Thanks bro, You helped me open it up then i paused ur vid, i could not find the belt placement. Then i watch six seconds farther
Thank you my dude, I opened up my WM-FX315 with you pointing out which clips to push IN, took me 5 min. Once opened i realized the belt was off. Again followed your instruction on belt placement and its working!
Great. Are you using it again?
@@feelingretro5154 hi did you find the belt size?
Opening one up right now. Absolute nightmare. Thanks for the guide
Great videos, gentleman! I enjoy them very much! ... I know you have already been given different tips, but I still do not read anything about the pinch roller ... So, in summary, you probably need a tighter belt; you should clean with isopropyl alcohol the bronze motor pulley; and you might need to clean or replace the pinch roller. The mainboard speed control (potentiometer) does not seem to be the issue whatsoever ... Dear friend, I hope you can fix this walkman or any other units you purchase in the future with similar issues ... Best wishes and regards from Costa Rica!!!
Do you know the belt dimensions? :((
PS, the wow and flutter (sound problem) is most likely caused by the belt length or thickness. The correct belt will help. As others have said, clean the pulleys with IPA, and also the pinch roller and capstan. Wouldn't hurt to clean the head too. If the pinch roller has an indentation where the capstan has been left pressing against it, then that will also lead to variable tape speed. You can replace the rollers too, but I've never done so. Belt is the first thing to get right.
Thanks!
Theres a very small potensio, but not the one with negative screw. Its speed adjustment potensio, you could slowing it or speeding it up. Use the pot to calibrate the playback.
Just used this video to open up my Walkman, my belt was intact I just needed to clean some corrosion- but the playback is pretty warbled too so now I’m thinking the belt may still need replacing. I guess I’ll be messing around with adjustments as well now. Here’s hoping we get to a solution
Keep us all updated!
when belt is round internal diameter is 53mm and belt size is 0.8. I just ordered and in meantime i used some random rubber and i have same sound as you so my quess it is belt problem. i have ex-122 but machanism looks the same.
diameter 53mm 0.8mm belt works in ex122 which mechanisms look almost same
Have you tried to adjust the speed of the belt with adjustment test tape?
Thanks for the tip!

Try 8.5 cm or 8.8 cm rubber belt measured as half length. Remove any traces of residue from the old belt (that can cause slippage .. which causes unstable speeds) using cotton damped with 100% alcohol and make sure to let everything dry up before inserting the new belt...
there is a speed control of the motor, you need to increase the speed a little bit.
Thanks, Rene.
When the walkman is playing, you see that black piece of plastic running up and down in a slit on top of a white gear. That's the auto stop mechanism. It looks like that's running dry / having old grease on it, causing friction. You can clean it up gently and lube it again with an acid / solvent free silicon grease. The shafts of the gears can be lubricated with a thin oil like sewing machine oil, but be careful and don't spill that on plastic pieces to prevent it from dissolving the plastics. If that's not the problem, you may need to find another belt.
Thanks for your support.
You have 2 ''screws'' or pods on the motherboard you can decrease or increase the wow and flutter I think :)
Good tip!
HI FRIENDS.
THE MEASURE FOR THIS TYPE OF MECHANISM...
0.6 THICKNESS X 80 MM LENGTH RUBBER.
GREETINGS TO ALL.
0.6mm X 9.0cm?
Вобщем все протри спитром. И посмотри не испортилась ли резина на прижимных роликах. А также нет ли налета на тонаалах
The belt has turned to goo purely with age. This is the most common cause of failure in cassette players. Make sure you've cleaned all remnants of the old belt from the pulleys and mechanism. Isopropyl is the best stuff, but you can use almost any alcohol along with cotton swabs. Playback speed is unstable and while cleaning the pinch roller will help, i think the belt is actually a little too tight. It is only a semi-educated guess though.
I'll give it a try, there were so many options for the belt i was a bit overwhelmed. I will try clean it with alcohol and see if it sounds any better! Thanks for the info!!
You need to lubricate the mechanism very carefully without touching belt.
Heyy i have that kind of sony too, not sure the number, but it just look the same
Has yours needed repair?
@@feelingretro5154 i guess so, bcs the sound not so smooth when i play in cassette, maybe the belt. Btw I also have WM that using gumstick battery, but the battery station is missing so i have no idea if its work or not. 2 of them
clean the pinchroller or replace it!
Who is the masked marauder ??
For the belt....Measure the existing stretched or broken one and buy one a size smaller....
If necessary run thin string on the path of the belt....measure that and go for the next size down..
put it oil axle bearing wheels
clean head magnetig first
there are variable resistor on the PCB need to increase drive motor speed litle bit
It's the motor.
Damn i got one and the spindle keeps spinning even when its stopped.
Ты сумасшедший....😄 его разобрать нужно немного аккуртнее...😅
Thats no walkman, thats an egg, try to get something with cohesion like a sanyo m4440 or a sony wmf1 then you have w walkman in your hands!
Great pieces of kit!
and then clean capstan roller with alcohol liquid
I find the same Walkman in the trash. Free
Did it work?
@@feelingretro5154 yes.with new belt.
