    Bridle Path and Kulp Elementary Schools Advanced and Beginner Band plays Jingle Bells December 16, 2009.
    No teacher was fired in the making of this concert!
    All elementary school band concerts sound this way at some point.
    This is the ORIGINAL video Jingle Bells, which has been reposted many times on CZcams, Reddit, Tiktok etc. under titles such as "when you're the only person in band that practices," "we can tell who's been practicing," etc.
    Shown on the Late Late Show with James Corden on January 23, 2023 (Without Credit, how kind)

    "If everything goes well, at least we won't have a heart attack" at least he's well aware they're pretty bad. I like how they do victory poses after creating the worst sound known to man. Respect to the band director for keeping his cool with these kids and pulling through. Being an elementary school band director is not easy and takes a lot of patience. This is a starting point, and kids will grow their music skills when led the right way and potentially move on to a top university band. Kudos to Josh the soloist for carrying the rest of them, he's an example of what happens when you take music seriously. Appreciate and respect the instrument you're playing, and it will appreciate and respect you.

    @JuanVazquez-si9xq Před 3 lety +14060

    This performance was a masterpiece. The use of the solo introduces the simple melody, and it is played beautifully, purposefully using "wrong" notes to bring tension, and unique rhythms to keep us on our feet. As a listener we expect that tension to eventually resolve and be relieved, but no, the full band comes in and subverts expectations by bringing in complex harmonies, fully using dissonance and highly advanced microtonal technique to contrast the simple and overheard "jingle bells" typically played.

    As a former elementary school teacher, I feel for everyone here, especially the teacher. I recall trying to organize musical events for assemblies, and the anxiety that always accompanied that.. Luckily, most parents love their kids no matter how bad they sound, and when the inevitable youngster freezes as soon as he/she sees the audience, wanders away and starts waving to his or her parents, or thinks that sticking their bum out and making faces is hilarious, most parents are pretty good-natured about it.
    And then when it's over and you can go home, you can sit on the couch alone in the dark with a large glass of scotch and contemplate your life.

      I agree. From the time my oldest started in 3rd grade band until my youngest moved into the high school concert band, I attended at least 18 concerts involving the beginner band. They all sounded pretty much like this one. The students were very proud of themselves, and the parents ALWAYS enthusiastically cheered them on. The kids WILL improve, but they have to start somewhere. The soloist obviously was NOT a beginner, and as I recall, that was mentioned in the video. Bravo to the directors who teach beginners - for their patience; to the students for their effort, and to the parents for their excitement and unconditional support.

    When these children were born, they slapped the doctor for not crying. And when they stay at hotels, the hotel pays them for staying. This is so blursed. Just think. They are all adults now and can do and listen to this masterpiece whenever they’d like. 😂They’re kids, their job is mainly to enjoy music and making it, not to be perfect! They’re doing an amazing thing there. If we wouldn’t have little performances like this, we’d have music as a career or just as an ability perceived as an even more elite thing, which is certainly shouldn’t be. Massive well done and huge respect to the conductor.

    Edit: To the people saying they are only there for a grade, I’m comfortable saying that 90% of people I know would just take a 0 instead of actually coming and playing in public. Also to the ones saying the teacher failed them, the same thing applies, sure they could have done a better job, but it takes courage to own up to one’s failure like this teacher did. The entire band and teacher is really respectable

    Any person who is a band director of kids this age deserves all sorts of honors. I saw my younger brothers turn into good musicians due to a band director who made kids love music and love playing music. We all have to start somewhere. BTW - I tried playing the violin in the sixth grade and was so bad my mother made me quit because she could not stand to hear me practice at home.

    • @bobyoder5810
      @bobyoder5810 Před 2 lety +19

      I wholeheartedly agree with you. The school my kids all attended introduced kids to band in the 3rd grade, after Christmas, with a concert in May. They start out with all of the students that play a particular instrument learning together so they can spend more time focusing on one instrument during a class time instead of wasting time with all of the students and all of the different instruments during the same class. A couple of weeks before the end of year concert, all the students finally get to practice together. They are TOTALLY thrilled about what they have accomplished. And the parents are thrilled too. All 4 of my kids started in the 3rd grade band. I’ve gone to about 18 concerts that included the 3rd grade, (from my oldest’s 1st concert until my youngest started performing with the high school band.) It was great to see their improvements each year. Some stayed with their original instruments, while some changed. But ALL improved their minds and lives because of what they learned musically. And it all started with 3rd grade band.
      Their debut concert sounded very much like this one. The director definitely needs to be commended because it HAS to be hard to work with beginners. I would venture to say that all the negative comments are people who didn’t have their kids in elementary beginning band, but God knows that since they can remain anonymous, they think they know everything and if THEY were the director, the outcome would definitely be different. But I seriously doubt the outcome would be different.
      Bravo to the director, the students, and the parents.
