Yes! Sensational album! I just discovered it this weekend (had never heard of the band before, wasn't sure what to expect), and was blown away by how great this is. Superb Symphonic Prog. Great balance between the classical influences and more rockin' aspects, as well as deft handling of all the other myriad influences for truly wonderful listening adventure. Especially appreciate the way they interwove the more eclectic proggy elements (such as odd beats and time signatures, extended instrumental passages, etc) with more mainstream melodic rock and vocal harmonies. It certainly does harken back to the glory days of mid-70's prog, although they also add many more modern touches as well. You mentioned some of the bands with a similar sound on various songs (such as Styx, Jethro Tull, Yes, Steely Dan, etc), but you didn't mention the one band that I think their sound is most reminiscent of, which is Kansas (Prime Kansas, like Masque, Leftoverture, Point of Know Return period), but with vocals similar to Styx. But as you indicated, the style varies throughout with the different songs. Overall, a superb album, certainly one of the very best of the year, and anyone who enjoys classic symphonic prog should be thrilled with this album. Thanks for bringing attention to this album.

Hi Nathan. Dave here. Having bought and enjoyed their last two albums, Detachment and Seven Seas, your excellent review has really whetted my appetite for the new one.

I enjoyed the review of Barock Project!
Agree on the Styx influence & the Lead Singer reminds of Dennis DeYoung!
Sounds like a worthy add to my Library!

3 Great Singles then we get the rest and it's...GREAT! Didn't think I'd like an album better than Detachment but this might be it. Thanks Nathan for the review!

Have listened to it a couple of times now and have really enjoyed it. Also agree with you on two points in that The Lost Ship Tavern is the highlight of the album and that it is definitely up there with their best work, probably equal with Skyline for me.

I have Skyline. It is the only one on vinyl that I could find. Sound a lot like Styx. I wish the new on was on vinyl

Don't like the name, but the album looks pretty cool, but you didn't play any of the music, so I can't say anymore about them, sadly.

It's a very good album. I dont think the final track (Voyagers homecoming) is a continuation of Voyager and I think it's the weakest on the album with its 'Thick as a Brick' chops. I think Morning train is beautiful but is ruined by the second half 'queen' type phrasing and the wild bit.. Dont understand why they did that. They have this habit unfortunately (like the second half of Brain damage on the previous album is a direct copy of a Steven Wilson track off Hand Cannot Erase.) Not a fan of 'Tavern' but Barock Project continue to amaze me by the sheer quality of their playing. This was very ambitious and I think they (just about) pull it off. There are some really strong tracks on there but its weighed down by one or two duds and a dissapointing endpiece.
