  • Here’s my ‘83 Ford Ltd Crownvictoria, I felt like an in depth walk around was in order! This car was a one owner car, it was from southern Missouri very close to Tennessee so there’s no rust anywhere on this car. In my opinion it looks like it just rolled out of the dealer ship from 1983!

      They'll even go in the bush. A first and second gen crown vic can go in the bush, a third gen can tow, and a fourth gen (in the right configuration) can go faster than some so called "sports cars" sold during the 90s-00s. I love crown vics because i'm an old truck guy (im not actually old tho) and these are basically a car version of the bullnose ford trucks and basically the same to work on.

  • @gencreeper6476
    @gencreeper6476 Před měsícem

    Fun fact: first and second gen crown vics (the boxes) can even handle being driven on mild-hard medium bush roads
    I bought one of these as an impulse buy just to save it because im a crown vic fan and it was cheap someone was definitely gonna derby it if I didnt buy it. All of my other vehicles shit the bed and now for only $50 (and a bunch of my own labour but still you can fix these easier than a modern car) I was able to turn my impulse buy into a reliable daily. People think i'm insane for dailying an old boxy carbureted 80s car but it drives just as well or better than modern vehicles.

    Very nice! I haven't seen a Crown Victoria like this in person in my area in at least 15 years. One of the last I've seen was pretty rusted too. Car like that rusted out because of the salt. You are very fortunate to own one in this shape. The hubcaps resemble what you would see on a Granada.
    If you're going to drive it in the winter, I would only use it on unsalted road or on cold dry days where the pavement is bare and there is no salt water. Also any crack on the vinyl top will allow water to infiltrate and rust the roof, so I would watch out for that.

      Thank you! This is the first one of this body style that I have personally seen. I don’t plan on driving it in the winter, it will just be for special occasions when the conditions are right! The roads were last salted probably 2 weeks before I took this video, everything was dry as well! So it should be fine. This car has basically sat indoors it’s entire life, the last time it was registered for the roads before I got it was in 2000. Surprisingly the top is in perfect condition, I haven’t seen a crack or indent in the vinyl! It will always sit indoors as well! I plan on posting videos of my trucks and cars, maybe 2 videos of each switching back and forth.

    I was watching a video by Thunderhead289 where he replaced the carb on a 74 V8 Maverick with a small lawnmower carb and was able to get 40mpg with it. That is well-beyond my skill level to do, but I would be very curious to see if the LTDs from the early 80s could match or exceed that. Not sure if you have the capabilities for that or not, but might be worth considering if you do.

    Nice Crown Victoria. These cars are great highway cruisers and with fuel injection and overdrive transmission will get better than 20 mpg on the highway. I have two Crown Victoria wagons a 1987 and a 1991. I recently purchased a 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis in dark blue metallic a 50th Anniversary Edition with blue full carriage roof and gold anodized exterior trim. According to a plaque on the dash it is one of only 250 made. You cannot find new cars with the quality that these panther platform cars have. I plan on getting a crown Vic sometime soon, I wanted to get a 1990 model but the one I’ve been able to find is the same year as yours. A 1983, although when I went to check it out it didn’t want to start, any idea why? Current was passed on but the battery wasn’t the issue, I’m thinking maybe the spark plugs.

    • @Andrewj2152
      @Andrewj2152  Před rokem

      I’d try the ignition control module, they are known to fail. Could be coil, could be a bad distributor cap, or it could be as simple as a fuel filter. Spray some starting fluid down the throttle body that will tell you if it’s got spark. It sounds like the price should be right on that car! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a car not start just because of spark plugs, my 68 f250s spark plugs were extremely black but it still ran!
      Good luck hope this helps.
      Side note see if the fuel pump is pumping could be a bad fuse as well.

    Nice video! But i have some questions:
    1. Why only 85MPH (130KMH) on speedometer? As i found in internet, those 83 LTD Crown Vic had V8 and from 132 to 182 HP, and 4.9 - 5.8 L. so why so little speedometer? or back in the days they didn't show max speed on dashboard?
    2. As i see, Oil Pressure and Water/Coolant Temperature is Extra Gauges... so how 1983 driver would notice engine overheat or lack of pressure? only by Red Engine Lamp? its, so strange... its like "something wrong with your car? just go to our dealership , don't try to inspect problem by yourself, or even fix it"
    sorry for my bad english

    • @Andrewj2152
      @Andrewj2152  Před rokem +1

      That’s a very good question! Back then America had a national speed limit of 55 on the freeway, so as you can see on the dash they emphasized that mph, I believe the thought for only showing 85 would be to put more emphasis on going slow. After driving the car at full throttle it definitely can go faster than 85, but it takes forever to get there. I added the additional gauges because I was battling a oil pressure issue, and I wanted to know exactly what the car was doing. I dislike how it only had 2 very vague warnings lights. Driving it on salt covered roads is going to tear it up fast. You should keep it in the garage until spring, man. I have an '87 2-door Crown Vic sitting behind our garage that needs work. Yes, these are slow as all heck but they will break the tires loose on dry pavement. And your '04 is definitely similar, you could actually swap the frame from the '04 into the '83 with some tinkering, it's been done before.

    • @Andrewj2152
      @Andrewj2152  Před rokem +1

      I agree that salt roads will tear it up, I just wanted to fire it up and take it for a spin. Most of the roads haven’t been salted in at least 2 weeks before I took it out. But it is back sitting in the shed, out of the elements. I do plan on fluid filming the car this summer just to prevent any rust from normal driving, this car won’t be driven much.
