    It is interesting to see how Tillman warms up to the interviewer throughout. He didn't give him much of a chance in the beginning. You can kind of see the trust/respect being built.

      I saw that too, FJM was much more open to talk towards the interview progressed. I think Jon is a great interviewer and really takes the time to get to know the artist and music. I love how he closed it off too, such a class act.

    I love how he's so intelligent and intense the interviewer (and probably many people) don't really know how to respond to him but he keeps the conversation light enough with humour

    I really love Josh Tillman's music and conversation. I had the priviidge of seeing him perform in Pomona, CA recently. Of course Father John Misty was GREAT live, but he made the night extra cool by being wonderful enough to hang out after the show long enough to take photos with a handful of fans (even with dorks like me!). I really appreciated the extra kindness. That, mixed with Father John Misty's aural radness is why I'm now a faithful follower. Much respect. (Thanks again, Josh. :) )

    There's something just a little bit scary about this man's mind, and I suppose that's why he feels so zeitgeisty as an artist. He reflects the terrifying psychological complexity of just being a person and trying to have relationships in our confusing and contradictory era

  • @damageincorporated5537

    I love this man. His music just makes me think so deeply about mortality and overcoming the fear of dying. Despite how fragile we are, we should not let fears motivate what we do in our lives. It is the pursuit of love and growth that should drive us. Living. Reproducing. Exploring.

    • @jdemocrat
      @jdemocrat Před 9 lety +12

      My specialty is working with highly-capable (gifted/high IQ) children. You are spot on in your assumption. He is most definitely a gifted individual, both intellectually and artistically.

    • @nitetimerxdio2762
      @nitetimerxdio2762 Před 7 lety +10

      Maybe he's just really high

    • @HotshotGTar
      @HotshotGTar Před 7 lety +3

      Maybe we all are !
      I don't see how anybody can make assumptions about this guys IQ from this interview, or from the songs he writes and performs......etc,.....you'd just be trippin' on this guy. Granted; he's cool enough but I think he'd even object to being categorized and 'super-humanized'.
      Also; equating song writing gifts w/ IQ may be just mistaken. Some of the best songs and music I've ever heard came from some really stupid folks. The genius is in the realization of the gift (a high IQ may actually be a hindrance to good song writing. Nothing screws up song writing quicker than letting a lot of intellect get in the way). I'd say that may be especially true for this guy who seems to be all about the intensity and quality of the emotion.
      The best songs write themselves (as was suggested by Dylan, Lennon, and others).....you are just grateful that you were there to pick them up out of the creative ethers. It's probably more about imagination and the temporary suspension of intellect than anything else.

    • @austinmistretta8373
      @austinmistretta8373 Před 7 lety +4

      He certainly seems to think so too

    • @kuro2797
      @kuro2797 Před 7 lety

      You may be right to some degree that songwriting may not be the best way of judging someone's IQ. Then again, the best songs you describe and the assumed lower intellect of their composers are your own conjectures. I think that layers of thought and astuteness in picking up your own flaws is something that's not seen in supposedly "less intellectual" art(or speech for that matter). The beauty of that type of art is there in it's purity and how full of life it is. Someone who might be gifted - or burdened - with a higher intellect will naturally form patterns of though which pile up on itself even on the basis of their personality. This will naturally manifest in their speech, their speculations about the world and themselves which would come out in more complex songwriting, which, as simply as it tries to portray it, Tillman's songs are. So isn't that what an IQ test tries to assess in a more fundamental way? In the end though, I've no psychological training so all I'm saying are just spit balled thoughts. Anyhow, thought I'd throw my 2 cents in. Peace.
