Mr. BDC is right that creasing your jeans down the center is a Texas tradition. Back in 2004 I was visiting some older friends and the wife grew up in East Texas in the 1950s. She decided to do my laundry and ironed a crease down the legs of my 501s! I blew my stack. I have been wearing 501s since the late 1960s and we never did that, so it looks foolish to us Northerners. I was able to eventually wash out the creases so that the lines didn't show, so the jeans were not destroyed. I never knew why Texans would crease their jeans until this video, so I now appreciate that it was a Texas way of showing off cleanliness.

I used to wear starched clothes daily. My jeans would be super stiff and literally could stand up on their own like you mentioned. Had to use a baseball bat to open up the legs so I could get them on. Wish that dry cleaners was closer. I’ve been saying that I was going to start wearing starched jeans more regularly again. We’ll see😂 This Texas gulf coast heat is what made me stop wearing them in the first place. Love the look man. Brings back memories of the good ol days.

Speaking for most guys that dress like he does, most guys in Texas don’t wear Bolos. Only the yay who’s do that are here. Might be ok with a suit….mayyyybe. Tucking the end of the belt just cleans up the look. Loose belt end looks unkept enough that it defeats the purpose of going thru all the trouble of starching up the duds. The whole point is to look sharp. Always good to hear a lady tell you that “you clean up nice”

My method is the same with two exceptions. I dry my jeans in the dryer on low heat until they are almost dry then hang them on a double clip hanger, the type that you would use for shorts. I hang them on the shower curtain rod and spray each side of each leg thoroughly with Stay Flow. At this point they are basically wet so I let them hang until I'm ready to iron even if it's overnight and they are dry and already wanting to stand up on there own. i have a fairly expensive CHI iron that puts out an incredible amount of steam. I do use the steam to get them started as at this point they are hard. Finish off with some extra starch along the crease with dry iron. I might try your method with no steam.

I have been wearing Levi's 501 jeans since the late 1960s. Before 20 years ago Levi's used soft high quality medium weight denim that could be used for working. That type of denim doesn't wrinkle so it never needs to be ironed. But modern Levi's 501s use poor quality lightweight rough denim that can't be used for working. Those type of jeans come out of the dryer as a wrinkled mess. My solution is to just wear vintage US made Levi's 501s made before 2000 because I am not going to start ironing jeans after five decades of not needing to.
