A painful heartbreaking etude. I cannot practice it too much for that reason, it is like an abyss but with mature emotions, it takes a lot out, composed like a duet between the left and right hands having different characters both interlaced melodic lines with the left hand being extremely hopeless in character and sad and the right hand trying to soothe and infuse some positive views. There is a sort of breakdown from the left hand on the second page then it goes into a dreamlike state of unattainable bliss, which ends abruptly and the wake up is more cruel than the beginning, right hand still doing its job to relieve the pain. On the last page the left hand goes in the bass expressing painful dissatisfaction and sorrow and it ends with freezing hopeless chords but with a beauty of something unattainable. This all reflects Chopin's life all too well for those who know the fine details of his biography. The young woman he had projected to marry changed her mind and rejected him plain and simple (no not George Sand, she was only a substitute later platonic companion). Imagine being one of the greatest composer of his time and he could not find a beautiful woman that would give him her hand.
I haven't read the complete comments. but if somebody has anything to say about the faces he's making.......Drop dead please....This is emotion and passion to the fullest.
These face expressions are helpful to me.. I'm always so stressed out when I perform ,but when I focus on the beauty of piece I play and when my face shows that too it's easier to deal with that somehow.. enjoy this wonderful performance by Daniil!
@H For for God’s sake even the easiest of Chopin is extremely difficult to play at the artistic level that Chopin wrote it. Ofc if you just constrict yourself to mechanically burp back the notes, yeah, all pianists can do that 😂
This is the first time I've heard this, and I'd have to say it might be the nicest Chopin piece I've heard - just wonderful. As for Trifonov, an incredible player in all respects, but the depth of emotion he has for someone relatively young is really something.
not unique at all. Many people played this but very few play it well because they don't understand the music. He does. And it's exactly how i can hear it in my inner ear. People who don't understand the music find it "unique" or "original" when they hear a good interpretation. There aren't many ways to play this etude correctly musically. This is it. Cortot also understands the music of Chopin.
I like it. I play this piece myself and I always had some difficulty interpreting those climatic 7 bars in the centre of this piece to make my performance really flow. This video has helped me get some good ideas. Thanks.
Monster? He recently was called " Medium of a better World". I think his Music is highly spiritual, also the trancendental Liszt etudes, witch I love very much! ❤
I agree. One of the saddest pieces I’ve ever heard, though so original and beautiful. The melody is kind of intricate, never leading to anything joyous or fulfilling. Just sadness.
Who on earth was in charge of the video editing? Moving from the keyboard to the face at 1:50, just when the virtuosic passages start to gather force... What's the point of recording the video at all then?
extremely difficult, to voice the two melodies you have to constantly pedal in between notes, I can't really explain it. like in one measure starting at 0:29 - 0:34 you have to make sure 7 sixteenth notes are clear so there are quite a few pedals in there, but you also have to hold down the middle voices. it takes a tremendous amount of concentration and listening, first you have to develop your hearing a bit.
you have to be able to execute this etude's specific challenge, and your teacher has to be able to listen and tell you whether or not you are doing it just to make sure you are.

A rare instance of Chopin's use of quotation. The initial motif of this etude is a quotation from the introduction to Act 2 of Bellini's Norma.
I really wish his hands had been shown more often in this video.

I know, we're in an "emotional" world, lol. But this is not emotion, this is concentration. Believe it.
And yes, there is a difference between ...
Calm down haha
@@hfor2419I think it’s both.
Шопен был таким молодым, полным жизни, но был обречен на смерть...Но его музыка победила смерть. Музыка- это жизнь. Прекрасное исполнение.
This is heartbreaking.
never felt so much pain.. it feels like my soul is tearing itself apart. chopin agrees
Finally someone who understands this etude. Hi, from one to another who can feel it exactly the same as you said. Most people cannot !
Просто гениальное исполнение!
Totally moved,heartbreaking performance~bravo Daniil !!!
absolutely sublime...Chopin would be proud
The most sensitive version I ever heard.
Wonderful!!!my very favorite Chopin!!
Perfect!!! Daniil is perfect!!!
Splendide interprétation Daniil est un second Chopi
paulette pontois exactement
The most emotional piece of those op 25. Trully beautiful
emotional is an euphemism. This piece is extremely sad and dark. The closing chords are like an end of it all.
Absolutely wonderful. An extremely hard piece to play and played with so much emotion and heart.
No, lol.
Extemely hard pieces are elsewhere. For a pianist this is common. No, not the emotion.

such an amazing recording
absolutely sublime
Великолепно ! Это - " разговор " с музыкой !!
Unique approach to the piece. Breathes life into some voices that are buried in the standard interpretation.

Игра Д.Трифонова глубокая, льётся, как повествование о переживаниях.

Friedrich Hueppe how's the piece doin ? :)
how is it doing now?
is u still playing this during rona
Trifonov è l'erede di Richter. Interpretazioni che restituiscono pienamente il senso di un pezzo. Mai esteriori . Grande!!
absolutely sublime, poetry
How beautiful ...👏 very sensitive
Favorite recording of this etude
Исполнение по струнам души!!!
Beautiful!
Wonderful!! Thank you!!!
my favorite in youtube so far
Genialnie!🎼🎶🎵🎹💞
beautiful
Sublime!
This festival bought him to the world - now Carnegie Hall and the rest.
Daniil is a monster of a pianist. His Lizts Transcendental etudes are outstanding.

He plays this well.
It's sad that there are so many empty seats in the audience.
it is because i bet tickets were expensive as hell
Young Paderewski ...
Is it possible that this was during Tchaikovsky competition?
@@tobiaszenz180 Correct, this was at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory during the Tchaikovsky Competition.
Yes, it is part of theTch
I play 25no7 etude sometimes
with bitter sadness of love
this is obviously part of the Tchaikovsky competition. Look at the picture of Tchaikovsky in the background.
4:01 heartbreaking
The most painful work of Chopin
And op.48-1

very sensitive
for me its a tie between him and arthur papazian. papazian has years on him in his performance considering that Daniil is well ahead of his time.

PASSION: NOUN /ˈpæʃ(ə) Daniil Trifonov
What is considered the best recordings of this piece on yt apart from this one?
IMO Pletnev’s on Deutsche Grammophon is #1.
Above all, including Trifonov.
Great performance, but they did not show much of his hands at all.
1:10 is this chopin coughing?
Is he crying and sweating? I think both!
cant help thinking of Mitsuko Uchida
We've found our new horowitz
Yup. Been saying the same thing for a few years now. Similar in so many ways
Same place in forest of piano?
I don't understand: he's playing Chopin but there's a picture of Tchaikovsky in the background.
Tchaikovsky competition, I'm sure.
International Tchaikovsky competition, one of the most prestigious piano competitions in the world if not the most. It's just in his name

I *listen* for the beauty and the dynamics. But someone had the idea of recording a video of it so... there you have it.
I don't get why they are labeling this as Copin, when it is clearly part of the Tchaikovsky Competition. Can anyone give me an answer?
You don't just play Tchaikovsky in the Tchaikovsky competition
what kind of difficulty level is this ? (only technical view) Lets say the first ballade in g minor is level 10 as a reference point
extremely difficult, to voice the two melodies you have to constantly pedal in between notes, I can't really explain it. like in one measure starting at 0:29 - 0:34 you have to make sure 7 sixteenth notes are clear so there are quite a few pedals in there, but you also have to hold down the middle voices.

spartan10010 I'd my hearin is quite good :D What is it like in comparison to the g minor ballade ?
It is officially AmusA level, you can call it level 9 if you'd like.
you have to be able to execute this etude's specific challenge, and your teacher has to be able to listen and tell you whether or not you are doing it just to make sure you are.
spartan10010 I'm selftaught :/
People caughing are do disgusting.
IL y a quelquchose de trop forcé dans l´expression de Daniil... On est gagné par une souffrance qui n´est pas de mise dans cette étude !
ewww the sweat XD
Idc what facial expressions he makes, how much he sweats or anything else superficial, as long as he is producing this sound, he is a god in my eyes
Lmao why is he sweating so much
Because he's doing his best!
I assume its a major event and its effort and nerves
Emotion.
Because he is WORKING. If you aren’t sweating you’re doing it wrong.
I think Pollini's version is better
Look at his face.
Look at yours, dumbass.

but I do not agree with pattiwatan sorry but it's nice but not perfect
come on it is not that hard he is playing like it is alkan or smth xd
What do you mean? There's few people that can perform Alkan but I'd say triffonov could.
What...?
Yeah, not bad for a beginner. With a little practice he could even become a real pianist.
this was released 10 years ago
At least he’s trying. The technical stuff will work itself out as he spends more time in the shed.
