Spike Lee stated when he saw this "greatness" on the screen, he knew immediately he wanted to be a part of the Arts
His integrity came through even in his acting. There will never be another Sidney Poitier. God bless his soul.
In the time that Sidney Poitier was working in movies, is what made him peerless as an actor/director. Growing up watching his films was nothing short of inspirational and jaw-dropping.
It was so sad when he died; this man was such a beacon for so many and such a wonderful actor. He definitely broke barriers and what an elegant man! Loved him. (from Sandi)
Sidney was the first actor I fell in love with. He was so amazing on screen. I was so proud of the Actor he was. He made me proud to be of African descent. I grieved for him as a family member or close friend would have. My condolences to his family.
In the 1980s, when I was working at Columbia Pictures, Mr. Poitier had an office on the lot. We would pass one another often going our separate ways. You have NEVER been smiled at until you have been smiled at by Sidney Poitier. It was a big, warm, kind and genuine smile. I treasure it always.
Hello there Stephanie👋
Wow that's incredible. Thank you for sharing.
Quite simply one of the greatest to ever grace the screen, greatly missed but what a light .
Hello there Maggie👋
As Mr Poitier was from the Catibbean we are proud of what he has achieved. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
"It's always a challenge when you're carrying other people's dream"... I personally felt that. It explains a lot I didn't understand then but I get now with my own kid.
He was an incredible man and actor. I've seen all his movies more than once. RIP 🙏🏽♥️🌹🕊️
Sidney Poitier lesson was THAT DIGNITY has nothing to do with the color of your SKIN 🖤
When I was little I watched old movies with my parents. "Guess who's coming to dinner" was one of my favorite movies. He is a legend and will be missed.
I love that slap scene! I could watch it forever!
A real gentleman.. a wonderful role model for men everywhere ✨️
How is he a role model - this I don't agree
@@onelevel2346 Excuse me! He showed us here in the Caribbean that we can achieve greatness. As a black man he showed that we don't have to accept demeaning roles in Hollywood. Didnt you hear that he refused the role of 750.00 per week because of that storyline when he was only working for 75.00 per week? I think you should revisit this interview. You obviously was not paying attention.
This gentleman was A VERY GREAT ACTOR and I very much enjoyed his role in to SIR WITH LOVE!
Hey there Paula👋
Oh man, how I loved Mr. Poitier! ❤️❤️❤️
I named my youngest son after him, and oh how glad I am that I did. His film legacy will last forever, and he had integrity to pass on to others. What a gift God gave to us who are fans, and also to those who are not. The mindset to pick and choose roles that reveal his truth: Priceless. 🕊️💔
Rest In Peace, Mr. Sidney Poitier... 🕊️❤️❤️😘💋❤️❤️
I can remember as a young white girl seeing Guess Whose Coming to Dinner, and feeling so deeply moved with compassion and hope for a world which at that time seemed to be drawing lines between races and cultures. Plus I loved his voice, so smooth like butter. Thank you to Oprah et. al. who will bring this angel back to earth again for our edification and pleasure.
He was such great man and actor
Always have Loved Sidney Poitier even as a child I would stay up late if one of his movies was on tv
Hello Debra👋
Definitely! My mother loved him too and we watched everything he was in. (from Sandi)
Sidney was and is a powerful role model in my life. He shook me to my core and I'm a better human being because of his example.
I have watched all of his movies what a great actor 😢
A national treasure!
This segment was simply wonderful.Queen O stated that she gets that she carries other people dreams on her shoulders.Mr. Poitiers life is truly extranodary and legacy to respect and be proud of. Thanks for showing us what extraordinary is in America. Goddess Gayle your show is so profoundly Mind-blowing and informative to viewers all over the world. Dr.Dixon
🤣🤣🤣🤡
Wow. And here I was thinking that I was the only one that ran around calling him my boyfriend!!! I miss his presence and inspirational career!! Great job, Oprah!!
Looking forward to seeing this documentary of Mr. Poitier
Beautiful man and wonderful actor.
I love Sidney. Such a huge heart and a huge talent
An exceptional moving tribute to a wonderful human being!
How is he wonderful? Did you know him. What did he do for his people
Love his work when I saw A Raisin In The Sun one of my favorite plays I bought the same book twice
Wrong title for this video, but amazing actor who deserves to be fully celebrated
Loved this man from the moment i saw him in Raisin in the sun…😢
More than just an actor, a true genius and humanitarian.
I’m 60, and to watch him as I grow up in all the wonderful movies he did, is a honor. He blessed soooo many of us who barley saw someone who look like us play rolls that mostly went to white people. He, gave, us, hope! He was and is a true icon. Peace and Blessing to all. I Love U Sidney. I Love U All.
The impeccable Sidney Poitier.....
One of the greatest. Miss you, Sidney. 😞🙏💚
He was a regular at my former place of employment. He was a class act and I was so sad when he passed away.
Pamela looks just like her Dad. Mr. Poitier was an awesome actor.
Yes she does. And it’s wonderful to see her face.
Sidney was the man. So talented, such elegance and grace.
My mother told me so much about him , it was like I actually knew him.
Beautiful human being. Thank You.
Amazing 🤩 Many Thanks for sharing this excellent documentary 🏆
Wow, Super Awesome Story and Life.
Hello there Linda👋
I’m not crying. 😭
The slap that was heard around the world
Hello there Angela👋
Yes that slap was WELL done!
Beautiful Interview very Warm and Classy!
I think I cried a lot through To Sir with Love and even wrote a letter to him. ❤
💯💕 Mr . Poitier’s his life speaks his movies love and always teaching us do better
To sirwithlove one of my all time favorite movies
"Those school-girl days of telling tells and biting nails are gone." sigh...."But how do you thank someone who's taken you from crayons to perfume."
Amazing 🙏🏽
Thank you for sharing. He was a great man!!!!
Gayle King has not an ounce of shine when compared to the gracious glow of love of these magnificent daughters.
And did Oprah lie about her feelings for Maya Angelou, or is it more platitudes falling from her mouth that she perceives as wisdom when she speaks of Sir Sidney Poitier. Thank you the Sisters Poitier for your loving memories of fact, of a dear man beloved by so many. A life well lived, a memory treasured. A man blessed beyond imaging by a family whom he loved, above celerity and who loved in return. Rest in Peace Sir Sidney.
He impacted my family, I am white and I didn't know any one black. I knew he was just like me in all the ways that mattered so he became a man that made my family laugh and we watched Lillies of the field and it has been my childhood favorite.
Such a great interview.
Lady O and Gayle look amazing to be in their late 60,s
Oh i cant wait... ❤❤❤
Hello Geraldine👋
So looking forward to this film on Mr. Poitier.
Always a challenge when your carrying other people's dreams. That's what happened to Michael and Whitney. Too heavy a burden. Even with family.
The line I would've written for the Dad to counter Sidney's character. In America they will always see you as a coloured man. Rest in Power Sidney. You did well.
A life well lived and a life that did well for others.
When I heard how old he was? I was so happy. 🎉 He made it
This segment brought tears to my eyes. Beautiful piece.
He is Royalty ⭐🎥🔥🌹✨ 🙏
Yes. Well deserved illumination of an extraordinary man.
Before Denzel Washington there was Sidney Poitier.
The greatest "SIR" to ever grace the planet 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
beautiful sisters❤
AMAZING
8:58 - 9:00 Just curious Oprah, what about Maya Angelou?
He's an icon
This is such a beautiful tribute to an apparently beautiful guy
I love to the movie Brother John, another great movie was Mr. Dearborn.
Wrong title for this video. It’s on Sidney Poitier
I would like to watch this and hear about Mr Poitier and even catch a glimpse of his daughters. But I can not because Oprah is involved. Maybe someday his daughters will do another piece that is solely produced by the family or with someone else. After what Oprah tried with Michael Jackson and his family after his passing, I made a vow that I would never set eyes upon her or ever listen to the sound of her voice ever again. When she leaves this earth, it will be a great day for humanity. Rest in Peace Mr Poitier. You were a once in a lifetime brilliant light ✨🌟💙🙏🏽
This looks rly good
notice how it turns into all about Oprah
No comment. Time will tell the story and let us know his true impact
Which is the best book read about Mr. Poitier?
"THE MEASURE OF A MAN" It's also in audio. It was on youtube, wondering if it's still there.
HE WAS A HANDSOME MAN....AMAZING ACTOR ...NICE VOICE
🇧🇸🇧🇸STAND UP 🇧🇸🇧🇸
It would be nice if presenters could pronounce his (French) name correctly
A model for a black man, gentle, clever, deeply rooted in his own history, and corageous to break barriers. A Beautiful Life.
I read his story
Sir Sidney...RIP
💖
Hello there👋
Having color is BEAUTIFUL.
Underrated King NUFFSAID
Its too bad diane carroll isn’t still with us to chime in on his character. Who people are in movies is one thing. Their character in real life is sometimes something else.
Was Mister Poitier ever honored by the Kennedy Center of the Performing Arts
"Amazing moment in History"
The brave women of Iran are sacrificing their lives on the streets against oppression and justice. Please be our voice. #MahsaAmini
When you feel no one is listening you throw it out there. God bless.
rip Sidney
Never thought about all the holidays one goes through without their parents and the emptiness one most likely feels on every holiday, birthday, ....
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Sidney's daughter Sidney looks like her dad more except she's the light skin Sidney...📌
Oprah's hair is beautiful 💜
My mom was born in February 1927. February 28, 1927
When I was little I saw Mr. Portier's slap. SO0o satisfying.
Not till I was older did I realize how ground breaking that was.
Oprah grows more and more gorgeous with age. She has the most stunning hair. Sidney is absolutely incandescent 🙌🏾✨🙏🏾
Tell it. That is all of her hair too.
Amen. Amen. A-men, amen, amen. ❤️🌹
This here is Obama one.... just awesome class dignified
