    I've had that Ikinari Steak in Tokyo Yaesu underground mall back in 2019. Only discovered it in a game. I ordered the steak with side of veggies and rice as well. It was Friday night and that restaurant in Tokyo was jampacked.
    That time I thought I could order the steak right away as the chef already knew what I wanted but I asked for an extra sides plus the main meal, he got confused, luckily there were english-speaking employees who just got off from their office and offered their assistance as translators and eventually, they were able to relay my additional order to the chef and in just few mins, I got my order.
    Those gentlemen are really friendly and helpful, it made our rainy friday night memorable.

    they opened up a really successsful restaurant in new york, then got overambitious and expanded to 11 different ones in the city and and one by one they all closed and now theres just no ikinari at all in new york (permanently closed for pandemic and never reopened), i miss them

    • @ChristopherCricketWallace
      @ChristopherCricketWallace Před 2 lety +22

      Ikinari is a 6 out of 10 by American ideals. This style of steak house would not work in NYC. Not in most of the country, actually. It just doesn't match with American tastes. It's good, though. Just not a good match for the US

    • @Parasprites
      @Parasprites Před 2 lety +7

      @@ChristopherCricketWallace i agree, most people weren't kind to the standing tables when they first opened plus steak isn't something people see as a casual thing to eat in america but rather something you go to a steakhouse and get table service at, though i will still miss the stuff he features in this video regardless

    • @jeuno.
      @jeuno. Před 2 lety +3

      @@ChristopherCricketWallace I also definitely do agree, it is definitely a good concept although it wouldn't and probably didn't exactly work well in the US because of the perception that steak is something that is not meant to be eaten casually. Hopefully they might reopen in the US with a more suitable strategy while making good quality steak still affordable and quick!

    • @epvendetta
      @epvendetta Před 2 lety +1

      @@notrowlet well, I know what you mean. But Japanese cows get pretty amazing treatment while they’re alive, and the resulting meat has the fat evenly dispersed so it’s juicier than meat from most other countries. (That said, most Japanese people are perfectly happy to eat Australian beef or whatever, since it’s cheaper.)

      I used to eat all-you-can-eat yakiniku beef in Japan every weekend, for 5 years straight. Cheap AF and it's usually Australian beef. After a few beers it's still a darn good night.

      It's also super messy. You need super high heat to cook a steak, so you'll definitely smoke up your kitchen, not to mention all the grease that'll be flying everywhere. Sometimes it's nice to go somewhere and have someone cook it for you in a kitchen that can handle the mess, even if you have to pay a bit extra.
