I have said it before and I’ll say it again-we seem to be in the golden age of home gym equipment. Sooo many small startup companies coming out with genius equipment that forces the bigger companies to think outside the box and continue to be creative. Who will win? All of us :) I am definitely excited to see the Adonis!
I def. love how the smaller companies are pushing the bigger ones to do better. What do you think the price tag will be on the adonis?
@@NoFate247 I’m gonna guess $2799. Where would you price it??
Good advice on this video. I have the REP PR 5000 with selectorized lat pulldown and low row. I don't feel like I need a FT. I can do tons of exercises with Barbell, dumbbells, and high and low pulleys. I am glad I do not have the plate loaded version
Yeah I know some people love their plate loaded version but honestly I feel you'll always be wanting to upgrade it. Can you do 1 arm lateral raises?
@@NoFate247 I do lateral raise with dumbbells. I mostly use selectorized lat pulldown and low row for back exercises. I use MAG grips. I also use it for tricep and biceps. I have the new kleva tricep push down attachment and love it.
Your channel is getting better. I have a REP 5000 and FB marketplace has saved me hundreds of dollars. BTW, I have a DYI tricept set up and will do a Lat and Row in the future. Pulleys and cables do the trick!
Let's be honest, my channel couldn't get any worse so it had no place better to go but UP! Does the DIY version get it done or any thoughts on the athena?
@NoFate247 yes, for tricept work, it does well. I'll see what I come up with for a lat setup. I love the new stuff. There's something about DYI that is satisfying. I'm saving money, so the Athena isn't on my list. I like basic power lifting.

My number one street soldier! Thank you so mcuh for all the support! Did I get anything wrong?
Thanks for the informative and fun review. I currently have the PR-5000 6 post w/the Ares setup and I absolutely love it. There really isn’t much this thing cant do. Well worth the $$$$ IMO.
Yeah she's a beaut but she aint cheap! Would you recommend this in a 4 post setup for those tight on space?
@@NoFate247 absolutely! Even with the 6 post I prefer to work off the front of the rack with spotter arms. If you had to go down to 4 posts and didn’t want to be inside the rack, spotter arms are the way to go. Just take them off when you are done and you get 30 inches of space back. :)
Nice video. I have a plate loaded lat low row attached to my PR4000 and a plate loaded Valor BD62, one day I will uograde one to a selectorized tower, but it has fo be a very small footprint.
Space is always at an absolute premium
That’s a great break down and explanation of each
OK if you had to get only one, which one you getting?
@@NoFate247 if I had FU $$$ and could build whatever I wanted… I would go full bore and get everything in one ecosystem.
Great opening, the first 60 seconds sums up my experience the last week or so trying to figure out what cage, rack, rig, wall-mount, system to go with. Leaning hard towards PR-4000 with an ARES, Athena or something on the back.
How much space you working with?
@@NoFate247I have up to 12 feet in one direction, and 5 1/2 feet in the other, but that is because I have a 6" step at the front of my garage, so I can build a little platform and have 8' in the other direction. I am trying to stay on the riser in my garage, 10-12ft and 5 1/2ft.
I'm going to buy selectorized lat pull down from Rep. I only need couple of exercises, and I never even worked out on functional trainers when I was going to the commercial gym. Besides that I have such a limited space that I many functional trainer workouts wouldn't be even possible
At least you know what you want, space is such a premium in almost every gym! You have the 4000 or 5000?
So many well priced gym equipment now but not enough space or money to get them all...
Aint it the truth! If you could get one new thing, what would it be?
Twenty years ago there definitely wasn't as many options as there is now. The best at the time was Body-Solid, Parabody, and Tuff Stuff. And even those were your typical light gage power rack, plate loaded lat/low row combos. What I do miss however is the abundance of home gym equipment storefronts. There seemed to be two or three in a 10 mile radius. And back then, GNC even sold bars, accessories and cable attachments. With all that said, the variety and quality is far superior these days.
brick and mortor stores are almost a thing of the past especially with these type of products. What's your home gym setup look like now?
There was also NewYork Barbell selling TDS equipment. My first setup was a NYBB sumo squat rack I bought off of craigslist in 2006. Those Brick and Mortar stores were usually a rip-off EXCEPT every once in awhile they had to run a clearance sale for stocking the wrong thing and then I once bought 200lbs of 10lb olympic plates at $0.33 per pound which was perfect for my loadable dumbbell handles.
Nice vid. Was moments away from getting the PR5000 and ares but going to knock the house down so have to wait a few years.. didn’t want to have to move that bad boy around multiple times. I’m perplexed why rogue hasn’t had any whispers of a selectorised cable insert. Maybe they aren’t losing out much to Rep. I see it in the future but I also see it as twice the cost of Rep.
Yeah not sure why rogue hasn't followed suit but to your point they probably have to charge double and that will push the average user to rep even quicker.
Love all the options Rep is putting out!
Yeah, i've seen a lot of companies starting to copy them, which is always a double edged sword but overall good for the consumer. What's your favorite over the past 2 year?
The Athena so far. The Adonis is probably going to take the top spot when it comes out.
Could you buy a utility roller attachment (like that from Sorinex or Stray Dog) and insert it into the bottom of your uprights? That way, you can shimmy directly under the cable and have your thighs held down by the pad?
That would probably work
Can’t decide for my 6 post pr5000 on dual Athena, Ares with low row mod, Athena plus lat high/low or wait for Adonis. Only knock on Adonis is it’s singular and no flys also don’t really have space for Adonis.
Go with the ares. Most options with the least amount of space
Shoot me an email and I can go into more detail why I would choose that one
Rep has really good options and even after your breakdown I’m still a little unsure. Probably gonna wait for the Adonis and see if it can fit my space. On the opposite end of the spectrum I’ve been getting a lot out of my bells of steel cable tower so I’ll be patient for my next purchase.
Yeah Bells sells some versatile equipment for sure and sometimes it's hard to pull the trigger on high price tag items. What do you think the adonis will cost?
Probably comparable to prime’s but I saw on the Ryan Rep AMA on Reddit that they were looking at 2000-2500 depending on plate loaded or selectorized. Of course once they finish getting it ready for mass production that price could go up
Great video! Any thoughts on the wall-mounted athena if limited on space? I don't have a power rack. Debating btw wall mounted athena or the new arcadia. Would appreciate your thoughts. thanks!
The wall mounted athena has some benefits if your tight on space. I personally try to avoid putting anything on the walls unless I absolutely have to. If your looking for a functional trainer, I'd probably go arcadia over the wall mounted athena. If you also plan to use the power rack option then the athena probably offers more versatility
@@NoFate247 Appreciate it. Given limited space (and low ceilings), I don't think i have room for a power rack + functional trainer. And think a regular rack would take up too much space. Wall mounted athena is appealing given the limited space but i also worry about anchoring something to my wall.
I picked up the Inspire base functional trainer from Costco a couple years back. I still don’t think there’s a reason for me to upgrade that as it is truly all I would ever need for flys/tricep pull-downs/ curls. The only thing I can see myself getting in the future would be the lat pull-down/ low row for my rep 5000.
I've got one for my power rack and it's fun, especially on those heavy heavy days. How's the costco holding up? Heard good things about it.
@@NoFate247 it’s been holding up great. My only gripe is the pos included pull-up bar, but other than that the stacks are just heavy enough for accessory work. I’ve been meaning to ask you how you have been liking the upgraded weight stack. Do you find yourself using it enough to justify the extra cost?
Curious, how many days and how much time do you spend with your ski erg? I have always felt like I’d never use it 😂
Well I have a few pieces of cardio equipment. It get's used 2x every 8 days on the programing now. If I had less equipment it'd get used more.
@@NoFate247 cool, honestly a video about how you rank the cardio equipment would be interesting to watch, especially with so much coming out these days.
I went with Rep PR4000 and dual maxed out selectorized Athenas. I think its better than having separate cable machine for a few reasons for one they accept bands and BOY does that sometimes make the exercise better like tricep pushdowns or bicep curls plus having it in rack lets you attach the cables to belt squat belt and let you add weight to bodyweight pullups and dips. I weigh 252lbs lost some weight and add 30lbs to pullups and 50 for dips which you often can't do on separate cable machines. I combine the two with GymPin bar for heavier pulldowns and rows and will soon buy gympin to add weight. Two 45s on each side adds 90lbs of feel weight bringing it up to 300lbs!
Great points! Love using mine for belt squats and the bands definitely hit different
I will give the belt squats a try! Right now using Henny straps to hold one side and a barbell with GymPin adapter and got a 20 inch pipe holder to hold it (they can hold 2500lbs!) Setting it up definitely takes more time than just connecting to cable. I wish we could add more weight 200lbs a side would be perfect!
Curious if you built a stand to get more depth on the squat? I plan to have Home Depot cut a 6x6 14 inches long and have two maybe cut a horse stall mat and add for grip. Then use those to put 70 inch mirror a bit higher off the ground when not using for squats!@@NoFate247
Curious which companies bands you use? I was shocked at how much resistance they give my first one was serious strength black one and it FEELS like 350lbs I use it as quick deadlift! The tiny ones don't look like they give much resistance but THEY DO! Great for side and rear delts after shoulder workoout. I think they're better than cables for many workouts.@@NoFate247
I use 2 55' bumpers and that seems perfect for me to get real low. Also for the gym pin, look into Weight it out plates, they make a bunch of thin plates perfect for getting 135 on the pin.
@@chrisdonnell2575
Thanks great idea for the bumpers!! I bought 15s and 35s as I was curious about cross fit type workouts and throwing barbell on ground. I'll give that a shot. I have the second thinnest plates Rogue USA Olympic but have been thinking about getting Weight it out as I got the Spud Inc burlap sled and that way I can carry 2 45s across the street to a park like area to do sledding. That kneesovertoes guy is RIGHT backward sledding does get rid of ALL knee pain! Before sled would walk backwards in community pool but not as good as sled it works muscles I don't think you can hit doing squats or tendons or maybe its just 5-10mins of burning that area and sending so much blood there which heals them.
I use a pipe stand to hold the landmine for belt squats and its max height is 37 inches and put on plyo box to hold landmine for shoulders absolutely love it and 1/3 the cost of the titan one and holds 8x more weight. (2500 lbs!)@@NoFate247
Adonis is still not an option on REP’s website. Any clue when it will be available?
2024 q2 is my guess
Cant wait for the Adonis to come out.
What you think they'll charge
@@NoFate247 a lot 😃
What about the Arcadia?
Great question...Arcadia is another functional Trainer so it falls into the discussion where I mentioned the ft5000 2.0. If you wanted or needed a smaller version then definitely go Arcadia
No PJ cameo?
Dude - wicked sorry. I appreciate all your help but the footage made the cutting room floor. This video was 15 min and boring until i cut it down to 10. If you ever need my help with a video or need content let me know! Did I miss anything with the Ares?
