I couldn't watch Messi's penalty. I just thought there was so much pressure on him to score, after that miss in the 2016 final, that he could well miss again. Instead, I went next door, turned on my computer and just looked at the game updates. Was so pleased when he scored, which made watching the rest of the shootout slightly more bearable. Just hope there isn't another in the final, even though Martinez could well be the difference if that did happen.

Also, Brazil is not getting home advantage this time because of the empty stadium. If the game was being played in front of a Brazilian crowd, I would give a slight edge to Brazil. But under the current circumstance, it's a 50-50 game. So, back to the original point- since this Argentina is an improved version and Messi is in great form, and Brazil is not getting any home advantage, this is a very good chance for Argentina to win the final.
At this point, after reaching so many finals, it would be nice for Messi to finally win it, better late than never.
And if he wins this, the momentum will shift to World Cup 2022.

Quick reminder that Messi like a leader has ALWAYS taken the first penalty in the shoot-out. He doesn’t wait for his teammates to go up so he can try to steal the spotlight at the end. Messi has won FIFA WORLD CUP U-20 and also Olympics Gold Medal for Argentina.
Interesting note, Ronaldo was subbed off early in "his" Euro title and never won the Olympic gold. Neymar has an Olympic gold (as one of the allowed older players) but doesn't have a Copa America (he was injured in 2019 and didn't play).
For me, Messi didn't need this title. Only those who look at superficial awards were saying he needed it. Winning the world cup now is so much different with 32 teams (soon to be 48) than when teams won it with 16. Heck Pele brags about 3 titles but really he was a key factor in 1 of those and the other 2 he brags about he wasn't even the best player or was injured for the majority of the tourney.

Objectively speaking, In all international tournaments that Argentina has come short, Messi was quite clearly Argentina best player and had consistently put them in position to win. Its not about whether Messi is ready, its about if Argentina is ready. Will they finally not shy from the occasion and perhaps take the burden off of Messi from continuing putting on super human display and take him to the promise land? Messi has been quite clearly the best player in this tournament, that includes Neymar player incredibly well, but Neymar has a far better coach, structured team and solid defense to support him. I fear that Messi and Argentina will lose this game, my heart cant take seeing him losing another final.

To lose to their biggest rivals in the stadium that is their national pride is not something Brazilians will take lightly and so you can be sure shit’s gonna get out of hand for the players and coaches if they lose. They’ll be prepared.

Neither Brazil nor Argentina really proved themselves to be exceptionally better than the other this tournament. Both have their flaw, and both are capable of winning it so I’d say they are “good” enough to win it against the level of competition they’re facing in the final.

Portugal has never won a trophy before. Until 2016 it's always been Ronaldo to drag them to play in the tournament. They have only qualified three time for euros before Cr7. Since CR7 thay have qualified for every tournament.

@@MB-yn8mv I think for South Americans, like myself, we see it slightly differently. The amount of nations and the level isn’t Euros level, but the competition is so fun to watch. The South American style of playing is aggressive and it’s almost like every team has a personal rivalry with the other. Idk, for neutral the Euros is more enticing, but the copa has definitely been just as interesting for me
