  • It's that fog that surrounds a thought when the experiment is long passed-- how did things go objectively? How can we compare apples to apples when one of the apples is a faded photograph?
    So we take the "common" RTR tire offerings and run them back-to-back-to-back-et.al. and we get a... winner? At the very least a standout. What RTR tire should you just throw away? Which one is worth keeping? The episode contains no less than 1.5 surprises.

    This is the kind of content that makes it worth becoming a member to this channel! I don't have the time or money to test this variety of tires, but I definitely want to know how they rank. Crawler Canyon did this homework for me. If you are a viewer, become a subscriber - better yet become a member and support more tests like this.

    I've been an Axial trep fan for a long time. I still use mine
    Edit:
    The compound is R35. I believe axial went to R40 With their RTR tires with the scx10.2 BFG and the rest.
    R35 ripsaw imo, are one of the best axial tires, they're just small.

      Yep, ripsaws are great, I don't know why axial doesn't bother trying to make them in a 4.6 or 4.7 size. I think a LOT of people would buy them (I know I would). I have the small ones myself and am always impressed with how well they work.

    I'm currently running that exact Vanquish tire and wheel combo. Nice test 👋

    I just have to say thank you dude I tried the single hair bun and a 1.0 tire so they come in at 2 in a bun you can also get them in a 2.5 I took one layer off the outside and put them in there and so far they are performing for the nominal

    You pulled out the Ole reliable Axial Trepidors & no vanquish Vxt's. Lol. I read the comments 1st till this 1. Lol the ole Trepidors are a personal favorite almost a 10 year old rtr tire & still good!

    For whatever reason, Axial made two versions of the Trail Grappler. The slightly shorter and much narrower version that came on the 10.2 Deadbolt is R35 compound perform a lot better than the bigger ones that you tested. With a bit of lug work they improve even more. I rotate in a set on an "RTR Comp Build" (a 'mutt' of RTR components that we run in a "super-stock class 2" local competition) with Halo foams and they're...decent. Definitely still nothing to call mom about, but they're pretty good after some easy work and break-in.

    If you are going to go with a ripsaw you need to go with the R35 compound since that is their (Axial`s) kit compound and it is way better then the stock compound.

    In defense of the canyon trail and "it's not scale", google "wildcat EXT". I had a set years ago on a 1:1 truck. I don't know if traxxas knows of the wildcat EXT, but it's very close to it. The sipe in the two rows of center lugs that we all use as a guide for cutting is about the only difference.

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Looking at the "promotional images" of the Wildcat, I was like... I guess I see it a little? Then I saw a picture of someone selling on on OfferUp and was like HOly crap! that's a Canyon Trail! Well, if they made a 1:1 version in something like LT400/60R19.

      Yeah, I had 30x9.5x15's on an F150, I know they made 31'x10.5 and 33x11.5, I don't remember if they went any bigger or not. I want to say they went to at least 35's, but I'm not sure. This was all back in the 90's though, I have no idea what (if any?) are still made/offered. I just get tired of some of the guys I go trailing with that always throw that "it's not scale" comment at me when I'm running a set (and usually out-performing whatever they are running). @@CrawlerCanyon

    Would you say the s1 canyon trails are a worthy upgrade over stock canyon trails? They look like they’d be pretty damn good after you cut them and put them on printed inserts. I’d really like to see a comparison of their current state VS. when they’re cut on printed foams

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  Před 11 měsíci

      I would. The RTR wears in to probably 90% of the capability of the S1, but the S1 is excellent from the go. It's definitely a softer compound on the S1, and as the Canyon Trail is a tire that works pretty great on a tough compound, it just gets that much better.

    No Vanquish VXT's? I had a set of these VXT's laying around with a set of Treal rims so I mounted them, washed them with dish soap and let them sit. When I went to move them they were stuck together. Mind you, each wheel weighs 254g...and these VXT's were so stuck together that it lifted another 254g wheel. And you just mentioned the VXT's lol. I should watch all the way through before I comment.

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  Před 11 měsíci

      I gave away all of the VXTs, because I had absolutely zero luck with them-- they're SO skinny, but still tall, so they just flopped over. Then again, I had terrible luck with the VXT2 as well, so I gave those away too. No sense in letting them rot on the rack.

    • @V8chump
      @V8chump Před 11 měsíci

      Huge misconception is that “stick” matters at all… once you get dust or dirt on the tires the stickiness is null and void…. It literally doesn’t mean anything about the tires performance

      @@CrawlerCanyon the trailer tires will have to match my rig’s tire size 😎. It will probably be an overlanding camper. I’m currently just dreaming. This will go to the trx4 that I still don’t have.
