love the fake dubbing so much
And the vaselined camera lens!
Btw, the also parodied the original theme music quite well:

I also love Hader's deep voice. Almost all 70s dubbing had voice too deep for the character
What is fake dubbing? Dubbing is fake right?
@@gerhana7149 fake dubbing as in their not translating anything

I love how everyone's voice was dubbed in their OWN voice except for Keenan's

the copy of emmanuel on this is just amazingly perfect, the foggy lens, the color palette, the fake scenes, the voice effects, everything, it truly reminded me to those soft core days, very well done.

@@SuperNuela everything was misty from the mid 70s to early 80s lol

Loved the market scene description. In every Emmanuelle film she would experience local (exotic non-white) rituals that would be filmed as bordering on violent but that would turn her on like nothing else, and usually was followed by sex with a stranger in a random location.
If not for this comment, I wouldn't realise it. Thank you
that fake lip sync was superb
I spent my childhood in France and I remember a lot of ads being this awkward and weird
David McGinness This isn't awkward nor weird. :D

The hell you’re saying I’m from Europe and this ain’t normal
The cutaway to Bill Hader looking over his shoulder and saying "Danielle" is sooo late 80s French TV food commercial. Just replace "Danielle" with "Danone" or "Nescafe"...or maybe even "Drakkar Noir" lol...
Yes! Having spent my 20s in France in the 80’s, just YES to what you said. IIRC, those ads aired throughout the decade. Whoever conceived of this sketch spent time in Europe back then; this can’t be a mere spoof of Emmanuelle; it’s just all too insider info! The BEST.
Mentos!
My childhood in 90s Hungary is also pretty much these sort of ads x''D

The meta joke on the audience is that no one can admit how accurate this is without admitting they've seen too much European softcore porn.
Wait but why did they need children in the film if that was the purpose? I thought this was just one of those foggy independent films that never made any sense.
Spartacus stands up to speak, but random voices instantaneously cry out:
“I am no one!”
“I am no one!”
Spartacus sheds a tear, says nothing.
"Too much" scarcely applies, surely.
@@kenya1067 There were usually kids in films like that to show how "free" the main character was. A scene just like that, basically. Not in a weird way. But yes, this is 100% based on 70's European soft-core movies that would usually show on Cinemax in the 80's and 90's at around 3am, like "Emmanuelle".
Not true. There are alot of Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes that feature similar, not sexual, type movies
This sketch nailed it perfectly. They always did horrible English overdubs back then and the speed was always fast and off. Fred nailed it in this one. Everyone of is those old Emmanuel 1- 11s films were always soft focused lenses, Serge Gainsborough scores and ths key words were always "Sensual " "Climax" and everyone wants everyone else to feel free and experience all the pleasures of the human body. Still cracks me up everytrime. The dawn of Skinamax.

The camera work is truly amazing and underrated. The side shot out of zoom really captures the European tv style.
I would rate it a 17.
This is exactly what popped up late at night on Cinemax in the late 80’s and early 90’s and you were left wondering what the heck you were watching ... basically soft porn with an attempted storyline. My childhood buddy and me used to laugh our butts off at the bad acting / dubs and because it was edited, a quick flash of boobs here and there.
And some of them were entertaining, I remember one where it was time traveling Amazon babes
Oh yes, good ol’ late-night “skin-emax”
I remember we’d watch these at sleepovers and would just die 😂
Besides one’s father’s or older brother’s stash of penthouse or parent’s copy of The Joy of Sex, this was many gen-xer’s and early millennials introduction to erotica 🤣
Edit: couldn’t forget to mention The Joy of Sex book
But why did they need children in their smut? That's very confusing. And disturbing.
@@kenya1067 No, it's not. lol There was sometimes a scene where the main character would goof around with birds or kids in the city, to show how childlike and free she was. Not in a sexual way at all. The fact that your mind went there is what's disturbing, frankly.
@@kenya1067 Its a way of showing that she is not just into sex but also relates to everyone well. My vague recollection is that Emmannuelle was effective in all situations- danger, sex, enjoying life, other cultures, etc.
It also shows how weird it is to Americans that what Americans were watching for porn, because there weren't many options back then, included transitions from food to sex to kids to tourism and back to sex. I would guess that in France, or wherever they came from, the movies were more about showing a liberated and capable heroine.
The genius of Fred Armisen at work...
And Jennifer Lawrence ;) She's great comedic timing, so hilarious and gorgeous.
Ha ha, love how they recreate that blurred effect that gave 70´s soft core porn certain artistic characteristics, making it...damn, I spoke too much.
uhh.. diffuminate?
NameyMD Holy crap, I was maybe drunk when I wrote that, lol...Already corrected mate, thank you!
but it kinda sounds like a proper esoteric word though, á la "diffuminate (adjective) = of, relating to, or suggestive of the characteristics of vintage European softcore cinema" : )
NameyMD Well, in spanish "difuminado" is the word for the painting technique in which you rub the contours of painted images so they appear less defined and blurry. Some softcore movies were filmed like that, so this is a very funny sketch, and the attention to detail is amazing.
Making it... sensual?
Yes, sensual.
*hahahahahaha*
For Americans who don't travel: this is exactly what Europe is like
I mean honestly living in a big city in Europe ain't that different.

This is exactly the kind of European soft-core porn that flooded America's drive-in theaters in the mid-'70s. They got it so right!

Living in Europe and being able to see European French films, and at a beginners level in French, it amazes me how accurate this sketch is! Even the dubbing was like that when I moved here Now they kept the original and put texts under. Except, for some strange reason in Germany. They still dub most content.
That on the opening part is Split, Croatia.
+Juan Miguel Delgado Yes! You're right, glad someone caught on to this. But the third scene (a beach, with a statue of a man is not Split.)

Third I'd Puerto Banús in Marbella, The statue is of Christopher Columbus
This is some weirdly charming quality you don't see everyday on SNL
French movies in the Seventies were overloaded with those pretentious characters, who signalled their free spirit and their sophomoric sensuality in overabundance. Directors like Eric Rohmer and Claude Sautet come to mind. This skit really nails it.
It's a parody of the "Emmanuelle" films. They even used the same title font. lol
