The Horrifying Story Behind The Screaming Mummy

- Everyone loves a good mummy, but one of the most fascinating stories about these wrapped legends doesn't have anything to do with the likes of King Tutankhamun or Juanita. One of history's most famous mummies is "Unknown Man E," found at the ancient Egyptian site of Deir el-Bahri. But this, one of the most scary mummies ever found, is better known to the world as the "Screaming Mummy."

No -one - learns like Gaston, digs for urns like Gaston...
No one dusts and unearth the mummies like Gaston
Sorry, he was nothing but a glorified grave robber
@@Donathon-qx8kqIt’s a Disney reference 🙂
"I'm especially good at temple raiding!" Oh what a guy that Gaston!
I really prefer this voice over the others in videos.
It's actually difficult to keep someone's mouth closed after they die
Why?
I imagine it's because muscles and tendons can retract after death.
I couldn't keep my ex-wife's mouth shut when she was alive. Well...she's still alive but thank God I don't have to listen to it anymore.
@@Georges_IV If someone is laying on their back, the default position for the jaw is slack with the lower jaw rotated back and downward. After death, this becomes worse as the musculature, fatty tissue, and tendons slowly degrade.
The rictus grin.
"Textbook Pebekkamen" mad me laugh out loud! Also this is my favourite narrator too in both channels.
Both channels? What other channel?
@@clayman4575 This one and "Weird History Food" It;s the same crew and the same theme, but more focus on the food! It's great!
@@agnespn3670 Thanks for the response. I haven’t watched many of the food channel videos yet, but will check them out!
Hallelujah! Mr Weird History is once again in the house! ❤
The story of the screaming mummy would make for a great movie if done right
7:57 has to be the creepiest exhibition place in that museum
I'm glad the original narrator is back I enjoy listening to him in any of these videos
He never went away, I don't know why everyone keeps thinking he's gone lol, he's always been around and will continue to be around.
@@jaytaylor629 The only NON-AI narrator left on CZcams.
So typical... as SOON as I heard that Pebekkamen was behind it, I just KNEW that Mesedsure and Peynok were in the dirty deal somehow... those two scoundrels are always up to no good
I'M ALWAYS SAYING THIS!
"Stubbed his toe on the Great Pyramid. 😂😂😂
Please Bring Back Timeline!
I think they ran out of "modern" decades they may be planning something though!
But where does it really go?
You should do a video about the victorian mummy eating parties or the unwrapping parties. It's sad to think of all the unknown mummies that have been lost.
They did that already.
@kevindupre422 ah OK I must have missed it then.
Finally, the best narrator is back
Yes!
He never left, was never gone.
@@jenniferlonnes7420 Why is everyone saying "he's back"? I keep seeing this comment.
@ferociousgumby These commenters are like petulant children who can't stand different narrators.
@@jenniferlonnes7420because they're terrible in comparison
I have enjoyed your humorous narrative immensely!
I feel for ya, Unknown Man E.
I've made that face due to an extreme lack of lotion a few times too.
I hear the face on your dog wasn't so wonderful either.
Oh can we just call Man E as Manny? That would be so cute🥰

Narrator: Thanks Gravity!
Gravity: I'm always here to hold you down
😂 I'll see myself out lol
08:45. Incorrect. The Museum houses over 120,000 items. "During the Egyptian Revolution of 2011, the museum was broken into, and two mummies were destroyed. Several artifacts were also shown to have been damaged and around 50 objects were stolen. Since then, 25 objects have been found." (Wikipedia, Egyptian Museum)
If something like what the video says had happened, it would have made international headlines, and it would have its own Wikipedia article, saying something like, "Beginning during the Soviet occupation that carried through the Taliban insurgence, it is said the Kabul Museum was arguably one of the greatest casualties Afghanistan suffered. As a result of the Soviet and Taliban occupation, more than two thirds of the museums treasures and artifacts were lost or destroyed." (Wikipedia, Destruction of art in Afghanistan)
You'd be suprised what doesn't make headlines
Wikipedia's got errors in it. You can use it as a starting point, but it's not the end-all and be-all of research.
@@Yoder023 In my line of work, bibliographic research in history, such things make big headlines.
@@shadowpitched4401 As a Wikipedia editor, I agree. However, you bet the sack and destruction of such a touristic museum would have made international headlines. There were no images comparable to the Kabul Museum director crying over the remains of it, or the destruction of the Buddha statues in Bamiyan. Maybe the video's writers unconsciously believe that every disturbance in a Muslim country ends up with the destruction of its museums.
Regarding Wikipedia, yes, it has mistakes, but you can count on *the existence and notability* of an event since the moment it has a full article dedicated to it. The art destruction events in Afghanistan have it, the Egyptian ones have not, but just a paragraph. If you have enough reliable sources as to prove that what the video says is correct, please create the Wikipedia article. As you know, anyone can edit it.
Great video, and I would love to visit Egypt some day!
Would love to see a video on the mummies of Guanajuato now that you gave them a shout out in this video lol
Great video! Thank you
Oh OG narrator is back! Hallelujah
Very interesting.
Thank you

Many thanks for this! 🧟
Random Thought this morning.
Has a pregnant mummy ever been found?
That's a good question. I wonder if embalmers removed the child with the other organs and put it in a canopic jar, or buried the fetus separately. I'm not an Egyptologist, so I don't really know, but I do know the embalmers removed all the organs and only left the heart.
My quick Internet search brought up 2 different instances of pregnant mummies -1 with twin fetuses outside of the body, and 1 with a "pickled" fetus still inside. Maybe that's why this guy was screaming?
Talk about mummy issue
A chapter of my undergrad dissertation includes a discussion of the Harem experience. Papyrus Rollin and Papyrus Lee detail that magic ("words of heka") were used against the king. fascinating stuff
Great topic!
@btetschner oh yeah, absolutely fascinating. So far im a few thousand words over the word limit 😅 that should say how much i enjoy the topic.
It's due friday. Just up finishing up proofreading and formatting
Great video
I love my mummy
This is quite possibly the LAST human narrator left on CZcams.
Mummy? Sorry, Mummy? Sorry , Mummy? Sorry

Bro which software you use for creating videos?
When's Timeline coming back
I have a cold right now and Man E just looks like how I feel. Head back, mouth open cause I can’t breath through my stupid stuffy nose
I worked as a Certified Nurses Aide for 31 years. Part of that 31 years I worked in a Nursing Home. Where I had a patient who talked constantly, the woman couldn't keep her mouth shut....litterly. When she passed myself and another Aide and one nurse tended to her body to prepare it to be picked up by the funeral Home. We had a thin linen cord to tie about the face, under the jaw then tying it at the top of the head. We used eight of these and still could not keep this woman's mouth shut. Laughing about it each of us having worked different shifts with the woman. When the family came to see the woman they thought we were so upset about her passing they gave us each fifty dollars. Of course we couldn't accept the money. Not only because it was against the nursing home rules, but we knew why were had tears and it wasn't for remorse. Lesson learned if you know a talker......then expect them not to keep their mouths shut even in death.......lol.
The narrator is the reason why I watch this show. But that Eazy E joke tho 😂
Oh God, not Pendua too ... LMAO
A+ video!
LOVE IT! What fantastic images too!
This is the narrator I personally like to hear do these videos 👍
When we gonna see Timeline?
Glad it was pointed out in the video that the gaping mouth is likely just due to gravity. People who are in the process of dying lose muscle tone and are often slack-jawed while they are taking their last breaths. Then laying them flat naturally tips the head back and the mouth stays wide open and won't stay closed unless it's wired or screwed shut by the embalmer.
Thanks gravity, and they wonder why we get uptight when they have other narrators, gold!
Ranker: please take the time to understand that this narrator (the OG) is the voice of this channel and no matter how many times you try to shove new narrators down our throats, it won't work. No offence to the other narrators, I know they just doing their job.
-From a longtime Weird History viewer
Great video, but as to your question at the end; Would you like to go to Egypt to see the screaming mummy? Thanks, but I'll pass on visiting a country where women can't walk alone in broad daylight without a male to protect them. I enjoy my independence and safety far too much.
😆 women can walk alone day or late night in Egypt, i think someone is deliberately misinforming you. peace
There’s one screaming mummy from South America with both hands clasped upon its face like a pre-Columbian Kevin McAllister.
anyone know what the song is at 8:28?
The body works after you die? Geez i thought id get a break finally! 😅
😮 This is like my nightmare come to life 😅

Wow scare ME I'm ready ⚓
Judging by the position and the look on the face, dude was kicked in the junk really hard before he went. RIP
The Screaming Mummies sounds like it could be the name of a rock band... 😁
(It's not. I looked, lol...)
I wonder what a mummy smells like..

Ah, yes my mummy. Isn't she just precious, before I wrapped her?
It looks more like it's snoring to me.
I kept expecting to hear the word rictus in this video.
Huh. Plot to remove the current Pharaoh at the time thwarted and the guilty punished in ways similar to Imhotep's fate in the Mummy movies possible? Well that's Egyptians for you. They did not play around. I'm thinking I should be mummified and curse anyone who challenges my will (if I ever leave one) :P

Popping in checking in to see if there's any weird history timeline......... Well looks like I'll be waiting a little longer for my timeline fix.

Are you my mummy?
I had to look 😂
A lovely story. I can't say I have ever been interested in Mummy Curses and the whole mythology. Once I learned that the Curse of Tutankhamun, as propagated by Howard Carter, was nonsense, the mystique lost its lustre. The fact that many Egyptian monuments have been moved to make way for Lake Nassar cancels out a lot of the "Aliens did it" BS. Seeing these monuments first hand is an interesting experience, but no different to the engineering project to dig the Jubilee Line under Queen Elizabeth Tower, with the safety of Big Benn being the main focus. Human ingenuity and engineering is a wonderful thing at times.
At least it’s not in the London museum
Yay! The REAL narrator os back! Weird history is finally worth watching again! ❤️🔥

The other narrators are just as REAL as this one, plus, this narrator never went away, so there's nothing to be "back" for. 🙄

I have probably seen that film 15+ times.

Maybe they mummified the poor bastige alive.
Buried alive, without remorse..his insides left to rot wrapped in sheepskin thats high in fat...only adding to a slow decay of tissue....ouch... he's painful demise, probably from jealousy

I feel like mummies should be left alone where they were laid to rest. Or at least return them once they're studied.
These are still human beings that had lives and families. It's disrespectful, in my opinion, which doesn't matter.
Not to be mean but I feel really tortured having to listen to the other narrator. Please do us a favour and develop his own style for him.
I win!
Man E Calavara?💀
….and THAT is why Jacob Marley wore a bandage around his head to keep his jaw shut.
Always so difficult to decide how I feel about displaying human remains. Is it disrespectful or in a strange way acknowledging their existence . It was fate that the remains were found so it is fascinating however they were laid to rest to be undisturbed. I guess if who ever it was that is on display and they did not like it they would haunt the crap out of all that looked upon them with out the due respect.
They're dead, they don't know the difference!
Who’s skeleton did they use in the movie poltergeist? How did they get permission for that ?
Just once I would like to hear you scream... Play some rap music.
