a song like that??? "
Here is a quote from Angelina (7y) from an interview with TV2 after her Audions NTG 2014. "The reason I chose this song is completely random. I love jazz, but" Gloomy Sunday "was random. It was a night I could not sleep and my mother was stressed that I was awake long after midnight. Then I borrowed my mom's iPad where I wanted to listen to jazz on CZcams before I fell asleep. Then came a picture of a beautiful lady screaming at the sky and with her eyes closed. I heard the song "Glommy Sunday" that night and then I had to hear it every day. I love the melody. I understood well what the text was about because I know English well. Every time I sang it I felt something special about it, it's hard to explain in words. When I sang it for mom, she said that this song is nice, but that it was incredibly sad song. " 💯 *AJ* 💯

Amazing choice for a 7 year old to choose Billie Holiday to sing the first time in front of a huge audience. The girl is blessed with talent and courage.

In these days of AI generated over produced music, the way Angelina Jordan can touch your heart in just about every song she does astounds me. That is the real meaning that music can have in our lives, to put us in touch with our feelings, to make us feel truly alive.
It is the opposite of the numbing effects of some much of our daily experience even in the arts and the news. I don't understand it but I am so thankful that I have discovered this wonderful artist.❤

Thank you so much for reacting to Angelina's rendition of Billie Holiday's "gloomy Sunday" Billie is Angelina's favourite artist she said about this song and the words might not be exact that I remember "It was a night when I couldn't sleep, and mum was stressing because it was past midnight, I borrowed her iPad as I wanted to listen to jazz before I went to sleep and I found a lady singing to the sky I had to listen to it over and over, hard to explain but there was something special about it. The next morning I let my mum hear it, she said it's nice but very sad, I knew what the words were as I knew English well". She will know everything about Billie, Angelina is a music scholar. You should listen to Angelina sing "I'm a fool to want you" at 11 yrs old it is one of my favourite vocals by anyone. She loves Billie and still sings "All of me" in her concerts. Angelina is my favourite artist ever, just about to turn 18 on the 10th of Jan , no artist touches me like Angelina , no one is remotely close.💗👣

Jone, thanks for your 2nd reaction to Angelina Jordan. I envy you, being able to hear each of more than 200 songs, which Angelina has blessed us with, for the first time. Angelina's ability to listen to a song and create her own version and evoke the emotion, is truly a gift.
    *Why Angelina always performs barefoot*
At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes.
Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true.
Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. PLEASE PURCHASE Angelina’s book from her merchandise store on her official website.

That was Angelina's official introduction to the world. Besides her wonderful voice her poise and confidence on stage was remarkable. She has been quoted as saying the most comfortable she is in her life is when she is singing on stage and she wants the people listening to her to feel joy and the love in her heart. Some people wonder how can she sing about life situations which they know she couldn't have experienced. Angelina searches for the love in the message of the song and RELATES TO THE MESSAGE OF LOVE IN WHATEVER FORM IT IS IN. What we get goosebumps for or we start to tear up is because we feel the love in her voice, something that is impossible to learn, it must be genuine. Angelina is very genuine.

Lol, she's still gently throwing her hair back over her right shoulder today like she did here, and, great for her, getting very close to being what she wanted to be. Well, not bad, flying with family via private jet for a skiing outing to Aspen. Well deserved, she helped donate 21 million for children even before her first record came out. I am an angel from the first day I heard her sing on AGT, and she is the one who started my musical journey here.💝

Angelina’s’ second song on NGT was also a Billie Holiday song and she sings it a cappella. Then she sings the same song at 11 years old with music and sounds just like Billie Holiday.

Merry Christmas! I have a present for you.
Below are links to some of AJ's music videos from the age of 6 to 17. So if you want you can do it chronologically, or not.
She does all the vocal arraingments herself, even when she was a little kid. The musicians she has worked with over the years have always called her the boss. By age 6 she spoke Norwegian, Farsi, (her grandmother'sPersian), and English. She plays piano, guitar, flute and violin. She has done over 200 covers and many originals, couple of EPs, latest EP Old Enough is all original songs.
Her parents have held the music industry at bay for years insuring that she has a childhood and finishes school first. She signed with Republic Records at age 14 with part of the deal reportedly being that they're not allowed to promote her like their other new artists, I think, until she's 18, which will be this January 10th.
I could be wrong, but that's the rumor. Or until she gets out of school, something like that.
Hope you enjoy the songs. I look forward to your reactions. Peace and love. NP
Age 6: Her grandmother who first exposed her to jazz booked studio time for her at age 6. She recorded 3 songs. Here's a link to one of them- I Who Have Nothing. Turn on the captions and watch all the way to the end where they discuss how it went.
    czcams.com/video/RjQZKBpVaes/video.htmlsi=ao3nLyBB7Ns7XQuL
Age 7/8: All performances on Norways Got Talent: She asked to go on the show at age 5 but had to wait until she was 7. Her family is actually wealthy and all her winnings went to children's charities.

Age 8: Fly me to the Moon: Gotta love some Frank.

Age 9: I Put A Spell On You. This is her tribute to Screamin J Hawkins. At the beginning she gives her arrangement notes to the band leader and holds up a candle with Screamin J Hawkins' face on it.
    czcams.com/video/nwFloCPXzCs/video.htmlsi=hgOjTrTZL6zw7gFm
Age 12: She wrote this song Million Miles for her grandfather who had just passed away.
    czcams.com/video/3KxvwuZ7oEM/video.htmlsi=x3QTuV-PlGip-rCm.
Here she is at 15 with her tribute to Elvis: Suspicious Minds. Note the black leather outfit and guitar mimicking Elvis' 1969 comeback. Plus that gorgeous beehive.
    czcams.com/video/RTbKhkceR00/video.htmlsi=i2XZ-uQgm_7ouCAP
Age 17: Nobel Peace Prize Concert: Here she is today singing Unchained Melody. At age 5 she told her Mom she wanted to sing at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert and did at age 8. So this is her 2nd time performing there.

Great reaction, thank you. This was the first time I heard this little fairy sing, 10 years ago and I've been hooked ever since. In all these years I have listened to she thousands of times in hundreds of splendid interpretations and yet every time I see this first performance of hers at the age of 7, it makes me move again, like the first time, with that wonderful concentration of humility, simplicity, candor , sympathy and talent. Sweetness, emotion, soul, love, are all ingredients always present in her voice, Angelina uniquely embodies the charm of naturalness, she is an inexhaustible source of musical poetry, regardless of the genre and style she interprets.
If there is a singer who loves and respects the great performers of the past it is certainly Angelina, as she once said in an interview, "Angelina wouldn't exist if there hadn't been Billie". 💛🧡❤

  • @ronraskind
    @ronraskind Před 5 měsíci +6

Great reaction and insight. Here are all the basics!
Norwegian born Angelina Jordan began singing at the age of one and a half, and by age three was listening to jazz and classics legends on repeat. Her grandmother was her greatest influence, but Angelina chose her own path. Her first studio performance was at age 7, singing I Who Have Nothing. She won Norway's Got Talent at the age of only 8, singing old time classics from Billie Holliday and George Gershwin, and became one of the youngest ever vocalists to win an international Got Talent Show! Her performance at 9 years old of Screamin Jay Hawkins, I Put a Spell on You is considered one of the finest recordings ever of a 9-year-old vocalist! Angelina also went viral on America's Got Talent the champions in 2020 with her unique versions of Bohemian Rhapsody and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Angelina sings in English which unbelievably is her third language! She is a true prodigy.
She is now 17, and has recorded a huge library of songs, including covers and several originals. A major attraction to Angelina's music is the emotion and attitude she conveys, although she has not experienced the life events! She is known as the barefoot princess of 1,000 voices as she can adjust her tone, style, and register for any song or genre. She was signed by Republic Records when she was 14. She was not widely promoted for a few years, as her family wanted to allow her a normal childhood. However, things are changing rapidly as she has now graduated school. She has recently released two original music video singles from Republic Records, Love Don't Let Me Go, and Now I'm the Fool, coinciding with her new six song EP called Old Enough. The four other songs have been released as visualizers, but where it is that videos are coming. A world tour is in the works, likely for the fall, accompanying her full album release.
Here is a detailed independent chronological playlist from ages 6 to 17, of most of Angelina's 200+ videos including tiktok and Instagram.
    www.dimlylit.net/aja/
A second more condensed CZcams list begins with some originals, her EP, and a few specialty songs. Then it starts chronologically beginning with Gloomy Sunday at age 7 on NGT.

Why does Angelina sing barefoot? The answer may bring a tear to your eye. It is related to a promise she made to herself and to the world when she was only 6 years old. She was traveling in the Middle East with her mom and grandmother and they came across a young orphan girl with no shoes and scarred feet. Angelina gave the girl her own favorite shoes. Angelina ask the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and she said a doctor, but she could not because she had to take care of her siblings. She asked Angelina the same question and Angelina said I want to sing for the world. The young girl said she would pray for Angelina. Since then, Angelia has forever performed barefoot as a reminder of all those less fortunate. At age 9 she wrote a book about this experience, Between two Hearts, becoming the youngest ever published author in Norway. She also has helped raise millions for children's charities. She even donated her winnings from Norway's Got Talent to charities. She is a special individual, and one you cannot follow without developing an emotional bond.
Angelina captures hearts because she is humble and has compassion for humanity. Her stated goal from childhood was to sing for the world and spread love and peace. I trust this will cause you to embrace her as millions of others have, and that you will continue down the rabbit hole from which you will not want to escape. Peace and love.
Please continue to include in your description the artist Official Channel as well as the original video, if you have not already done so. Thank you for your sincere reaction to Angelina's very first public performance. I subscribed and hope you will continue reacting to Angelina, she is such a gift to the world. I only found her 11 months ago and have just been touched by her astounding ability to interpret a song and convey the emotions of it in a way that just melts your soul. And the sincerity and love you see her exhibit from the start seems just as strong today. Like you said - it's one thing to be born with astounding talent, it's another to have the wisdom and determination to nurture it, and she has done so. She seems to approach perfection with each performance, then proceeds to improve upon it the next time round. She just keeps getting better, not taking for granted her gifts but always striving to improve. It's been close to 10 years since this performance - can't wait to be blown away by what she does in the next 10.

There are so many incredible performances that it’s hard to recommend what to listen to next. Actually, her next audition song on Norway’s Got Talent is another Billie Holliday cover, I’m a Fool to Want You-only this one Angelina sings a cappella. Just listen. It’s not just that her tone and pitch are perfect, but her vibrato, her vocal slides, her emotion-it’s all perfect. Here’s the link: czcams.com/video/6LIcQL5gLoY/video.htmlsi=-P1DQUV8O24mn8tr
And if you’re really in that Billie Holiday mood, Angelina sang I’m a Fool to Want You at age 11 for her first record album. She’s in the studio. It’s one take. Watch the extraordinary development in just a few years. She absolutely nails Billie’s vibe, and the vocals are impossible for an 11 year old-but you’re watching her do it. It’s one of her most amazing songs, and you can see why Angelina calls Billie Holiday her vocal muse. Here’s that link: czcams.com/video/SGx0djXTXQk/video.htmlsi=uyke1PXamLZLzH5K

That was good, but she only got better and better - even in this competition. If you love Billie Holiday and jazz, be sure to listen to Angelina singing "What a Difference a Day Makes" and/or " Summertime" to hear her range and amazing personal interpretations even at this young age! Many have said that she HAS to be channeling the classic singers because she has so much soul, and doesn't sing like a child! Her vocal abilities were astonishing - but the biggest treat is how she can connect with people emotionally even as a child!! Then, to see how she's developing, you can skip to her singing on "America's Got Talent- Champions", doing her own arrangement of "Bohemian Rhapsody" at age 13! It takes your breath away! Also soul wrenching is her interpretation of Rihanna's "Stay" and Adele's "A Million Years Ago" at about age 11!!! Not to be missed!! (- See what YOU think! ) After that, there are many many videos of her enormous range of songs - each different and wonderful. She's now going to turn 18, and has just begun to release more of her original music, which you can check out as well. But don't miss her earlier offerings - you would miss so much magic!!

As a guitar player, I assume you'll be interested in her guitar playing. I'm sure people have already pointed you to her significantly reworked version of "Suspicious Minds" from last year, in which she kind of "barely" plays a modern version of Elvis's famous red Hagstrom Viking II electric guitar (she plays it very lightly, so what she's doing doesn't exactly stand out - although you can tell from the music video that she really does know how to play).
You might not have been pointed to some earlier relevant videos. Angelina (-'s family) first posted an example of her guitar playing(*) in December 2019, when she was 13 (almost 14), when she performed SHAED's "Trampoline" as a tribute to Norwegian writer Ari Behn, who had died by suicide the day before. czcams.com/video/KXqLcfzphos/video.html While she has posted many "spontaneous" covers being accompanied by guitarists, this was the first one in which she accompanied herself on the instrument, and it clearly revealed (IMO) that she is not a "natural born instrumentalist" the way she is a "natural born singer". Unlike her vocals, her guitar playing was, let's just say, not effortless, nor perfect.
(* Not counting a few perfunctory strums on a toy guitar as she sang Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" when she was reportedly 5 [but probably actually 6].)
Over the "lockdown" in 2020, she presumably practiced her instrumental skills quite a bit (on both piano and guitar), because when she started playing guitar in TikToks in 2021 - starting with "Killing Me Softly" in June czcams.com/video/eJUaiOhWWkg/video.html - she was noticeably better at it. Still not perfect, to be sure, but much more "effortless" than before (e.g., not having to look at her fingers all the time). Her most well known cover of this type is "The House of the Rising Sun" from January 2022 czcams.com/video/VQsRqVexLCI/video.html (which was also not perfect).
She has since played guitar live in concert (summer 2022 in Norway), but unfortunately it was only a "buired in the mix" rhythm-like part on "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)", not the iconic lead part of that song (which was played by a professional guitarist). I'm fairly certain that she played that iconic guitar part herself in a short TikTok or Instagram, but I can't find it right now.
