Actually as a graphics card has no IHS compared to the factory he used an amount that would allow other components around the die to transfer heat into the cooler.. Just because you think it's wrong doesn't mean it is.. GPU and CPU are completely different in regards to thermal paste requirements

personally, I never noticed any different Temps, even using as much thermal paste as him, if you put enough pressure on the retention bracket/pcb, you'll just squeeze the rest on the side of the die, tho I will be a mess to clean up
I just did this operation by myself and from 82*C i went down to 68*C in FurMark. Thanks a lot, mate! And yeah, I didn't use so much thermal paste! I used 1/3 of the amount you used. I used DeepCool Z5 Thermal Grease.
Thanks, bro. It helped me a lot. Previously I only changed the thermal paste but did not notice any significant change in temperature. When I cleaned the whole GPU as you showed in this video, the temperature jumped down from 84 to 71 degrees Celcius. I used deepcool Z10 thermal paste.
Top tip here ,i used my Mrs hairdryer to clean the cpu and gaming case that was caked in dust. Needs to be a hairdryer with cool ability. Worked like a treat . Lov u vids martin
Bevis Butthead Your welcome. Btw yes it is good practice to replace thermal pads from video ram. I did not have them and usually its fine to reuse if no replacement is on hand. But if your pads do tear apart than you should order replacement for them. Its nothing expensive . Good luck with your card and thank for watching.

Just wanted to pop in and necro post life-saving info. It's an over-volt. XFX among others put 100mv extra into their cards that Afterburner/etc don't account for baking the hell out of your card. Drop it 100mv in Afterburner and give that a shot.
I have a RX580 Pulse 4GB. After replacing the heat-conducting pads Gelid 1.5 mm and applying a thin layer of GC-EXTREME paste, the temperatures were 84 ° C and 3200 rpm !! Returned the original thermally conductive pads, applied a much larger layer of Gelid paste. Temperatures max. 74 ° C at 1550 rpm. Gelid pads are very stiff and cannot be pressed properly, the cooler does not fit properly. But the radiator does not fit properly even without pads, a gap can be seen! Therefore, larger layers of paste are needed. The problem was solved for me.
if youre still using that card take it apart and replace with 0.5mm thermal pads, search on utube there's a vid of that that's the size u need lol they are way oversized
Great video, I personally recommend this one in particular: Thermalright TF8, is not cheap, is at the middle but it worth it, the thermal conductivity is 13.8 W/mK, this is much more than the average and so far better than the cheap ones, but most important if safe to apply much as you want because is carbon based (metal-free it means NON-electrical conductive) also you can use it for liquid or air cooling system made of aluminum, copper, or any other metal, for CPU or GPU, what else can you ask...?

Nope. Its consider normal as long as ur gameplay not stuttering or shutdown. Mine on RX 470 max temp 85° okay till now. Just order MX-4 to change new paste.
DO NOT PUT THE SAME AMOUNT OF THERMAL PASTE. PUT A PEA DROP. You are supposed thermal paste to fill the gap between the cooler and the gpu die. If you create a layer of thermal paste (which he did) your gpu will overheat. More does not mean better.
have the same issue with my RX 580 sapphire turned out it was the 0 RPM setting fans wont turn on unless you reload a cooling curve been tryin to figure out how to retain that setting from boot to boot but nothing seems to save that info as default.... But ya way too much paste but he is right it would not hurt anything just messy
Mate, try MSI Afterburner, u cab set the fan to a specific speed, I have mine running at 65% all the time, but on warm days, have to set to 100% to stop it going over 80°c,
The squares are thermal pads, they serve the same purpose as thermal paste and transfer heat from components to the heatsink. Any time you disassemble a GPU it's good practice to replace them. If you replace them, make sure they are the correct thickness for your application.

It’s non conductive paste and yes I know it was a lot . It’s fun how much attention it’s gets. But never the less it will spread out and will still work perfect. Actually the card runs still in the pc till now and no issues at all .
It’s unlikely that they both failed at the same time, so check if there is any connection issues. Also, the sapphire fans are swappable, it is very easy to remove and replace them, and I’m pretty sure you can buy them from their website.

mine is an MSI RX 580 Gaming X 8Gb and it gets hot while gaming 81c-82c on full load , idle is 26c-30c .. isn't Gaming X supposed be a to 'premium' card with that huge heatsinks? why it reaches these temps I dunno :S
Update: I took the card apart today and changed the thermal paste. that made a HUGE difference..from 81c-82c to 48c-65c only on full load. no more loud fans! absolutely silent now I can't even hear the fans at all!

Did Thermal paste renew + undervolting for my Rog strix rx 570. On Bannerlord I had around 78-80+ C now it's around 68 C.

This unit has been in use so long it's draped in fine dust and debris. Hardly like upgrading a new unit!

The squares are thermal pads, they serve the same purpose as thermal paste and transfer heat from components to the heatsink. Any time you disassemble a GPU it's good practice to replace them. If you replace them, make sure they are the correct thickness for your application.

Have you monitored it’s temperatures? If they exceed 90c then there is definitely a problem. Replace thermal paste it or your psu

or go ahead and just put 120mm case fans, arctic P(!, not F) 12 are great, you can use one mb pwm fan header and set them to like 800 or so RPM static

Size of a pea at most, you are only filling a tiny gap between the processor and the heat sink probably of 100th of a millimetre.

@@aleksifrmdao ye 90°c is the limit temp. try cleaning the card from the inside, change the thermal paste and install more case fans.
Update: I took the card apart today and changed the thermal paste. that made a HUGE difference..from 81c-82c to 48c-65c only on full load. no more loud fans! absolutely silent now I can't even hear the fans at all!

waste of thermal paste.....a slim line would do the job...
Bro that thermal paste you use is ages old... well the brand is..... treat yourself to some Arctic MX-6/MX-4 much better than what it is you are using..... by id say 40% I have the exact same card and have used that thermal paste you have... try better...

That is a ridiculous amount of thermal paste and to add insult to injury and say more is better means you have zero understanding of how thermal paste is used. Anyone looking for how to apply TM should go look elsewhere to someone who's more knowledgeable.
