When Avs have Makar and Girard, shipping out Byram to get an upgrade at center with Mittlestadt is a good move. Then, shipping out Jahannson and getting Walker on defense is an even better move. Avs looked even more dangerous now!

@@richy2258I'm an Avs fan, too and I couldn't disagree more with you. With these two trades, we got better at forward and at defense. Mittlestadt is LEAGUES better than RyJo. Walker has been outplaying Byrum this season on an inferior team. With these two trades....the Avs are MUCH better today than they were yesterday. Byrum may have the most upside of any of these players...but that's all it is right now, upside. He MAY turn out to be great, but we haven't seen enough of that to make him indispensable. That's not even factoring in his concussion and injury issues. I love Bo....but the return was excellent. Put these two trades together and they compliment each other excellently. What a 48 hrs in Colorado sports! Avs crush Detroit,& I just got back from working the Nuggets win over the Celtics. Throw in Colorado with a huge road win at Oregon to make more solid a potential NCAA tourney bid. Avs,& Nugs both 25-6 at home. Combined 50-12-0...not too bad-lol. Doubt any city can match that...or our chances to have both the NHL,& NBA Finals in June-especially after what we just did off the ice. Granted alot would have to go right for both teams to make the Finals-but our chances just went up significantly-last 2 days.Id still like to see a veteran #2 or even #3 goalie-but if they do nothing else Im ecstatic. We had 1 major gaping hole at 2c,& thats solved-went from bad to good there.
Hate to see Bo go,& I believe he will be a star in Buffalo in the next few yrs-so I see a win for both teams.Sabres can afford to be patient with the still in rebuild stage they are at-Avs gotta go for it now.Took from our greatest strength-what might have been the deepest blueline in the nhl-& fixed our greatest need. Then replaced the hole of Byrum-with Walker whos ptobably a bit more consistent,& better overall today than Bo,& a better fit to play a bottom 4 role on a contender TODAY.Granted nowhere near the longterm upside of Bo-the 29yr old is what he is-22yr old Byrum has plenty of room to grow-which is why Buffalo should end up winning in this trade also.
But that left us with no major weaknesses but 1 minor weakness...4th line depth.Kovalenko could be here soon from Russia if his team loses in the playoffs,& Landy would be 1 unbelievable cherry on top. But Trennin,& Duhaime fill an obvious size,& bottom 6 depth minor need. Also thrilled Guentzel went to Carolina-cuz it means he didn't go to Vegas,Vancouver,Edmonton,LA,or especially Dallas. Cant imagine WPG was really ever in the hunt for him anyways-but anywhere East is perfect.
Even if they do nothing else today & all I could MAYBE see is some type of goalie before the deadline-this still was the best 48 hrs or so in Colorado sports history since...June of 2023 at the Nuggets parade...tied with June of 2022 at the Avalanche parade. Simultaneous parades in June of 2024 sure would be sweet. But yes we are damn spoiled. Its our reward for having to also put up with the Rockies,& Broncos-who both have been the opposite of the Nugs,& Avs for quite awhile now.

Mitts had been improving after a humdrum first five seasons, became a pretty good playmaker.
Byram will be just 23 in June, seems pretty reliable, has some offense, some physicality. Will be an upgrade over Bryson, Clague, Stillman, likely Jokiharju (a RH shot) and is further along than Power.
Byram’s cap-hit is larger but Mitts’ current deal is done after the season, and he was due for a sizable increase. I’m OK with this trade, as room needed to be made for Kulich, Rosen, others.

im kind of mixed on the trade with buffalo. bo has the potential to be a top pairing guy, it sucks to lose him. but mittelstadt is basically exactly what the avs need, which is a solid 2c. plus he is an rfa which is nice. not sure if walker is gonna be anything more than a rental.
ryjo seems like a solid guy but the performance on the ice just wasn't there. the avs are right in the middle of their cup window, they cant afford to have a 4m guy who inst pulling his weight. I think if the flyers retain another 50% on him they can probably get something back for it. he is still solid on the draw and can potentially pot 20 goals 40 points which isn't nothing.

Byram is definitely a promising young player, but we had a logjam on the left side of our defense. One of Toews, Girard, or Byram had to play on the bottom pair, which is kind of a waste of potential for any of them.
I think the contract certainty of Girard won out over Byram in the end. G is signed at a fair deal long term, and Byram was coming up as an RFA soon. I'm glad we were able to get good value in a hockey trade for Byram.
I wish Byram all the best of luck in the rest of his career, and I will continue to cheer for him wherever he goes. Too bad he couldn't stay but it was the correct call IMO.
