@@buzz4332 Tbf all the tech tree did was remove the randomness. Before the tec htree you could still do random researches in the benches. Personaly I was normaly quire lucky and used to get exactly what I wanted from the random researches.
its nerfing everything, i dont want to spend a 100 hours researching things every month. it takes away from buying vehicles and crafting things to simply play the game
So the tax for benches will only really affect solos and duos really, larger groups will have no issue getting the scrap for it and it wont alter their gameplay at all. WHile solos and duos are now going to have a harder time researching.

It's to encourage players to find items and research them using a research table, as that will be cheaper. Of course there is a higher risk that comes with that. It's all about a balance, not sure this is the right balance, but there has to be a balance within the game between these things.

The tax system should be based on how many players have access to the base or doors and tcs even if they dont have access to it (tc) and even they have different bases as long as they have access to the bases the tax would equal to how many players are there in the base with shared door codes and tcs doing so makes the solo players and other zergs/clans would have to put equal effort in getting the tech tree researches.

A workbench tax, wtf? its already the most expensive options to use a wb and we already have a kind of "tax" in the form of having to unlock a bunch of random bs in order to unlock the thing we actually need.
Nice to be able to break walls but having to stand there placing them for a million years? Whats wrong with deploying them to protect yourself during combat btw, like why did that need to get patched?

So much of this detriments solo play. Scrap tax doesn’t matter to clans, but to a single dude it does. A clan doesn’t really need walls to deploy instantly just due to sheer numbers, but a solo does. The raiding thing with wall upgrades, although fair, sucks for people playing against much larger groups.
Stop crying, of course a 16 man is going to have an advantage over a solo go play solo servers if you care about it

So many things that benefit solo players now too, though, you can now raid clans who are online 24/7 without them pulling any crazy tricks that they usually do, you can pickup external walls you misplace, something clans don't need to worry about, because they just have designated builders with the 8000 hours of experience. And Heli will target the biggest threat, mainly clans roaming, as a priority.
Clans can't insta place High Walls and push your position, granted you can't do so to defend yourself either so it's a eh, 50/50 balance really.
And MLRS has it's time to use again, ramped up, meaning you don't have to worry about clans raiding you and hitting you every 10 minutes with MLRS rockets. Which also means you can't do that either, but you aren't solo raiding a clan if you are also using MLRS.
Scrap tax just means you use the Research table more, especially when you kill the Clan member out farming and get his full metal ak.
Also, Cargo docks twice, so you get a second chance to push that clan on Cargo if they haven't left already, but that will also mean you'll need to leave quickly, if you win the 1st attempt.
@@EtutEagl IMO they shouldnt have shown the highwall change without showing a alternative that isnt dogshit. The maps are extremely open with very little cover so they should have announced a smaller set of walls similar to the Ice walls that are meant to be used for PvP first instead of just removing highwalls and hoping noone would get mad. If they dont plan on adding anything useful, I think its a very bad Change both for Solos and Clans because since the recoil update you can get beamed by anyone with 100hours not to even mention the scripters (anyone with a logitech mouse) who you will have to have a 150m+ spraying battle against cause u cant really push aggresively because theres no walls walls. Usually I used to do that because if they they cant pull down to the left, they wont be good enough to PvP up close.
I have to assume the team HATES solos and duos. Almost all recent changes have made it so solos suffer the most.
None of these changes affect teams of 3 or more. Kinda of disappointing that solos are essentially being relegated to solo only servers.
At least that's what it feels like to me.

It is like Facepunch watched an AloneinTokyo video and banned every Raid protection strategies he uses. 1. Can't quickly reseal compound anymore 2. Can't smoke an area and quickly rebuild destroyed walls 3. Can't reverse grenaded walls in raid defence 4. No more offset bunkers 5. Tax on scraps (affecting mostly solo/duos) .
Next month update: "Every player name starting with ALONE and ending with TOKYO are banned from the game... "

Well, if AIT can do it so well as a solo, why can't more ppl? That's the thought behind him, Willjum, Sleth, ect.... Check how much Sleth gets in trouble for just by using items in game creatively. I lo e the solo life but I'll be dawned to farm more scrap every single update.

You should mention how the change to triangles will affect building. Any exploits that need a pixel gap will no longer work.
So basically every offset bunker in the game is gone now...
@@robertthompson3077 They were pretty much patched anyway since December but yea now they'll be completely unbuildable with no workarounds.
@@CrowRust The God Bunker and a few others relying on build outs still worked. This feels like it will remove everything but the basic foundation bunkers and possible stair bunkers
I think horizontal pixel bunkers will still work.
Guess kill respawn bunkers will be the only option soon 😂
Tech tree needs to be removed all together, before items were so much more valuable. You find a ladder, you run back home to research it, you find a wall, run back, find a hatch, run back.. Now you just ignore most of the items and loot only guns/ammo/meds.
Also, we had so many shops around the map, people were selling electrical stuff, ammo, guns, garage doors.
Plus it incentivied going to higher tier monuments because only in those places could you find the high tier stuff like tier 3 guns and boom. Now you can just roofcamp an oxums for 10 hours and get every bp
I think the main reason we get the kind of updates we get is because most of the player base plays weekly wipes. The game was built on the idea it wipes on force wipe every month so the design meta is just the devs trying to make these weekly wipes fun to keep people playing. I could survive a monthly wipe in a stone 2x2 before the tech tree was added because explo ammo wasn't so easy to get for small groups and mini copters weren't a thing so people didn't really travel across the map to raid you like they will now.

Every update they buff groups and nerf solos, duos or trios. How are you supposed to defend a raid now as a solo from a big group? You can't place walls to secure your compound and loot boom, instead the enemy large group can just W key you. The only thing solos had to destroy big clan bases, was MLRS, well it's been nerfed to 20 minutes from 10, giving them more time to rebuild. You can't place foundations if some big group is trying to foundation wipe you. Tech tree now has a tax which gives bigger groups an even larger advantage as they can gather scrap more quickly and accelerate their progression even faster. A large group can now C4 your wall and you cannot upgrade it to stop or slow an impending raid (before shooting it was a good balance to prevent this sort of tactics, but now it's just a default...). Nerf to bunkers, which was a tool mainly used by smaller players to avoid being raided by big groups... They nerfed Heli a few weeks ago too where it runs away if you can't shoot it down fast enough, but it was a good way to get boom as a small group.

The only people I ever see use em are large clans who are constantly controlling oil and cargo. Also, the people I see placing walls most often are again geared players who you catch out in the open and they just insta-wall like its UKN. MLRS isnt gonna destroy a well built honey combed metal base anyway, like the kind clans often have. Instead its good for taking out a few stone walls.

You can get them actually quite easily as a solo by doing Mil Tuns and getting the three Elite Crates without cards. Tacularr has a video where he just farms the tuns for them to take out big groups.

Sure that happens and this does nerf it too, but like I said, go watch an Aloneintokyo video, he primarily walls his compound to loot boom and slow down a raid or prevent it altogether.

It's primarily for taking out turrets and destroying roof access, not the whole base... You could use it to destroy a whole base if you offlined them with multiple strikes, but that's rare. It's like I said primarily to take out turrets, destroy roof access and maybe like you said to destroy the stone walls or compound walls. It's really the only way a small solo can take out a large base on their own. Otherwise you will get W keyed while trying to HV turrets.

The addition of removing walls with a hammer is amazing but a rlly dumb thing they did is add a cooldown to the placement of a wall. This changes the most important aspect of the game which is pvp, now when your in the snow or any open land you cant place a wall to cover yourself / protect you from getting killed. In my opinion they should really think about this and hopefully not go through with it.
My favorite thing in this game is solo/small group defending my base against a large group. They took away replacing high external walls quickly, put an arbitrary limit on turrets, allowed other groups to short my remaining turrets out, changed recoil for accessibility and homogenization so there's no more being "good" at shooting, now I cant replace foundations which is pretty important when a 20 man is spam rocketing your core, and I cant use high externals for cover when the majority of servers look like barren battleground maps with no cover now. Oh and scrap inflation in a game i use to escape irl worries about actual inflation, cool. At this point video games need different versions, some people like legacy, some people liked 2020 rust, some people like this CoD rust now, just give us the option to choose. I want to play the game I bought, I enjoyed that game.
It seems like everything is being changed to discourage solo play at almost every turn.
Heli fleeing should NOT be a thing at all. Given how quickly it can shred you out in the open and the dangers in following it, not only from Heli itself, but the number of players you need to encounter to get to a place you could fight Heli again is, again, feeling like playing solo is a detriment to any progression.
If you are going to have a tax for grinding out the scrap to get the workbench in the 1st place ... why bother having WB's at all. Just make the whole game based on having to research drops instead of using a tech tree. At least that would be fairer than penalizing solo players exclusively.

Haven't played Rust in so long, but I always watch Shadowfrax videos. Feels like news for a world I don't live in anymore. Cheers.
First, they limit the number of auto turrets you can have. Now they are making it harder to build and rebuild. They still have done nothing to mitigate server loot data from going to every client on the server. I may as well just leave all the doors to my base open and have no locks on my loot boxes.

@Robinhartz The game is programmed so that all servers constantly send every players loot data to every player on the server at all times. Regardless of loot owner, line of sight, or distance. This makes it insanely easy to exploit since the information is being sent to your computer.

Distance-based loot visibility: Only send loot location data to clients within a certain radius of the container. This reduces the amount of information clients receive and makes it harder to exploit for distant locations.
Partial loot information: Instead of sending the complete contents of a container, send only basic information like container type. Players would need to physically access the container to see its full contents. Exploiting the location of loot containers would still be possible but exploiters wouldn't know which containers have your booms.
Line-of-sight checks: Only send loot information for containers within a player's line of sight. This would require additional processing but make exploiting loot location data impossible.

The explosives on the wall stopping the residents from upgrading is stupid. It should be on the raiders to damage the wall before that if they do no want it upgraded. Another crutch mechanic that will add to the slow death of the OG playerbase.
Using the Tech Tree is already subject to a tax because you have to unlock stuff you don't necessarily want to use, the addition of a further tax is a little bit insulting

it only makes sense from a realism standpoint, naturally if a pilot’s armored helicopter gets shot at too much he wants to not get shot at anymore

There already was a workbench tax. You had to research a bunch of trash you don't need to get the thing you want. Also, the heli rework should just be completely rolled back. Having it flee midfight is dumb af. Another great update from the smoothbrains at facepunch.
I feel like increasing scrap for the tech tree is not the way to go. The one thing both solos and clans have the same of is time, so instead have the tech tree have a cooldown. When you research something, you are put on a 30 minute timer before being able to research something new. This would still encourage going out to find blueprints for the research table, while allowing the tech tree to be a consistent way to get the blueprints, albeit with a timer now. For the PVP wall change, I think using building privileges would be a better route. When in your own building privilege, you can still place walls right away, while outside of this area would have the timer applied. This would allow raid defenses still, while pushing players towards using the quicker wooden walls as they want. If they still want a delay, maybe just half the time in building privileges, but either way I think it would help keep raid defense usable.
Wall rotation with explosive on is a big change!
They probaly did this due to players placing explosive on wall and then turning it araund, killing players on other side. Tho you can probaly still do a window grenates.

There's a new staging branch beta called "main" where the door controller changes are, for some reason both the "no beta" and the "main" beta can connect to staging servers without issue though
If you look at the subteddit, it seems like they are the ones that wanted these changes, not the rest of us.

Perfectly, exactly what I needed, it wasn't enough the 50 man zerg was after my crappy solo base, now I can't even quickly reapair it for defenses either, amazing!
I hope building and item placement times get added to a lot more things. Even on vanilla servers there's already compounds on the second day of wipe, before most people get a chance to play over the weekend...
Honestly if everyone just moved to monthly servers and played more slowly, i think the whole game would benefit
@@stewartcoltharp-zl7lh What, the game revolves around the 1 week wipe. Since the beginning of the game thursday/monday wipe servers have been by far the most popular. Followed by biweekly then monthly. Monthly servers are built for large groups and roleplayers. Weekly wipes are perfect for solos and small groups due to fast crate respawns and small maps.

Yes it does
The workbench tax is a head scratching solution. It punishes solo/duo and big groups will see pretty much no difference.
The tax should work in a way that you can unlock anything, but then you have to pay a tax of 10-150%. For example, you set your goal to only get the AK!
So far we have:
Lv1 50 Scrap
Lv2 500 Scrap
Lv3 1250 Scrap
(That's already 1800 Scrap.)
While unlocking, you got an additional 2500 Scrap, so: 4300.
(By default, you just go and play the game, and the gameplay is designed so that you can find AK, oil rig, locked crate, airdrop, etc... So you can quickly get 1800 + 500 Scrap in return.)
So what I would see as good is that we would still craft the LV3 for 1800, but you could immediately unlock the AK not for 2500 Scrap but for, let's say, 2000 Scrap with tax included. You saved 500 Scrap, but you won't have those items that you would unlock along the way.
2000 Scrap is just an example; we need to find a middle ground, which could be, for instance, 1400 Scrap.
In summary, there would be three methods:
When you just happen to find an AK and want to craft it yourself: 1800 + 500 Scrap
When you only want the AK: 1800 + 1400 Scrap
And when you go through the branches without tax, because we are honest and not bandits: 1800 + 2500 Scrap

This is what happens when you update your game monthly. Now they're just changing stuff for the sake of changing it. It's already been goober fest ever since the recoil change because anyone with half a brain can just spray you down from behind if they shot first. Taking the only thing that could protect you from it would just encourages lame fights, No pushing/engagement plus silencers. I was thinking I could just carry a building plan and make do with it but glad face punch hates fun and adding debri to it as well.

I think learning from the benches should be way more expensive like 50% to 100% tax and the first week of wipe should not allow using the benches to learn anything unless they add back in the gambling feature where you spend like 75 for a random bp on tier one ect. Team lead should auto share all team bp's with group. They should make external walls double the cost but make them 50% stronger and unrepairable other than a super slow natural self repair over time if they are not already. They should add mercenaries and guard dogs to roam around your compound which costs scrap to maintain out of like a guardhouse type thing to help prevent offline raids.

Walls should be insta-placeable when you are in TC. Should only take 3 seconds if using for PVP walls

@@VvvnimaL because placing walls is alr dangerous now with a 3 second timer grubs will easily come to steal ma walls, and its not walls are insta replace so it wont make a diff if u defend a raid since theres alr the wooden/stone wall debris
@@VvvnimaL yea should be obvious. The point of the delay is to prevent people spamming walls during pvp, but that shouldn't hinder people trying to build their own compound when small movements are necessary for exact fit

@@godspeedfx The idea is to prevent people from using high walls in emergency situations. People drop walls as they are getting shot, they aren't breaking out building plans to build a triangle, then hammer to upgrade it to wood... Then place a TC.. Then place a wall. That's not how it works ma boy

Jesus we gettin' taxed even in video games now ?? 😂 all jokes asides, this will make it even harder for Solos/Duos now... Imagine defending a raid against a clan and you can't seal the base quick enough and they have time to all come back even after you've killed the entire clan. And forget about walling in the middle of a PvP Fight now... Nah all of that sucks man, oh and that new Heli AI update jesus it needs to be removed as well ! I like where rust is headed but the biggest thing for me is a change of environment. I want more realistic thicker forests and jungles. Maybe some gulches and bigger valleys.

Idea: Let solo players have an extra line in inventory
Reason: Solo play is rewarding, but its frustrating when you do eventually wipe out a 5 player squad and you can only take 20% of the loot. 1 extra line in inventory makes a big difference and rewards solo play.
Implementation: After playing 2 hours, if you havent used a keycode in that time, new inventory line appears. Using a keycode resets this timer. Keylocks do not reset this timer.
I don't know who's coming up with these ideas like 3 second deployable external walls but it seems like Facepunch is hellbent on eliminating solo players and giving every advantage to large groups and clans.
This game keeps getting nerfed so hard, I half-expect Tic Tac Toe to become more dangerous than a game of dodgeball in a bullpen!
I mean, soon we'll need hazard signs and safety gear just to make a move.

This game has become such a hassle for solo players, they promote way too much stuff that has no impact on large clans, matter in fact, it even helps them even more... The devs think everyone has friends who play rust with them everyday nolifing it like they got nothing else to do... i work 50h weeks, same as some of my friends, there is no way I can even get to everything in time while I am getting rekt everyday again by clans swimming in loot, making it extremely frustrating to having to start over everytime, eventually, I basicly went to other games cause its honestly not worth my time anymore, and ive been in this game since it came out but how older I got, the less time I have too
And yes I could play on solo only servers, with basicly zero to no progression unless you play on a dead server lol and what is fun about that right... you either HAVE to nolife it, or restart on a daily base, fun fun fun.... lol
Rust players when teams 8x their size have an advantage (this is inconceivable to them)
To be fair rust isn’t a solo game it’s made for 6 to 10 players. No shame in playing a solo or 6 man limit 2x server. Absolutely none. And you might have more fun and more time to pvp instead of solo grinding in a vanilla

Regarding tech tree and such I think there has to be more incentives to explore for different items, slightly reduced rubbish in good crates, and more items that are not available via tech tree but can be BP'd

L update. Good thing I quit this game months ago. Only good change in this is demolishing externals. Everything else is terrible and make solo play even worse.
I think rust needs to add a half square floor/roof tile… (so a rectangle half the size of the full square.) I think that would open a whole world of possibilities to building and something fresh and new for everyone!

I get everyone saying it’s hurting small groups I don’t necessarily like the update myself. But I also understand in a game like rust balancing solo vs team play is extremely hard because every time you buff solo play you also boost team play it’s a hard scale to balance. In my opinion it’s easier to do as face punch does and nerf metas and watch how players adjust. I personally hope we see some even bigger changes in metas, new defense raiding methods.

New heli is awful and is almost impossible for a solo to take. Bench tax idea is stupid as it only makes things more difficult for solo/duo's. The whale looks like it could be fun if done properly.
